Hatsune Miku

and I like a lot of cool/cute characters in general so I’m not completely sure about specifics.

In general, I guess they just need to be cute, cool, or both, and memorable, with a good personality of some sort. They can also be funny in someway whether in their design or through their personality, whether good or evil. I don’t mind blank slates you can interpret yourself though (I really like Steve and Miku is sort of like that too since her company lets people interpret her however they want, though there’s more official material one can work with for her if they want while Steve has little tbh).

A whole bunch of examples:
-Miku again

-other voice synth characters (like Kagamine Rin & Len or Kasane Teto)

-Minecraft (I like blocky, low poly, and pixel styles, and Steve is my 2nd favorite character after Miku. Of course, Minecraft is also my favorite game :p)

-Beeg hats (Marisa Kirisame with her witch hat and outfit (she can also shoot beeg laser), or Minecraft Rana with her frog hat)

-Most Mario and related characters

-Kirby and maybe just about all Kirby characters in general

-Pikmin and their captains + enemies like bulborbs

-Banjo-Kazooie

-EarthBound / Mother characters

-Undertale and Deltarune

-Digital Circus

-Very many Pokémon (Pikachu, Celebi, and Gengar are my top 3) + trainers

-Konata Izumi from Lucky Star

-Osaka and Chiyo from Azumanga Daioh

-Nichijou: My Ordinary Life’s main characters

-A lot of Touhou characters (such as Reimu, Marisa, Cirno, Rumia, Koishi, Mima, Yumemi, Chiyuri, and the Scarlet sisters)

-Spooky or spooky-feeling characters (Jack Skellington, Herobrine, Gaster, FNaF’s animatronics and puppet, ghosts like King Boo)

-Cool and cute robots (Miku again (she was originally an android and sometimes still is at least in fanworks), Jenny Wakeman, Chibi-Robo, R2-D2, C-3PO)

-cool big reptilian dudes (Bowser, Godzilla, dinosaurs and dragons)

-Gawr Gura (cute shark girl)

-SpongeBob, Phineas & Ferb, Dr. Doofenshmirtz, Doraemon, Hamtaro, Adventure Time Finn & Jake, a bunch of other cartoon/anime characters
Counter point to Miku
Kaito
Simple and sweet and right to the point

What, to you, makes a good character design?
People think the more detailed the better, but truth be told, it's the basics that stand the test of time. If you wanna go detailed, make sure the base design fits the type of personality the character has in mind. In addition, make sure it's pratical for the enviroment you have in mind. Lastly, make sure it doesn't look ridiculous.

Honestly the spectrum is too varied to have a definitive answer as you can have simplistic designs like say, Kirby and Sonic work real well but also stuff like Gundramon or Kamen Rider Evol which is a hell of a lot more complex that make me go "Goddamn that looks sick". You can get smart character details like how Kamen Rider has visible tear ducts in the OG suit design that represents the tragedy of having to fight the victims who got brainwashed by nazis to kill, Angela from Silent Hill 2 having an incredibly normal looking face with no makeup and with her not revealing any skin because of wjat happened to her making her distrust men or Bayonetta looking like that because sje.knows how she looks and being proud of it, but you can also get stuff like character contrast how Tales of Berseria's female party members with Eleanor having a much more modest design compared to Velvet or Magilou which adds up as she's a bit of a prude whereas the latter two aren't.

What, to you, makes a good character design?
There’s a lot of factors.
-Feels distinct and can easily recognize it even among similar designs or from a silhouette
-How well it suits a character’s personality and background
-How it ties into the world around said character
-Glasses
-How readable it is
-And how well it belongs into the medium/story it’s a part of

I like Kaito too (along with others I didn’t mention, including Luka and Meiko), but idk if he’s simpler than Miku besides maybe the short hair. Miku is also very sweet in my opinion :>
I dont really like miku so I already have a bias lol

What, to you, makes a good character design?
General Answer: Simplistic design, but with a slight twist (outfit/facial expressions/pose/art style)
Devil's Advocate Answer: Also marketing

I forget the name of it, but I know there was a meme a few weeks ago going around about "Generic Character, but if you add this, it becomes this Character," and I think that's surprisingly true. Ex. Generic Blonde Woman, but then you put on the black/yellow hair clips, it's suddenly Cynthia from Pokemon.

