Alright: I Just Completed Insanity The Asylum today and took my before and after pics so i can get the free T-shirt.
for a 30 day program, the results a saw took me by surprise. It is one hell of an effective program. I have done P90X and Insanity, and i have to say that asylum was probably my favorite workout routine I have done yet. I love the progression and how shaun T explains to you that each move correlates to a certain sport. He is also extremely motivating, much more so than Insanity.
But without further stall, This is my transformation Pic. The first Pic was taken on day 60 of Insanity so it is my post insanity and Pre Asylum Pic. I gained a bit of mass.

I think this is what I want my new routine to be:
M: Chest/Biceps, light cardio in evening
Tu: Legs/Core
W: Cardio
Th: Shoulders/Triceps
F: Legs/Back, light cardio in evening

Today was:
Flat bench - 100lb bb 3x8
Flyes - 30lb dbs 3x8
Flat bench - 100lb bb 2x8
Curls - 45lb bb 3x10
Pullups - bw 3x5
Curls - 30lb dbs 3x8
stretch, whey shake

I wanted the second set of bench to be incline but I lost the peg that locks my bench into position :( when I start going to a real gym I want more variety but instead I'm just pushing hard with my home stuff. I actually failed the 8th rep of the last bench set and had to tip it over off my chest :129:

Is HITT running suppose to increase the range of my standard running? When I finish HITT, I run abit and my legs feel like they've increased distance. The good news is now my body isn't sore as when I first started it but my left foot does ache abit.

Range as in how far you can run without getting tired? Possibly. I mean, it's a heavy exercise in terms of cardio. It can have benefits in terms of overall speed as well.

my understanding is that the best way to improve distance running is running longer distances. but just getting in better shape overall will help some so you can't go wrong with hiit.

legz day

back squat - 100lbs 3x8
leg curl - "30 lb" 1x8 | "40 lb" 2x8
calf raise - stairs bw 3x20
lunges - bw 25x2
situps 2x20
plank - 2x15sec (oh god it hurts)
stretches/whey shake

despite a lack of cage, I was determined to do back squats today so I cleaned and jerked my barbell up and lowered it into position, then dropped it after the set. Since I didn't want to drop my ghetto concrete weights on a floor, I took them outside and enjoyed lifting outside in the beautiful brisk weather :yeahboi:

edit: btw bazz, lookin good, what's your outlook from here on out looking like? gonna stay on asylum?

How does a super insecure person like me enter the gym without feeling embarrassed?

I'm pretty clueless about workouts and stuff like that. I dont really have friends that are knowledgeable in stuff like this.

Go with a friend anyway. Make sure the other guy goes. Hold each other accountable.

I like to watch videos on youtube and use my free JEFIT app on my iPhone to give tips on what workouts I should do and how to do them.

To be honest just go for it. If you go to a gym I'm sure there would be trainers or other people their to give you advice. I can not tell you how many times people come up to me to give me their two cents on how they like to do exercises. One guy will come up to me and say "bend like this" and then another guy will be like "bend like that" then another guys will be like "lift lighter...." and another guy will be like "LIFT HEAVIER!!!!!"

It was funny, I went to the grocery store after the gym one day and a guy working out next to me showed up there after me and wanted to give me advice on how he lifts. >_<

The only real way to fail is to not start at all.

First and foremost, you should not be embarrassed to go to the gym. Everyone is there to improve themselves. As someone who was not in shape the first time I walked into a gym (crazy, I know), I can now say with certainty that if I see a fat dude/lady at the gym, no matter WHAT they're doing, they have my ****ing respect. Because I know the hardest part about going to the gym is showing up. And I have a bunch of ****ty friends too, who make excuses and put it off, and I've had to go by myself 95% of the time. And those people are the ones who remain out of shape the rest of their lives. You? You're the one trying to improve yourself, and the gym is where that happens.

