To be honest, I never really got into Metroid myself. I watched a play through of the Other M. I played Metroid Prime 3 in my entirety. I didn't really give the game a fair shake, but it just felt like a Halo knock-off to me. I am sure there are better Metroid games out there. They just aren't for me. If I am going to play a shooter, I would rather play Call of Duty or Battlefield.
Don't play the FPS Metroid games then, aka the Prime games. I've always found the sidescroller ones superior either way, and if you ever feel like giving it a shot, then Super Metroid is a good start, or as Diddy Kong suggests Zero Mission.

Make sure you don't forget about Metroid II.
Its huge lack of direction and non-linearity leads me to warn people that they should play this as the last sidescroller, it's a good game, but only once you've come to love Metroid already.

I've played the likes of the first NES Metroid and Metroid Prime 1 but I never really went too far ahead with them. With Metroid 1 I wasn't really sure where I was going and with Metroid Prime that was more the case that my Gamecube Memory card was lost so I continually had to start over. I traded the game away sometime ago and now I finally decided to give the series a third spin. I managed to find a used copy of Metroid Prime 2 Echoes so I decided to play through that first. The controls kinda takes some getting used to but I guess I'm getting the hang of it. I'll see if I can get back Metroid Prime 1 and Metroid Prime 3 Corruption and I'll download Super Metroid off the virtual console if it's there. I'll see when I can get my hands on the Handheld Metroids though. Thanks for the suggestions by the way guys. ^^

Super Metroid will frustrate you if you're not experienced with the series. But it's still the best in the series. Fusion is also awesome. It was my first Metroid game.

While I wouldn't suggest it as a start, I found it much easier to navigate than the first game. I'm just a bit saddened by how neglected it seems to be.

Metroid Prime is not an FPS. It's a FPA where you shoot things, and should be thought of as such. The focus of the game is exploration, not the killing of legions of enemies like in Halo or CoD. It's the start of my love for the series. It's a masterpiece in every sense of the word. The production values hold up so well today. In fact, Nintendo needs to make an HD Metroid Prime.

Fusion is pretty good too. It's a lot more linear than every other game, maybe except Other M, but it does it in a very nice way so that it flows nicely, and at times it still leaves you alone without directions. The whole X Parasite theme was also very cool. It has by far the ugliest Ridley design though :p

Metroid Prime's graphics already holds up extremely well imo. If any Metroid game needs to be remade officially, then it's Metroid 2, but in all honesty I don't want to see another HD remake before I see a Majora's Mask remake.

Am I the only person who thinks all of this Ridley teasing almost guarantees his inclusion?

Sakurai is a very smart and cunning man... He knows what he's doing. Giving off all of these hints and teases without actually including the character in the final product would be the equivalent of a hot girl inviting you over to her house to get it on and then changing her mind once you get her clothes off.

Metroid Prime Sub-series games, arent just shooters, it happens to be a First Person Adventure Games, it combines exploration (a thing Metroid is know for), combat, plantforming, puzzles, and more, while in CoD and Battlefield you just have to shot and walk to finish them, so dont compare Prime with CoD, Battlefield, or Halo, please.

My experience with Metroid Prime 3 was very similar to my experience with Halo. I didn't compare it to Battlefield or Call of Duty though, I simply stated that I prefer those two games. You can't really beat the refined controls, or in Battlefield's case, the Frostbite engine. Metroid Prime just felt a little clunky too me. I don't have the necessary experience to conceive a proper opinion though. I was just sharing my experience.

I am willing to bet I would prefer the side scroller Metroids. I am just to used to 60 fps and sleek controls in the FPS genre. Although I did enjoy Metroid more than Halo. I just thought it felt like a knock off.

Um

What "many signs" are you talking about?

Really the only "sign" has been a vaguely worded post implying that Ridley will be connected to Pyrosphere somehow.
don't fool yourself, the quote from the first picture of pyrosphere is "an enemy from samus's past could appear at any time'

there's not many ways to misconstrue that.

Do I really have to repeat my last message people?

