Play the game for a DECADE? Jesus, ~N9NE~, do you want us to unlock him at all?
To unlock him, it would be cool if you actually got to fight him IN the Subspace Emissary. He would fly down in his ship after seeing the Halberd reak havoc on Smashworld or something, and decide to help.

Bomberman is deserving of such an outlandish requirement to unlock him. Alternatively, your idea was good too lol.
The icon thing was discussed near the beginning of this thread if I recall correctly.

The classic bomb logo by itself always works. Just cut out the title of this pic, and leave the bomb by itself. Then imagine it shaded gray just like all the other icons in Brawl:

Check off Assist Trophies, since we came up with two or so a while ago.
Hmm. His character entrance... He could fly in on his ship from Bomberman 64: TSA!.
Rukifellth would be more boss material, now that I think about it, so how about Pommy as an Assist Trophy? He could come out in one of many different random forms and bop the person closest to him!
I don't know all of his forms, so some of you guys might have to help me.
Hammer Pommy: 15%, moderate-high knockback.
Knuckle Pommy: 5%, low knockback, but high hitstun.
Normal Pommy: 0%, low knockback, three-second stun, like Mewtwo's Disable.
Quadruped Pommy: Dunno; never got this one. :embarrass
Claw/Cat Pommy: 20%, high knockback.
Other than that, I don't know. Oh yeah, and naturally, weaker Pommy forms are easier to get. Sigh...

We definitely discussed Icons. Had a sort-of argument over my final decision on the Hudson Bee:
The other choice was the Classic Bomb:
End the end, I chose the Bee because it's more congruous with Sonic and Snake having their company symbols. Feel free to disagree, but we've had this discussion before (and I've had an internal review,too), so if you try to argue, I've got every point covered.
We already discussed this. Not too long ago, actually.

Sakurai's comment on Wifi leads me to believe they'll all be unlockable this way.
And I think a sequel to Melee's Bombs Away! (I think that was its name) Event Match would make a suitable way of unlocking him. Brawl seems to be setting itself up for bomb battles, considering all the explosives we've seen.
Also, playing a certain amount of Versus Matches, obviously.
I'm going to revise my moveset before it's too late. Brawl will be out soon, and we'll find out then, if not earlier, about Bomberman. And what's the point of a fan-moveset when we already know the real one?
I mean it, f'real this time. I have plenty of time, and while I do have better things to do, I don't want to.
