Looked inside the box of my LEGO The Mighty Bowser set to see what I've gotten myself into before I start. The instruction manual is over 300 pages long (includes a cool history of Bowser section).

Thankfully a great thing they did was sorting the 2,807 pieces into 22 numbered bags to make the process less of a pain.

with Sakurai being semi-retired, I wonder how long he’ll be involved in game development. I could easily see him strictly being a director and presenter leading tons of people to build the game up (instead of having to put himself through more wear and tear like he did with going from Kid Icarus Uprising to Smash Ultimate)

When I was younger, it took me forever before I realized the books were numbered lol. Always been a handy feature of lego.

I also love the recent guidebooks for sets modeled after iconic places or scenes/objects from different properties. Their timelines being discussed and learning the thought that went into the build process. Really makes each set come together nicely.

Had a surprise party waiting for me at home. Not all of my friends came but it was still a great time.

With both this and the progress made with my crush today I'd say this is the best birthday I've had in years
OOOH HAPPY BIRTHDAY BESTIE (probably like twelve minutes late in your timezone tho :/)

Man I can't believe after all these years of seeing it as a pipe dream, I might actually have a chance of getting a date with a cute girl

I might be getting my hopes up too high but it's all going so smoothly so far

Everyone knows the days after Christmas are a lawless land when it comes to time actually. Glad you had such a nice day though!

Before I send it off back to Amazon to replace it with the correct version I just wanna show off that my parents somehow accidentally ordered the Italian version of Pokémon Scarlet for my Christmas gift. We're American btw. idk how a mistake this specific even happens...

If I had a nickel for every time a Nintendo game released in 2022 introduced a trio comprised of three performers, two of them being humanoid with one being calm and collected and the other being more flashy, and the third being just a big animal guy, I’d have two nickels.

Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Alright I said I'd judge this roster and man oh man do I have things to say
-First things first, the Sonic representation feels kind of excessive? Big and the Avatar really don't feel like they need to be there. I get why you'd want a Mii equivalent, but I don't think this hypothetical game needs to mirror Smash in every single way

-Alright, I'll just get this one out of the way: I truly do not get why people still insist on Billy Hatcher in the year of our lord in 2022. People always treat him like this iconic A-list SEGA character when he's actually, like, extremely unimportant in the grand scheme of SEGA history. People looooove to bring up his crossover appearances but he hasn't really shown up in anything for some time now, and even when he did show up it was like 99% Sonic Team and western-made stuff. Also, I have it on good authority from big SEGA community members I know that he only ever showed up in stuff to begin with cause the director requested it and he was easier to use than older SEGA characters who didn't have 3D models. There was never any genuine reverence there, it was always entirely artificial and circumstance based. In fact, from what I've seen, most of the people screaming for him to come back are mainly Sonic fans, most of the actual SEGA diehards I know either don't care for him or actively dislike him. He's kind of a joke among the more knowledgeable SEGA people. Then why would we include him in a game that's meant to appeal to SEGA fans? It makes no sense. It's like if there was a subset of really loud Mega Man fans who were convinced that Spyborgs was a must-have for any Capcom vs. roster. Billy never meant anything in the larger scope of SEGA's library and the fact that he's more remembered by the general public than a ton of other better SEGA stuff is genuinely insulting. As a cameo or collectible? Sure. As an assist? Fine. As a stage? Bit of a stretch but I think you could make a case. As a playable character? Absolutely not. We need to stop with this **** cause it is genuinely frustrating at this point to see people go "ah yes iconic sega character billy hatcher!" and put him in every roster and fanart piece and such and such. People basically ate up an artificial attempt to shove an extremely minor SEGA character down their throats and now he's all over the place while stuff like Phantasy Star struggles to be recognized at all. I am so done. ALRIGHT NOW ONTO THE OTHER STUFF

-Chaz isn't a terribly interesting second pick for classic PS. How about Nei or Rika?

-Similarly, Amitie is a bit of a boring second Puyo choice when characters like Satan and Draco are right there

-I'm also kinda done with people constantly putting the likes of Ristar, Vectorman and Sketch. Ristar still gets some small bits of acknowledgement from time to time, and he is a fun character from a fun game, so he's not really a truly bad pick, but I personally find him very hard to prioritize and am also kinda baffled when people treat him like this SEGA icon. Fun dude, I think there's absolutely an argument to be made for some content from his game, but not exactly all he's cracked up to be. Sketch is a major stretch, but again I do think you could make a case for a bit of Comix Zone content seeing as it's one of the very few western IP SoJ actually acknowledge. Vectorman makes extremely little sense. Dude's from a super minor SEGA property that has practically never ever ever been acknowledged. I guess you could want a more Western-appealing character but then like....why not add a character from one of the western PC franchises, which are like way more important? Or Ecco, a western MD character from a much more well-regarded series who actually has been acknowledged before?

