Oh, I see. Yes, it would be significantly easier to type up a list of character names than it would be to make an entire fake character selection screen. But at the same time, there are people who are willing to put effort into such things. There was that fake Chrom leak awhile back that gave everyone a scare. Compared to making something like that, making a fake roster out of some basic shapes and pre-made character artwork is significantly easier.
Definitely true. What I was trying to say, for the most part, was that the Sal Romano leak and the 4Chan leak both share similarities. Anyway, I'm not that worried about it being true or not, but I'd rather it be true, 'cause I'd love to see myself some Rids in Smash.

Also, I liked your choice of words regarding the Chrom leak. 'gave everyone a scare.' You sly dog. ;)

When I tried finding size comparisons of Pikachu and Samus, I found really weird porn.

So I had to cobble together some sizes based on Miiverse posts. This isn't 100% accurate as a result, so apologies.

Does this image help at all?

Honestly, I have a good feeling about this leak. It's the most legitimate one we've gotten, even if it is just a really nice fake.

I'm not really sure how to feel about this potential roster myself. On one hand, Ridley would be confirmed, and it looks like Mewtwo has a good chance as well. Though it also looks like there might not be much room for Snake in there... Either way, I think this thing is fake.

And it would seem that my support for Robin is now a widely known trait of mine...

I would go on rambling how much of a dumb design choice it is to have the starter's slots scattered all willy-nilly in a sea of unlocked slots, instead of those being grouped in one small area, like in 64 and Melee, or like Brawl, where they were not present at all, but that's for another topic (I already kinda rambled anyway, so w/e).

Anyhow, we'd better be expecting lots of "leaks" the closer we get to E3. Better get the frick away from the internet upon release date to avoid spoilers!

Well, you also have to look at the silver lining. Yes, it lines up with the Gematsu Leak, as people have pointed out, but.. not only was Ridley never mentioned in the Gematsu Leak, if this particular leak is true, it could technically be ANY character behind those locks.

Most people think it's dumb to have all those locks, but in a marketing sense, that's a genius move. Most people here love to think like huge Smash fans, but not everyone in America follows Smash as closely as we do. Heck, there's probably people out there who have no idea Smash is being developed that are Smash fans. Imagine if you only had an inkling about Smash 4 'cause you happened to hear about the Best Buy event in passing. You say, 'Well, what the heck, I haven't played Smash since Brawl, let's go have a look.'.

You get to Best Buy, you hop in line, you start getting close enough to the front that you can watch fights, and what do you see?

Fifty glorious character slots. The locks tease you, they incense you. Who's behind those closed doors? What characters am I missing out on? The mystery of not knowing what's there is what drives people to even speculate on this sort of stuff in the first place. People will buy the Wii U and the 3DS just to grab Smash and play the new installment, to see what's new. Having all those locked character slots is the equivalent of dangling a steak over a hungry dog that doesn't know it's hungry 'til it sees the steak.

Well, from a marketing point, it does make sense to lure people with something to tell them the game has 11 more characters than the previous game (15 counting Zelda/Shiek, Samus/ZSS and Pokemon trainer as one character each).

Though it still looks messy to have all the characters just scrambled all over the place. I know they're probably ordered per series, which could potentially rise speculation even more, but it still looks really unappealing. Why not just group all twenty something playable characters to the middle of the select screen and have all the unlocked slots to the sides? It'd look more appealing, imo.

Your guess is as good as mine on that one. It's entirely possible they went with this 'cause Sakurai wanted to be more transparent. We wouldn't be able to guess who we're going to see if they weren't ordered like that. In that sense, it's both a great marketing strategy and also a friendly nod at us hardcore Smashers.

It's also possible that they stopped caring 'cause the 3DS version is dropping sooner rather than later. Why worry about locks and organization when people are going to pick up the game a few weeks after E3?

Or, y'know, whatever. Like I said, it's anyone's guess.

They probably have it organized so people will probably try to guess who is actually in the games. I mean if they edited it so all of the characters we know are in the center and all of the locked boxes are in the middle, what do we have? No real guessing space other than about 29 mystery squares. It may look less appealing, but I think it could increase hype and interest much more this way.

EDIT: Regular ninja'd.

It probably wouldn't matter anyway, since the picture that supposedly has Ridley selected for player two kinda gives away the fact that they're likely fakes (as I point out here).

Though I do see them pulling of that one at the demo. However, I'm sure they'll drop it in the final version.

Am I the only who finds it ironic that the Ridley Support Thread is more doubtful of the leak supporting Ridley's chances than the people over at the E3 Rumors/Leaks thread?

I haven't seen what that thread is going on about on this subject, but I think this is the most legitimate leak we've gotten so far, regardless of if it's real or not. Pretty crazy.

As a follower of the Cunning God of Death, one should question the verity of EVERYTHING, whether it supports him or not.

To respond to your inquiry about cell phone cameras.. there are cameras out there that take some pretty crazy pictures as far as megapixels go. Highest I've found is 41 Megapixels, and you can get that puppy for only $100. So, what kind of cellphone camera takes such good pictures? Well.. any cellphone camera from the last three or four years, honestly.

For the curious, someone at NeoGAF tried to piece all of these images together.

If the last space is a random slot, there should be 50 characters here.

My greediness tells me its about 10 characters short for my liking, but w/e. I'm not to fond of it being only 3 slots high, though.

Maybe it's from my personal experience of having cellphone with really ****ty camera feature, but I still don't believe the fact that you could see, with a simple camera, every existing pixels of the HUD.

Okay, so I was looking for comparison shots to scale, and I found an old groupshot with scaled-down Ridley pic done by another guy.

Dude must've been a friggin wizard.

Behind your eyes.
I was just about to say this, the CSS here looks very aesthetically appealing, and is a decent size. I am all for it. There is one issue, and that is that Ghirahim is clearly absent. :(

Ridley is in, though, so that's nice.
I was referring more so to the glorious intersection of image planes, as well as the irregular boundary of the overall screen.

That entire leak has just been so emotionally draining... at this point I don't even care if it's true or not, just to get it out of the way haha

So the deal with the leaks for anyone not up to date:

The pictures are supposedly of the character selection screen, namely the demos at Best Buy and the Smash Invitational. Each franchise is grouped together. There are two spaces in between Samus and Pit, one obviously being reserved for ZSS. The last pic the leaker gave out has a character between ZSS and Pit whose name ends with "y" and is supposedly grouped with the Metroid franchise.

Whether this is real or not of course remains to be seen, seems like too much of a tease to only just catch the "y" to me, but we'll see I suppose.
May Lord have mercy on us all.......

The first time I set eyes on that silly thing I knew it was a fake.
C'mon. Would they really organize the select screen like that?

Don’t know if it helps much, but I compared Smash 4 Ridley with Dead or Alive Ridley. Something I noticed is that DoA Ridley is a lot bigger than Smash 4 Ridley, which is interesting, because DoA Ridley is his original size. Even the large fighters (Genra and Tengu) are dwarfed by Ridley. The same can’t be said for Pikachu in Smash 4. He really isn’t all that small compared to Ridley, which leads me to believe that Ridley has shrunk quite a bit. I don’t think Sakurai would shrink Ridley if he's just a stage hazard, so there must be more to this.
