At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if we get gameplay footage of a new game before the official console reveal.
God I can't wait to see how nintendo infects all their franchises with current gaming trends and practices.

Live service Mario Kart and Smash. Soulslike Zelda. Open World Mario. Metroid hero shooter. These are just a few examples of the slop that is to come.

I mean, for all intents, Smash's DLC cycle was p.much a "live service" experience of big content update that got people back into the game to then wait for the next 'big' update.
Except there was no battle pass and no indefinite milking of microtransactions.

And don’t try to tell me there’s no difference between a season pass and a battle pass.

I mean, that's only 'cause Smash 'ended'. We got a loooooooooot of Mii costumes, and unlike Smash 4, we didn't get any(paid) stand alone stage dlc.

Souls-like Zelda would mean a Zelda game with more than passable combat for once so go for it

That's still a live service.
Also they sold waves of mii costumes on the cheap too.

Legit though, Bowser’s Fury already showed that an open format Mario could work. They just need a game with a way bigger map and a lot more to do.

It’d be like if the Kingdoms in Odyssey were interconnected and you could travel freely from each one, which sounds awesome.

Mario speedrunners on their way to get to the Scrumpus Kingdom from the Ponkus Kingdom in as few A-presses as possible(They'll shave 2 seconds off their gold split if they can).

Interconnected like Banjo-Tooie or Disneyland?

I don’t know. Personally I’ve always thought that having areas as differently themed as Mario levels all connected to each other on a map would be weird. Like imagine trying to take all the Mario 64 levels and connect them on a map.

Maybe level themes like Sunshine could work.

a Mario game with Odyssey gameplay but an open world like BOTW/TOTK

…or a warriors game about Daisy…or Daisy in Luigi’s Mansion 4…or Daisy with a glock…or just more Daisy in general…

Imagine if the desert world was an actual desert you had to find, or the mountain world was on top of mountains you had to climb, or the underwater world was literally underwater and you had to dive down to get to it, or find a way to fly up to the cloud world. And each land has platforming challenges and unique inhabitants and the Mushroom Kingdom (or wherever) feels like an actual world.

It’d be like wahoo-ing across a whole continent, it sounds radical to me.

I mean yeah. You could do that. But then you loose out on the creativity and variety. Like, all of Mario Sunshine’s levels are reasonable sections of Isle Delfino. And that only leads to so much in terms of level themes.

Like, for as much as people love Bowser’s Fury, level theming/variety is not one of its strong suits.

Eh, I thought Sunshine's levels were p.cool tbh.

They weren't very large mind you but like:

A tropical countryside
A freight harbor
A amusement park
A beach
A hotel
A cliffside city with an underwater lost city
A city built atop a giant tree
And a volcano

Yeah, they were all themed around "Tropical" to a degree, but I feel like they got a lot out of it.

Personally I feel drained just thinking of that. That hypothetical experience does not spark any joy in me. I can’t argue whether or not they could do it objectively well or not. I just know I wouldn’t like it.

And, you know, I kinda wanna like the games that come out in franchises that interest me. Mario might not be my favorite but I like a good chunk of his games and would love another entry as long as it doesn’t take too much of a turn into another direction. So… yeah. Just give me linear courses selected via world map. I don’t care about exploration.

Good thing they’re still making 2D Mario’s, so people who want linear experiences and people who want more exploration-based gameplay can both have something.

Ya ever sit up at night thinking

DK64 was soo ungodly bloated with collectables that it took SEVENTEEN YEARS for people to discover a single multicolored coin?

Like, god bless DK64, but it was too fat for its own good lol.

Without any context which names sounds better?

-Johnny Vengeance
-Billy Vengeance
-Ricky Vengeance
-Rocky Vengeance
Big fan of Ricky Vengeance, Ricky has just the perfect blend of sounding cool yet juvenile, like, I see someone in a biker jacket walking in going "Sup, I'm Ricky Vengeance, my parents were killed by demons after Satan attacked us, don't feel too bad for me though, I kicked his butt and stole his powers! Now, I travel state to state so I can make it demon free" while a guitar riff plays with a logo for a tv show
I’ll still wish they were making games like 3D World.
Tbh I feel Kirby and the Forgotten Land very much feels like 3D World and though non Nintendo, Penny's Big Breakaway has that kind of feel for level design too. Y'all should play that, it's fun and has a wonderful soundtrack
You don’t get to be cute. You’re my nemesis/rival. Not my girlfriend.
Ngl this sounds like if Vegeta was slowly falling in love with Goku. Well, more in love idk

Open World Mario soinds interesting, but I think i'd prefer what Odyssey did and just have massive areas to explore, with each having their distinct theming.

Or they can just make Galaxy 3 with open ended space exploration. That'll work
