I think the important thing we're all forgetting isn't whether we think Ridley can work, but if the developer working on Smash at any given time thinks he can work.
Fixed.

You know, usually when users bring up the Infinite Monkey Theorem with regard to Smash (especially Sal's leak), it's absolute crap, but I think it actually applies here: if there were an unlimited number of parallel universes in which different developers with different tastes were working on Smash, every character in existence would eventually 'work.' All of them.

With Ridley in particular, he's a major enough Nintendo character that, even if Sakurai turns him down, the very next guy might have a change of heart.

So Batman and C.O.D. Soldier are technically viable? The 12 year olds will be elated.

It should be worthy to note that the reason Ridley is so intimidating isn't because of his size but because of his aggressive moves, Ridley is one of the smallest metroid bosses actually but the way he attacks you is what intimidates you, if they give ridley his aggressives moves then he would stay in character

Yes. This was actually the premise of the very first Make Your Move contest; based on the Infinite Monkey Theory, every character in existence is in Smash, so go design movesets for your favorites.

I mean, it could look weird having Olimar throwing pellets, because in the original they are large compared to Olimar.
Even though pellets from :distantplanet: are about the same size as Olimar.

So Batman and C.O.D. Soldier are technically viable? The 12 year olds will be elated.
They are viable, technically speaking, they've got enough resources to make a moveset, but they SHOULDN'T be in. That's a different subject.

Like I mentioned before, we could have Ridley as semi-playable. How would you react to that?
This is honestly what I think the outcome with Ridley will be, if he's not a normal player character.

Some possibilities for "semi-playable" Ridley:

1. He's a playable boss in a new "players vs. Boss" mode in which up to 4 regular characters fight against bosses controlled by a player who's using the gamepad.
2. He's a controllable stage hazard. When he swoops in, you can jump on his back and control him to a limited extent.
3. He's a stage boss, and whoever lands the final blow gets to control him for a while.
4. He's part of Zero Suit Samus' final Smash (somehow she gains control of him).

I think a mode with someone controlling stage hazards (maybe with the gamepad) would be a cool little addition. It'd be fun to play with friends.
No argument there, but the point is it would mean Sakurai has been teasing us for months about a character that many have been waiting over a decade for, only to reveal that he got demoted to being a meager stage gimmick.

Sakurai is a known troll, it's not out of character.
4. He's part of Zero Suit Samus' final Smash (somehow she gains control of him).
ZSS Final Smash: Other M PTSD
Ridley appears on the stage, causing Samus to go into shock despite literally killing him multiple times previously without flinching. He grabs Samus and proceeds to throw her around the stage. If it's a team match, your ally will be knocked off the stage and seemingly killed until the end of the match.

Even so, you have to admit he's been especially trollish with Ridley. Sure others have been teased more then a few times (Palutena anyone?), but none have come close to the amount of ambiguity Ridley has gone through. Heck, we saw his shadow (and the tip of his tail) and still Sakurai hasn't even called him by name.

Sakurai knows what we want and thats a fact and im sure he also knows Ridley is the most debated Super Smash request EVER. I really do think he is playing off of that.

Of course he's playing off of that. And clone Ridley is very likely to be a boss character in the Pyrosphere.

He knows what we want, that's why he added "just because you try hard doesn't mean you'll make it into battle" to the Waluigi picture.

Also,

So don't refute your terribly constructed argument with obvious facts? That's not allowed? And to reinforce that, obviously all characters that are in the game EVEN THOUGH they break all of the rules you have made here "make sense" and one that hasn't been in a game yet but can easily be worked out DESPITE all of your bizarre fabricated restrictions "doesn't make sense"?
You can make a point despite of the facts, not in blatant disregard of them. That kind of stuff is possible. Have you no comment on my long paragraph after you declared "game, set and match" on a game we never began?

Sakurai has some sort of cardiovascular disorder that will cause his jugular vein to rupture if he adds Ridley or any other highly requested character. He had a full team of surgeons on hand when he added Sonic and Olimar.

I made some comments. I think a couple of people did. But a response would be nice.

Are you ****ing kidding me......Like for real are you serious??? You think Sakurai was talking to the fans when saying that? You really think he was being a jerk to the fans?......He was talking about Waluigi himself not his fans. Waluigi's persona is being a try hard.

I didn't read it, because to be honest, I take people who make braindead commentary like yours and put them on my ignore list. If I ever get bored enough to deal with those kinds of people later, I will. But it'll be at my luxury to put up with it more than I have to, not yours.

Well, Rids seems to jump from one series of animations to another based on the shadow, implying that he's either unfinished (unlikely) or that player inputs are making him jerk around in such a manner.
I really don't get how "jerky" the animation seen in the shadow is anything different from actions done by bosses in Brawl.

Especially evident when bosses aren't following a set timing pattern.

Judging by that pic, I highly doubt Meta Ridley, even a wingless one, would have been viable, seeing as he's, what, 4x DK's size? Also, I highly doubt wingspan would play into any significant hitbox issues on a 2D battleground.
He's much smaller than Giga Bowser. He would work.

And comparing a reference to *Waluigi* and his reveal in Brawl as an assist trophy to Ridley. You... really don't put a positive light on yourself, and I'm not sure if you do that on purpose.

No that is too big for a playable character even when crouched.

Good thing Smash 4 Ridley is waaaaay smaller then this going by our size comparisons.
I always find it funny when people say "He's like twice the size of Bowser". Yellow Devil is twice the size of Bowser. And this Ridley is, if ANYTHING can be said with significant levels of certainty, a good amount smaller than the Yellow Devil.

If Ridley is confirmed to be a boss, I'd like to see him drag fighters against the wall as an attack. That'd be a bit cinematic, though, and I'm not sure how that'd "fly" with people.

I'm pretty sure he's smaller than Brawl Ridley or Yellow Devil. My general range is about 1.25 Bowser's height thereabouts with his hunched posture? That's a pretty small boss.

Maybe he needed to be scaled down a bit so he wouldn't take up too much room. Then again, the Yellow Devil takes up a bunch of room and briefly covers the entirety of the stage when he shifts positions.

He takes up half the freaking stage. So downscaling Ridley for hazard duty makes no sense in that regard.

What if Sakurai believes that Ridley is so big, he can't even fit as a stage boss.

Instead, Ridley is a stage, kind of like Pokéfloats.
You just ride on Ridley, as he flies through the sunset.

This will be the big E3 reveal, I'm calling it.

The Pyrosphere is actually a stage, but there is also another stage where Pyrosphere is the BACKGROUND and Ridley is the stage. This is Sakurai's true ultimate troll. It's magnificent.

Yeah, Yellow Devil is like twice as tall and about twice as wide. Yellow Devil is really big, and is on a small stage.

Then we have Dinkley on a much bigger stage. :p What a boss.
Well if he is a stage hazard who is tiny atleast the 2 big argument will die!!! :awesome:

Smashoperatingbuddy123 did a great job with the size comparisons. We have a Bowser tall Ridley who is about Charizard in thickness I'd say. His wings are still big though not that it will matter.

Wait, I got it. The lava under the stage rises and pushes the entire platform through that detailed hole in the background. Then it enters a vertical tunnel. After a few seconds it breaks apart and the fighters land on Ridley in all his gigantic glory and they continue fighting on his back while falling for the rest of the match.

Yo mama's so big, she's gonna be a stage hazard on the Pyrosphere.

Yo mama's so big, Shokio says she's "big as sh*t."

Yo mama's so big, she has to be shrunk down to be playable in Smash.

And the list goes on and on and on.
