Geno in the game and on the dojo to finally know, to let the arguments end to let either the fans feel emtpy or piss the haters off.

Yes, but that's not why he was chosen. He was picked because Sakurai liked the theme song to the game. As a character, he really didn't deserve to be in the game when they could have had Pit in the friggin' first place.

Geno was in the first Mario RPG. It was Geno who brought Mario into the mission to recover the stars. Mario was the main playable character. Geno was the main character of the scenario. Geno is more important than Mario in this game.
Sakurai speaks of Geno many times. Like others have said, popularity does play a very big part in the inclusion of characters. Ice Climbers(NES game that many haven't played) and Mr. Game and Watch(Many do not not know who he is, which did shock me). Geno placed very highly on Sakurai's polls. Many others that were mention by Sakurai have been included. With Geno being one of the most highly talked about by the creator, what is it to say that he won't be included?
Nintendo has obviously been thinking about Geno since SMRPG. If not, then there would be no need for a cameo appearance in M&L. If they did not care for the character any more, then they would not have allowed an appearance by him.
Geno was on one of the last 'great'(depending on your opinion of the game) games for Super Nintendo. The game is requested for the VC, and is suppose to be released before this year is over(according to Nintendo). Nintendo could be trying to see how popular Geno would be to see if they should buy all of the rights from Square-Enix to put him into more important games.
Sakurai likes retro characters. Look at Ike, Ice Climbers, and Game and Watch. If Super Nintendo is not considered retro, then you have not looked around in a long, long time. If Sakurai is going for the retro video game characters, has an open spot for a Mario character, talks about Geno, and is looking for impact video games to put into Brawl, then why not Geno?

good god...when will people understand that Sakurai isn't just throwing characters into the game to satisfy a quota, or to represent certain franchises and genres? the bottom line is, he puts characters in the game that a) are fun to play and b) that he personally likes and c) gamers like.
quit making this into a matter of pseudo-politics....

Geno is more likely to be in brawl than Megaman and Bowser Jr. If I'm not mistaken, Sakurai said he wanted a 40-50 chacaracter rooster didn't he? If that's the case I'd say Geno has a very good chance of being in.

i believe you're mistaken. Sakurai never said anything about the number of characters on the roster, estimated or otherwise.

Ah, well, now that you word it like that...
Really, I don't think there's really much worry about the newcomers. In my mind, there's enough room for all the most wanted folks, and the only ones that have to be concerned are folks like Isaac and Japan-exclusives like Sukapon and Takamaru.

i'd say that either Sukapon or Takamaru have pretty good chances. i'm not too familiar with either character, but from what i've seen they both look like they'd be great.
i've still yet to see any of my most wanted characters in Brawl, come to think of it. maybe they are all just that awesome that Sakurai's gonna hold on to them until the last minute. at least Geno and Ridley seem like they'd fit that bill.

The problem with Sukapon and Takamaru is not that they won't fit in the game (they very well could), but more because they leave the vast majority of non-Japanese gamers saying "WHO THE HELL ARE THESE GUYS?!", something that Sakurai has expressed a desire to limit.
Back on topic:
Drawing Geno scares the crap out of me for some reason...I'm more comfortable drawing Ridley. O_o

i still say that a Star Road level would be rockin'. maybe in place of Mushroom Kingdom II? it could have those blue blocks that you could pick up and throw and people, too. if you played Super Mario World, then you should know what i mean.

Even if Geno's not in Brawl, I would really look forward to seeing just an udated version of him. Ice Climbers and Pit went from like 3 different colored pixels to what they are now. I can't wait to see how Geno would look.

I think he was just inferring that, in the event that Geno was not in Brawl, he'd just like to see what Geno would look like on a console in this generation.
