If Ridley does get de-confirmed again this time around, I won't despair. I have already mentally prepared myself for this outcome and already got my bitter words in for Sakurai (though I will probably give him one last big laceration if stage hazard Ridley does end up happening).

Instead, I want to hit the ground running. Prepare ourselves for next time. In terms of convincing fans, there is nothing more we can do. Ridley has been among the Top 5 most wanted characters in the West for the past two games.

Instead we need to focus our attention on how to get gaming media and Sakurai aware of the strong demand for Ridley (get more gaming outlets to ask Sakurai about Ridley in the future, possibly soft questions such as "do you think Ridley will ever be playable in Smash Bros.? There is a lot of people who have wanted him in for a long time now."

Hoewever, for those of us that WANT a playable Ridley within the next year or two, we should focus our efforts into lobbying the Project M team into considering making an excellent playable Ridley hack. Something that shows what Ridley is capable of as a playable fighter in Smash Bros.

The point is that, as soon as Ridley is de-confirmed we need to rally and charge instead of dispersing and treating. The Ridley fanbase has been fighting longer than any other character fanbase among the Smash Bros. fandom. If we have to go on for 20 years of fighting before we finally see a playable Ridley, WE WILL.

Well, see it like this to Chrono. Ridley was majorly requested for 2 games? Ok, but so where characters who where so obvious and heavily requested that just got in with Brawl. Prime examples: Wario, Diddy Kong, MetaKnight / King Dedede. That was 2 games of waiting to. And be sure of it many people where upset to that they didn't get in Melee, but instead we had to deal with **** we never wanted as: Zelda / Sheik, Ice Climbers, Mr Game & Watch, Roy, Dr.Mario, Pichu and Young Link.

Don't get too high hopes up either for Project M. I doubt they'd expand their characters much more than Mewtwo, and Lyn, if she's actually getting in as has been rumoured / leaked. Perhaps they throw in someone as Villager, Mega Man and Wii Fit Trainer in to after a while, but I don't see them fully designing a Ridley moveset from scratch honestly.

That is from a "leaker" on 4chan who said among other things that Isaac, Dixie Kong, and Little Mac would be in ( good). But also we would be getting stuff like Waluigi and Shadow the Hedgehog. It also said Sami from Advance Wars.

I think if there was a massive outcry and fan-back financing, there would an effort made to include Ridley.

Waiting from Smash 64 to Brawl was about nine years.

Waiting from Melee to about Smash 5 will be around 20.

Shadow the Hedgehog and Waluigi would make me stop following Project M instantly honestly. I can't think of 2 more cringe-worthy characters. But if they are in... Likes of Ridley and K.Rool should definitely be considered at least. Otherwise, blamesphy.

@ChronoBound: These all seems like good ideas, but haven't you said repeatedly that you would leave the Smash scene after this game? Also, take into account that this could very well be the last game Sakurai directs or maybe even the last game period.

Yeah. Even Sami screams MUGEN to me. It would be extremely unprofessional to open the doors to those two and really a whole lot of newcomers.

I think even opening the door for Lyn, Little Mac, and Isaac would be awkward since they would be using models that are much less detailed than the entire Project M cast. Ridley at least has a model on par with the rest of the Brawl cast through his two boss forms.

They should do their best to polish up the models a bit though. I actually think those 3 characters don't look so bad at all. Neither do Samurai Goroh, Saki and... *ugh* Waluigi. Ridley's boss model looks on par with all playable characters though. And I think only Lyn would need some tweaks in her face, and make the sword like the Mani Katti. Other than that, she's fine. Isaac also needs a sword resembling either the Gaia Blade or Sol Blade.

I want a playable Ridley one way or another. I have no patience to deal with a troll like Sakurai or the mass stupidity that is much of gaming fandom anymore. Project M is giving me back Mewtwo and Roy in a game that is more balanced that Brawl and plays like Melee.

I am not sure whether the Project M team would want to develop Ridley, but I think if we put together a massive effort (and I mean truly massive) they will at least attempt it.

That might not be exactly the case, considering the staff is pretty capable of making custom made models. Case in point, the model used for Roy in Project M is custom made. If it's absolutely necessary, a custom model will be made.

I don't think that Ridley will be a stage hazard. I don't think Sakurai would be too keen on doing the Dead or Alive thing, and he's hyped the Pyrosphere so much it's tantamount to trolling.

I'm trying to stay optimistic and convince myself that Sakurai cares about character representation for their franchises. Samus is the only Metroid rep we've got. hell, I'll even take Anthony if it means we get more Metroid characters, but Ridley should be Sakurai's primary focus.

Well frankly, we're running out of obvious Nintendo characters. When Little Mac is considered the most likely newcomer we're not exactly in a good place. Even if you're right about Ridley being a stage hazard and whatever (by the way Sakurai is handling the Pyrosphere right now it's not exactly looking like a certainty) As smash bros games go on the elephant in the room will continue to get bigger =P

At your first point, the Project M team hasn't even been able to get around to making Mewtwo... How would they get to making a completely customized Ridley? Slapping in Charizard animations, or even his Boss Battle attacks? While I'd love to see what they could do, I'd rather it be something totally new and fresh versus having to "borrow" in order to complete him faster... especially in time for SSB4.

Boss Battle attacks could work actually. All moves except that Master Hand-like 'going into the backgroud' think work. Whirlwind wings? Yes. Nerfed 'Extreme Speed'-like attack? Works. Fiyah Ballz? Yep yep.

I think the only thing that trying to get the P:M team to add Ridley to their roster will do is make them angry and/or reflect poorly on the Ridley fanbase.

Thank you. The thought of Other M Ridley being playable enraged me to the point that the only sensible thing to do was post my disdain for the idea.

this really bothers me though, since Fusion Suit Samus is chronologically the most recent iteration but this version of her hasn't been featured in Smash. the palette swap in Brawl doesn't count.

One thing Chronobound mentioned last page was making sure the press asks about Ridley. I planned to get in to E3 this year and basically find Sakurai myself and ask questions. With the help of a Nintendo website I was going to run around with a press badge. The first time in 4 years I didn't make it, the most important one too.

Before next E3 comes around if Ridley doesn't get some reveal by then we need to pester our favorite gaming sites and make sure they know we want them to ask these Ridley questions. I'm doing my part by constantly spamming Miiverse with Ridley related topics both on the English and Japanese communities, but we need to do more.

If just one of many of these sites asked about Ridley again and with more detail we could get some real information that could potentially stop the arguments for good. Of course then we would all be arguing why Sakurai should do it and not why he couldn't.
