Dagnabbit, Nintendo dev musta went on a tangent about why Goombas can't wear hats anymore.

It's okay, though: Arlos can be calmed with freshly prepared "Metroid: Dread"s. And sandwiches.

To be fair. Every single argument we get as to why the mario enemies can’t be treated like races anymore makes absolutely zero sense. Like. Come on. Nintendo is letting this mysterious IP protection team get in the way of… well…. Just doing fun stuff.

I think part of why Mario RPGs kinda died is:

A: Nintendo has developed a phobia of anything resembling a cohesive narrative in Mario.

B: The last few sold kinda bad.

and finally,

C: I think they're going all in on Xenoblade and Fire Emblem being their RPG series, and as such, Mario RPGs just aren't really needed anymore.

The funny thing is that if they were approached by a team wanting to make it, they'd approve it, see Mario and Rabbids, and after playing a good chunk of the first game it's surprising how much they got away with in there, like Bowser Jr outright saying he has daddy issues, toilet humour about a Goomba stuck in a fountain having a clean ass, swearing and more. Only real restraint is that the first boss doesn't wipe his ass with the Mario characters but he will with the Rabbids

Little over three hours and 66% item completion but Super Metroid is finally done. Still a phenomenal game. I'll probably replay it again after I'm done with the other Metroid games I'm planning to go through.

The personality literally comes from the fact that the Rabbids are there. If the Rabbids weren’t there, it would be Mario 1-1 through and through. And I won’t knock it for that. It’s nice that the creative teams are finding loopholes around this stuff. But like… it would be nice if they didn’t have to find loopholes, ya know?

I know you're joking here, but that make me thin: Odyssey & Bowser Fury to a lesser extend did expand the Mario Universe quite a bit, while still having lots of personality inside them.

It make me wonder if Nintendo doesn't see Mario RPG as much needed anymore due to this. Like don't get me wrong, Odyssey & BF story are nowhere near as complex or touching as the good Mario RPG, but after Alphadream died due to bad sells , PM still stuck in a idendity crisis and having other RPG series that are doing REALLY well....for now at least, unless lots of fans speak up, I can't see Nintendo needing Mario to fill a niche that is already mostly filled.

The most ironic thing ever is that DQXI is actually pretty close to oldschool Paper Mario charm and humor, and Xenoblade has even deeper world building.

I think they're still allowed to leave the Mushroom Kingdom as Color Splash did just that.

That's not to say that Prisma Island was really any different however.

Luigi Mansion does let the writting team get more creative story & character wise.

While Nintendo is quite strict with their characters, I feel they do allow some levels of freedom for some of it's team for some games. Sadly, it's the RPG series that aren't allowed to do so, in spite of the fact it's the kind of genre that need it the most.
