I thought there weren't any subways in the south because the ground couldn't support it? The same reason why there aren't very many houses with basements. Right?

don't know why society matters when it's your decision. it's not like you're doing something immoral.
because you people keep on trying to guilt trip the triangle because "we never travel" to tournaments, when tournaments do not have high value to people. it would be different if our employers, parents, and (non-smash) friends did care about smash, but they don't, so for us to take so much time and energy to dedicate to something that we do not care about is silly. you speak as if we have a moral obligation do go to things when we do not. I'm so sick of this 'holier than thou' attitude you come across as having whenever people talk about not having smash as a main priority.

because society holds men who cook in such high regard.
try telling the cooks they have no value next time you go to a restaurant and see how it goes.

That's because if you don't do ****, then the community dies. It IS the responsibility for every smasher to care about smash if you want to keep it going. If you don't care then what are you still doing here?

I see what you are saying ocean, but he is posting this "guilt trip" on smashboards in the power ranking thread. It's not like he's going to your job and telling you to stop so you can come smash, I think he is assuming that if you are reading this thread you are to some extent interested in smash and getting better (since it is a PR thread after all).

Also, idk what chris is talking about, being a chef is a prestigious job last time i checked but idk... gordon ramsay is my hero so mabye im biased.

You know what? There is a million and one things I could say about the topic at hand right now, but from my perspective, it looks like East NC just doesn't care about the community as a whole anymore. And I don't feel like wasting my time reasoning with people who are only gonna make excuses for themselves over and over again.

I want to come up with a humorous remark indicating the extraordinary bluntness of arch's comments

But I think it's best summed up with "damnnnnnn"

Guilt tripping? Really? I'm not even sure why you feel guilty about what I said unless it does bug you or strike some nerve, which was the intent of what I said but not a guilty one.

Wait actually, I'm gonna respond well to this one.

High value to people? It's all relative. YOU're in this community. YOU're the one interacting with all of us. Not THEM. Why does it matter what all of those people think when YOU're doing this? None of this is even aimed at YOU since you just like to get on the boards and complain about smash anyway. It's a dang hobby, and if you have free time to get online to tell me how I like to make myself more important than everyone, then you would have free time to improve your game. I want this state to be great and be something competitive. That used to be an attainable goal before everyone decided the higher moral ground was more fun in every discussion instead of working together to achieve that end. If you hate me so much for trying to motivate everyone then stick to you greenfests and let me work with people that care about the game.

I'm sick of being told I'm talking myself up when I've been speaking the same way to you guys online for like 3 years and it's done far more good than harm. I'm not going to talk about what I've done beyond that but if you would see past YOUR feelings on this subject and look at the events as they've unfolded you couldn't even be fully brought to disagree. I don't hold myself over everyone else and to think so is absolutely ******** and I bet you know it too. Because I'm passionate about this state becoming competitive and actually show the improvement from getting together so much I'm CLEARLY just saying I'm better than all of you guys in every way. How about you look at what I'm saying as just that: WHAT I'M FREAKING SAYING. I'm not implying I'm better than you. I'm not implying I have better priorities than you. I'm not implying I have better social standing or understanding of the world or philosophy or whatever than you. I'm trying to motivate people to come to tournaments so we can improve together so we can bring in more OOS so we can improve more so we can go to majors and turn heads so we can improve more and so on and so forth. This has been my goal ever since early 2009 when I became the best in the state and that hasn't changed. If you don't like it then that's fine but you can expect long responses like this every time you decide to tell me it doesn't matter. To me and a lot of people it does. People like NASCAR but I think it's dumb, but I don't tell anyone that likes NASCAR it's dumb and don't try to kill anyone's spirit for it if they enjoy it because I know what it's like to enjoy something. Same as with your cooking. You like it and I support you doing it because I like it when people I know succeed and I know what it's like to want to improve yourself.

Just try to look at it from a cooking perspective possibly. That may help.

