It's funny reference to pokemon. Getting smacked by a frying pan hard enough could be potentially lethal, turning Tom's face into a handy-dandy dying pan.

This showcase's demon is of the Wilder race:

“I’m Wilder Afanc. I'm pretty confident in my strength. I’d prefer a pretty girl but you can rely on me.”

Alignment: Neutral-Chaos

Origin: Welsh mythology. A lake monster that preys on anyone foolish enough to enter the lake it lives in with poison darts. It can look like a crocodile, beaver, platypus, or a humanoid creature depending on the source, and also turn invisible. Afanc is variously said to live in Llyn Llion, Llyn Barfog, and other lakes. Its sole weakness is a maiden who would let it sleep on her lap, which would make it lay still.

Skills: Toxic Sting, Beastial Bite, Ice Block, Mabufu

Next time, you will meet a demon of the Yoma race.

As Afanc has no agreed-on appearance, it makes sense to pick one animal it is described as, beaver in this case, and give it demonic red eyes. It’s really neat how it even has poison darts around its arms and tail, which also resemble fins to aid its aquatic appearance.

I've followed this company's business-side for like, probably 15 years+ now? I just kinda know what to expect at this point, lol.


Also TBH unless they give SE an unga bunga button, they could be as powerful as a PS5 but SE would still mess it up, they don't know how to develop things outside of Sony architecture and even then, all their games are held together by some bubble gum, some shoe string, and a prayer. KH3 and FF7 were only stable 'cause they used Unreal, and we only got PC ports because Epic more than likely did over half the work, if I had to speculate.

KH4 being on Unreal helps, but like...SE devs and management don't know what to do when Sony isn't fitting the bill, man, they just collapse lol.

Aaaand I'm back from the convention! Made it to round two of the tournament as Pyra and Mythra, but ultimately got beat by a Dark Pit player. I noticed he was playing it very safe and very respective at the ledge when I was off stage, and just when I was starting to plan a way to counter that, he went for a risky spike I wasn't expecting, haha. Still super fun though! Also, I found SQUID GAMES in South Carolina.

Honestly the fact that Anne died and got replaced with a perfect clone is really messing with my head. Like...the original Anne is dead.

And there's probably some deliberate symbolism to it. It's a show about becoming a different person and frick now she's a different person figuratively and literally.

...And then there's the world of Amphibia itself. They have a memorial for her, they can only be with her through memory, and heck, that end credits shot with the tennis racket / sword / crossbow almost resemble grave markers - it really feels like death allegory. In fact, had Anne died permanently Sprig's ending would have been exactly the same!

That schrodingers Anne paradox feels almost symbolic of how she's alive on Earth but essentially dead in Amphibia.

Oh man why do I overthink cartoons so much. I'm really feeling the existential dread Anne mentions.

But heck Terri is still around. Maybe she'll find a way to enlarge the portal without Anne's power.

That's probably my one issue with the finale, to be perfectly honest. The guardian seems to be all-powerful entity or deity of some sort who's watched over idmensions for millennia and created the same stones that granted the Calamity Trio their powers and allowed anyone with the Music Box to travel to other worlds. There's probably at least a million other ways they could saved Anne.

But eh, knowing Amphibia's sense of humor and how they often throw out jokes that never get acknowledged again, the whole "backed up consciousness" thing probably wasn't meant to be taken too seriously beyond the dark joke of Anne having an existential crisis. Even if that's not the case, though...I think I'm just gonna headcanon that idea that it's ultimately the same Anne and that the one that died was somehow the copy instead. It's probably contrived, but it's a lot easier to process.

Aside from that, everything else in the finale was extremely well done, and I don't think the Aesops about friendship and change are lost.

Space-time god wants her to take over their job of overseeing the multiverse, cuz she saved the world, and when you do the same thing for eons you get kinda bored.

Anne's like "Nah, I'm 13. I wanna live the rest of my life."

And space-time god's like "Aight bet. Imma send you back to earth, you live out the rest of your puny human lifespan, and then you take over my job."

We see Anne living a fulfilling life in her twenties, and presumably beyond that.

So...

I guess it's a good thing

Alternatively souls do exist in Amphibia (as confirmed by Zachariah Neddles), and they are tied to memory somehow (implied in Fixing Frobo).

So maybe this new Anne, having all her memories, also has the old Anne's soul. I think that's the happy ending that makes most sense to me.
