Yeah well, I actually used to play Brawl, and I'm actually tempted to pick it back up since Anther is back in the scene putting in work with Pikachu, it kind of got me a little inspired.

I used to play Brawl like a madman, lol.
As for characters, pick the characters you like to use and develop them one by one. atleast, thats what i did.

For real bro? Wow you're a poor sport, you used Falco's CG against me and I still kept playing, if you're going to play Fox against Pika, learn to not get grabbed instead of rage-quitting when you do, you'll never get better that way, and trust me you could use a lot of improvement.

T'is true, I should've just kept my mouth-shut instead of contributing to it, I apologize, it just irks me when someone CGs me then rage-quits when I do the same to them.
