In terms of tropes, I have a knack for friends to lovers, and enemies to lovers. Also like the whole sappy thing that's between the characters that clearly like each other. However, I can not stand when they drag it out for far too long, as well as godawful relationship drama.

I'm gonna use Regular Show as an example here, I loved Rigby and Eileen's relationship of Rigby becoming soft and then falling for Eileen (which you can see progress through the series). It was nice, the whole one-sided relationship apathetic-man to loverboy is something I enjoyed. I can't stand Mordecai and whatever girl he was with. That dude was a full on loser and kid me who wanted Mordecai to get with Margaret so bad ended up hating the relationship by the end of it cause, again, Mordecai stunk (and tbh so did Margaret at times).

It definitely started feeling more like fun banter later on like in Johto and Misty's future appearances. Character development! To my memory though, earlier episodes could get NASTY.

Like, Misty did NOT take it well whenever Ash's less-than-stellar sense of direction got the trio lost. I feel for Brock in these moments, the poor guy has to deal with two people who would be ready to kill each other if Misty insulted Caterpie one more time (this isn't related but Misty could be outright MEAN to Caterpie at times, big siding with Ash there)

To be fair though, Misty's bite is something VERY unique to the earlier seasons, and the breezier later seasons generally lack that when Team Rocket isn't in the picture (May turns into Slay very quickly when Team Rocket steals her damn food). Then again TPC did try a more banter-y female companion later in BW, but...

In all seriousness yeah, Iris' schtick could get old and Misty could at least mix up her banter.

Idk what I want in romancw in my stories, something genuinely sweet and endearing making me root for the couple to kiss like Momo and Okarun in Dandadan is great, I like how Utena and Anthy from Revolutiinary Girl Utena slowly become friends and more than that while there's a fair bit of angsting at the end until they kiss in the movie, but also the inherent sexual tension of 2 dudes who hate each other beating the **** out of one another is also great

Like relationship drama done well can be immaculate, but if you mess it up, drag it out too long, make characters unsympathetic, etc...then you end up with this

Romance is something I don't really fully understand tbh.

Like. What's the real difference between having a girlfriend and having a super-duper mega best friend? Why does gender matter so much in it? Why is [redacted] so often treated like such an important part of it in adults? Why do people have to treat romantic relationships as so much more important than almost all other types? It's always been so weird to me.

These are all rhetorical questions, chances are I've thought about all of these things harder then almost everyone else here so I'm not really looking forward to people's answers (not today at least). I'm just trying to express how bizarre romance can seem to someone who's a total outsider to it.

So what types of romantic tropes I like is a weird question to answer. I guess it's the same tropes I like to see in platonic relationships? In which case yeah I think tsunderes can be fun if done well. Sometimes friends like to playfully bully each other in real life and sometimes they do it because they don't really know or feel comfortable expressing genuine affection. But friends to lovers is something I have pretty mixed feelings on for a lot of reasons, so I guess like a lot of things it really depends on how it's done.

As for Ash and Misty, I read them as friends most of the time except when the show goes really out of its way to make you ship them. So while I do really love their dynamic I'm not exactly a Pokeshipper.

Been a while since I felt confident waving my aromantic flag around, my gender crisis made me have to reexamine a lot of those feelings all over again.

I watched YuYu Hakusho last year. It's become my favorite anime and Yusuke is my favorite Shonen protagonist.