-Gunstars based

-I'm also extremely done with people putting Welkin as the first VC rep in their rosters when Alicia is right there and makes so much more sense. Welkin is technically the main protag but Alicia is the one who actually gets out there and fights, and she's the one who SEGA puts in stuff and she's the one that shows up in popularity polls and such, she's a much better pick on all fronts. Selvaria's good tho

-Just putting in all three modern Persona protags in is really lame to be honest. Why not replace the P3 protag with Aigis for example?

-Why are there so many guests? There's already a lot of them as playable but then it reaches insane heights with the assists. This is a SEGA fighting game, girl. I'd say like one is fine but this is seriously excessive. Why is one of the guest assists Boogerman

-Why is Shining Force only represented by an assist? That series should be an absolute slam dunk for a playable spot, tons of games, tons of characters, very popular and successful, it's bizarre to me that it only gets an assist while Billy Hatcher and Vectorman snag full playable spots.

-Some of these assists I'd really rather see playable. Like, I'd much rather see someone like Temjin or Rent A Hero be playable over the aforementioned more questionable picks. Eternal Champions and Bug! are also two of the most absolute bottom-of-the-barrel picks you could possibly go for
Okay that is all

Yes.

It aged bad in some areas (mainly Roshi) but beyond that it's still a fun time (though some arcs do drag a little bit).

Better than Z imo.
idk whether to agree due to the Buu saga or disagree due to everything else before that

tho Roshi is someone who will never age well despite being a badass

Imo Z had higher highs but OG had better consistency. And Z's lows are worse than anything from OG DB.

I also enjoyed the better sense of adventure the OG series had, imo that was lacking in Z after Namek. Kid Goku too, love that little dude.

Sandwich making is weird in Pokemon.

Sometimes, half of everything drops off and nothing happens. Then other times a single cherry tomato rolls off and ****s up your recipe.

EDIT: This time, the ingredients stayed on but the top bun fell off and it worked fine.

They're all classic Genesis games that lots of people in the west remember very fondly and would love to see in the game. I definitely had a bit of a Genesis bias in my selection. I thought about adding Ecco but he has no legs. So he gets a stage. I would like to know what you mean by "more important western PC franchises" though.

Those franchises are ones I think of when I think of SEGA and the Genesis. I originally had more to represent the iconic third party games on Saturn and Dreamcast but they ended up getting cut. Goku as a child was as innocent as he could ever be
From what I recall, and correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Roshi get constantly punished for his actions?
he got punished a lot, but never learns to stop being horny
The first joke about Roshi's antics was at Bulma's expense... and so was the second time :yoshi:
tbf, Bulma probably should’ve either checked what she had on before leaving…or learn to always wear undergarments…or she could’ve just attempted to rob him. She unintentionally became at fault for him hunting after her constantly

first things first sorry for the Billiam rant

-If you still want a rep from the fourth PS game, then Rika's an easy pick. Very distinct from Alis, represents an important race in the PS lore and is kind of the successor to Nei who's super popular

-I think the Ristar/Vectorman/etc deal kinda just comes down to a difference in perspective. IMO they're kinda small potatoes compared to other Mega Drive games I'd consider to be much more classic (Streets of Rage, Phantasy Star, Shining Force, the Treasure games, et al), much less the whole of SEGA's library, but I get it. For the record I'd probably put at least some Ristar content in if I did my own take, just maybe not a playable spot. By the way, I think Ecco can work, he has a lot of powers in his games that could make him an interesting fighter and you can just make him, like, float

-I think if you're gonna keep the amount of guests, definitely spread the love a bit more across consoles and try to look into franchises that SEGA have affiliated with before or made games for. Miku's a great pick, definitely the one I'd keep if I added just one guest.

-Shining has some pretty interesting characters beyond just the swordsmen. The classic games have centaurs, a robot, a rat person, a dark sorcerer lady, etc. The modern games have a thief catgirl, an elf magician, a literal guitar wizard, etc

-I think 1 for Shining is fine. By the way, if you happen to want more unrepresented series in your roster, three characters I think would be great to have are Bruno Delinger from Dynamite Deka, Cenes Crawford from Thunder Force V and a class from the 7th Dragon games