That's not to say it's universal. Ryu from Street Fighter is arguably too simplistic, but then you have him doing the Hadouken pose, suddenly he's recognized by everyone.

What pisses me off is Miku isnt even thenfirst vocaloid ever made
Kaito, sweet ann and Maiko were in development all the way in 2003 and Leon and Lola were the first relesed ones in Jan 15 - 2004.

That green stain wasnt even relesed until August 31 3 years later

I crave debate.

What do you all think are the best and worst Pokemon types? And just for hecks, what's your personal favorite type?

I unfortunately live in the purgatory of Rock being my favorite type despite it probably being the second worst type behind Bug. But as for what I consider the best objectively, Steel crushes it with Fairy, Fire and Fighting also in the top 5.

Best types are fairy and fighting because I am a sweatlord. Favourite type is Dark because they made it weak to bug solely as a Kamen Rider reference. Also that a lot of Dark types are genuinely cool and having interesting moves involvinf trickery, I guess...

The best type= Poison

The best pkmn= Weezing

Gen 1 and 2 > all other gens because they lost their way as the years went on. Now days, anything and anyone can be a Pokemon. My sleepy eye crust each morning could be a the next Dynamaxed Tera-typed urine stone evolution of Evee one day. Afterall, Ice cream from Baskin Robins can be a new Pokemon, Car keys can be a new pokemon, a Walmart mirror can be a new Pokemon, Muk after eating fruity pebbles can be a new Pokemon, Dugtrio with a Party City wig can be a new Pokemon, Exeggutor with Otofaciocsrvical Syndrome can be a new Pokemon…..etc. The series has absolutely lost what made it special originally.

Worst type= anything after Gen 2

I used to believe ice was the worst type but am now an ice-type believer thanks to how powerful a good snow team can be. So now its undoubtedly bug that I think is the worst type.

As for the strongest my gut instinct says ground or water. Steel also comes to mind. But of the three I think I'd still have to say ground since I feel it's still the most powerful of them offensively.

Oh I forgot to say my favorite type.

Well you know how much I love dragons. Been obsessed with them ever since I was a kid. There's something just so mesmerizing to be about huge, reptilian monsters.

So obviously my favorite type is flying. Duh. Charizard, Gyarados, Aerodactyl, Lugia, Tropius, Salamence, Archeops, ect. There's just so many cool flying-types. And don't get me started on birds.

I'm like Lance if he was a girl.

Like comp wise? Probably Fairy or Steel. Worst is Bug.

Now my favorite type? Ghost. They never missed with a Ghost type, and my all time favorite is a ghost type as well (Mimikyu).

I'm also a fan of water, dark, and fairy types.

Ngl this the first time in forever that I seen a Genwunner in the wild (Or... GenTwu-er? Idk). Legit thought they all got replaced by Gen Z's nostalgia for Gen 5-7.
Dw they're getting fazed out for people nostalgic about gen 6.

It's me. I'm very nostalgic about the 300+ hours I had played of X back in the day with getting into competitive

I missed the Gen 6 train (I was broke) but I'm seeing Gen 7 sprout up a lot and yeah I will be there no matter what.

On that note, it hit me I never really did the post game for Sun and Moon. Didn't really catch the ultra beasts or half of the Tapus or anything. And I transferred all my Pokemon to Home so now I got none.

Whoops.

It juat baffles me how someone can disregard every single Pokémon after Gen 2. Like I'm not gonna get into my own thoughts on these gens but acting like everything after them has no merit is mind boggling to me

Anyway my favorite type is Ghost, so many of my favorite Pokémon are Ghost types. Chandelure, Decidueye, Annihilape, Aegislash, Palossand, the list goes on.

My least favorite is Ice. Aside from being a terrible defensive type it just has the most Pokémon I struggle to say like, even the ones I like usually have a secondary typing and unlike most other types there's not a single Pokémon there that I can say is one of my all time favorites.