Heh.. respect +1 for that post, holy ****. I like that. =) Respecting the intelligence in every single one of us is definitely the key for peace. Everyone has their own tastes and likes, but I mean to me it's really stupid to try to stomp on people's dreams just because someone don't like it. It's ****ing dumb and it needs to stop.

i thought it used to be when i said

imma **** u up

that actually got u going and wanting to **** the other guy

but on the real, **** an ocean opinion man

if you're going to question the pertinence of smash on smashboards, then go away. it's ironic and pretty hypocritical to bring up smash as an external factor to the importance of your life on smashboards when discussion about smash and the community should instead eschew great influence from non smash factors (except maybe money since they're quite related).

consider any hobby. how is being good at smash going to be relevant? consider smash. how is being good at any other hobby relevant?

so anyways

ive been working on fighting lvl 9 computers so you best believe you're all in for some trouble

especially kevin, now that im on that next level stuff

pp, aren't you on vacation or something?? lol

Just chill man, the people who are motivated are gonna come on their own. If you really have to argue day in and day out on the boards for people to come to tournaments, odds are that when they do they aren't gonna be that motivated to get better.

Now that ur the best player, people are always gonna assume there is hidden meaning in your posts. I'm sure back when you sucked, you posted asking people to come to tournies because you wanted to get better. The reality is, even if you post that now, with the same intent, people are just gonna think you want more money because you know you're gonna win. You can't help it, it just comes with being the best.

I'm sure it's really frustrating, but just focus on the positive aspects of being the best. You can challenge kage to a match, where the winner gets to break the loser's fingers and he'll have to accept because hes a warrior lol.... naw but seriously, you should just travel oos more... I'm going to Nova for a tourney this weekend if you want a ride

Well see I used to feel that way, but when I left everything alone too much negativity and bs crept in. If I fight a lot then it gets maintained but not taken away, whereas those who agree with what I'm saying feel more motivated. It's not easy to do but it's better than letting things get worse or allowing people who are motivated to feel like no one cares and slipping into the same stuff. It's all a cycle for me really, as I've had to argue and pull teeth to get a lot done around here. This is just the newest iteration of it all for me(DJ knows and that's why he's being a pain right now among other reasons LOL but he was that guy last).

I'm not saying I expect to change anyone's minds with what I'm doing, but if this helps maintain the status quo then that's better than allowing anyone to become/get more apathetic.

And yeah, that's a valid point about being the best that I've forgotten. I'm getting better at handling everything everyone is saying to me because of it but it's still hard. It makes me not want to be the best a lot of the time haha. =p It's whatever though, as I still get on here enough I might as well make myself useful since I have the resources necessary to do so.

Traveling even within the state atm is annoying due to summer classes but I'd love to do that haha. This weekend is no good for me as I'm coming home on Saturday so I'll be too late, but in time I'm sure we could work some deals out. =)

kevin goes hard even when he's at the beach lol.
LOOOOOL

kevin goes hard, even when he's doing no brainers like ordering chicken selects from mcdonalds
DJ just say what you feel baby

I don't always go hard on those selects though. They priy gud though.

Edit: Stongers Twitch and I just LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL'd at that

despite the accusations otherwise I still do care about this game and the community so I'm going to answer.

I still play the game because I still enjoy it, and I still am involved in the community because I still love you all.

I play Melee because it's really fun for me and I'm good at it now. It's a great way for me to help others and do something I enjoy. I learn more about people through this game and community and get to travel to places I might not get to see otherwise. Smash is a different world with different people that I probably never would have gotten to experience, so I'm going to get as much understanding and different perspective out of it as I possibly can.

The community is really fun and they're good people at heart. I've seen people come together for each other that have met through this game in ways that I haven't seen others do that live much closer in this sucky town I grew up in. That's something worth staying with in my opinion, if for no other reason.

This is leaving out everything that this game and community have already done for me, which is irreplaceable.