For all we know, Ridley could just be biding his time until his official confirmation as a new Metroid series fighter.

Sorry, I guess I got everyone off track when I said that I finally decided to play the Metroid games. Ah well, lets get back to Ridley now.

As I've said before, I don't see why Ridley would be revealed as a stage hazard after we've already seen so many images of the Pyrosphere, it seems illogical to me.

I also don't see why they would build all this hype up for Ridley to get revealed as a boss, (or an Assist Trophy for that matter) since he was already one in SSBB, even being fought twice, unless theres some sort of major change to bosses in Smash.

if Ridley is confirmed as a stage hazard after all of these Pyrosphere screenshots and all of the hype and clear demand to see him in Smash, I will cry uncontrollably.

if he IS put in, I'll cry anyway. but it'll be a good cry. tears of joy and all that.

There does seem to be a slow tease here. Unless Sakurai is just really impressed with the stage.

I predict that Ridley will be a stage hazard so I can smell all those delicious tears coming from the fanboys.
I predict Ridley will be a playable character so I can watch all the anti-fanboys, idiots and trolls who suddenly came crawling out of the woodwork once Ridley was apparently hinted at being stage hazard, suddenly go crawling back into it. I'll be giving them a fond 'F U' as they go.

literally the most successful and satisfying counter-troll operation ever

Hey, quick question. Are you all sure Ridley will be a stage hazard? The post never said stage hazard. For all we know, he might make a background appearance as he did in 64. Thoughts?

I'm not sure at all, I was never sure. People were far too quick to jump to the conclusion that Sakurai's comment to accompany the reveal of the Pyrosphere definitely meant Ridley was a stage hazard. In my eyes Sakurai's comment could equally be hinting that he appears on the stage during his introduction movie, or that he could be fought as a boss battle there. The comment is very open to interpretation, people just jumped to that one conclusion.

I thought so. It was really vague. I doubt he'd be a stage hazard. I think a Boss Battle or Cameo would be more fitting for him.

Or, fingers crossed, his introduction movie is on the Pyrosphere.

All four are equally viable possibilities. The pessimism and defeatism of the supporters and the eagerness of the opposers to rub the supporters' noses in Ridley not being playable, led to the community as a whole coming to a conclusion prematurely.

It was a TEASE because Samurai knows how to build up anticipation.

I mean think about it... if any one of were in his shoes we'd be doing the same thing. Ridley would easily be one of the biggest additions in the game so I'd try to milk the anticipation as much as I could.

From a buisness perspective raising everyone's expectations just to let them down in the end is a terrible marketing strategy... especially for a character as demanded as Ridley.

Gun to my head Id say Ridley is in this game. Its just a matter of when Sakurai drops the bomb.

Ridley bursts onto the stage, readying a blast of fire, all combatants bracing themselves for the hit. . . . .

. . . when he gets struck by an Ice Beam burst, and Anthony jumps onto the rear portion of the stage. They then proceed to fight each other in the background.

I am curious though what all the "Ridley doesn't matter" people will say, if K. Rool is excluded too? Obviously, Sakurai is clearly enlightended. Afterall, K. Rool hasn't been in a major DK since 1999.

Just you wait, Sakurai is going to troll everyone and make Ridley from other M playable, the Ridley from Nintendoland a stage hazard, the mystery creature as an assist trophy and Meta Ridley a boss.

"So I heard you wanted Ridley, so you can now play as Ridley against Ridley and be helped by Ridley when you're attacked by Ridley on Ridley's stage."

This was discussed on the last page a bit. In short, there's nothing Sakurai can do that a large percentage of the fanbase will not defend adamantly. Absolutely nothing.

That said, I think it's a stretch to lump K. Rool in with Ridley and Toad when the former is surrounded by a culture of toobigotry and the latter was never in their league as far as likelihood goes.

i think pyrosphere is ridleys stage
well... yes... that's the stage Samus fought Ridley on in Other M.

edit: as for King K. Rool... please no. we don't need any more Mario spinoff characters... more than a fifth of last game's roster was comprised of characters from a Mario or Mario spinoff franchise