And I guarantee you that anyone who looks down on you for showing up to the gym would also make fun of you walking down the street, so if you're truly worried about that, your only option is to get in shape and shut them up for good. If you're worried about a lack of knowledge, most gyms have affordable (or free with membership) personal training options where they can at least get you started. You can find a lot of basic routines online, too. It's not super complicated - you pick stuff up and put it down. Showing up is the hardest part. Now get out there and get fit :067:

Just remember that everyone started like you at some point. No one is going to laugh at you either. Most people are too busy minding their own business.

on the other hand, if youre insecure because youre skinny and weak, then i know that feel bro. i havent gone to an actual gym in a long time because i'm a broke-*** college student, but when i did used to go, i went with two friends who both lifted much more than i did. yeah you feel a bit silly, but that feeling quickly goes away after you pump some iron. mid-workout you'll start to forget about how small you are and start to visualize yourself getting bigger. and post-workout you'll feel tired, triumphant, and oh so slightly stronger than when you walked into the place.

basically, your biggest obstacle is yourself. once you learn to stop caring about what others think (and i could write pages about how truly insignificant others' thoughts about you are), then you'll be free to do whatever you want. and that applies to life in general, not just bodybuilding.

Sorry for the late reply, I've been at class this whole day. Thanks to everybody for responding and writing such long writeups - I really appreciate it!

It's strange because I tell people all the time not to worry about how others see them but I can't take my own advice. I'm super going to try and muster up the courage to go to the gym tomorrow thanks to you guys.

I'm kind of insecure because of my weight (about 20lbs overweight) and acne which have plagued me since forever. I've also suffered from depression in the past which equals one scared, 5'6 Asian boy.

I promise I'm fat. It's just the angle and stuff!

Vancouver is pretty awesome, especially if you're into Asian stuff! We also have major competition between two gym franchises here, so I pay $15 a month (which is cheap imo, not sure what they cost down south :p). A typical gym membership was around $40 before this competition.

Only bad thing is that housing is super expensive here.

You're skinny body type wise. So unless you had your body fat checked, and it's rather high (25% or more), I see no reason to call yourself fat.

Now if you want to call yourself lazy, out of shape, or something like that...that's another story.

What function do protein supplements have? I walk past the campus parking lot at times and I see guys with tons of different "protein-powder-like" products in their trunk. o.o

Helps get protein if you have trouble obtaining it by natural means. Also, some are designed to work rather fast after a workout, meaning when your muscles are in their most immediate repair stage, that protein hits hard and fast.

If you're gonna buy protein, stick to Amazon. Much cheaper.

I got my protein from Walmart at fifteen dollars for two ounces. It's the body fortress brand. It tastes good, and I feel that it's getting the job done thus far.

Yeah, just depends on the quality of protein you want. I paid 40 dollars for a 30 serving ON recovery protein. Geared towards post workouts, and the idea is to not leave you as sore. I must say, it does do its job.

Today was just basketball day. Shot hoops in various different spots for an hour. Then finished it off with some drills ranging from wall marches to box jumps.

Hmm, I know Im a bit late, but this is interesting... Im down. I've been meaning to get in better shape, I used to be a jock, Rowing, wrestling, Soccer, baseball, football etc. I stopped after high school(Except Soccer) so now I've fallen off the path quite a bit.

Im 6ft 209. I look built, I get asked if I work out all the time, but Im not happy by any means with my body other then my shoulders(I guess)

shoulders/tris:

seated shoulder press - 30 lb dbs 3x8
upright row - 70lb bb 3x8
standing military press - 70lb bb 3x8
shoulder raises - 8lb plate in each hand, 3x10 alternating front/side
close-grip bench - 90lb bb 3x8
dips - bw 3x8
stretch'n'whey

Wish I did a little more triceps isolation but my equipment sucks for that. I'll do another weigh in tomorrow after legs+back but I'm guessing it'll go up cause of creatine/whey. But I'm definitely eating WAY better so I wont really care.

I start day 15 of Insanity tomorrow, I have skipped weekends and a few other days due to family or boyfriend, but I have definently felt and seen a difference in the way I sleep and the energy I have.
I love it.

Urgh, lunges are like one of my least enjoyed exercises. All of them. Had a trainer who'd make me do lunge jumps every session. -______-;
