Thats too soon after WHOBO for me, but when is the next big event in LA going forward for BR or NO? I'd be interested in attending.

Really Taylor? People won't pay $10 for a tournament? Maybe I'm weird, but to me higher entry (to a reasonable limit) has always meant higher level of competition and thus more appealing.

That said, I came up as a smasher going to florida tournaments which were routinely $15-20 entry, so maybe I'm biased. $10 a head doesn't seem unreasonable at all though, particularly if by doing to you can entice people like rice or good texas people to make the trip over.

trust me i would go. tim and freddy would go. but you're turning a 6-10 man monthly into a 3 man tournament. smashcon and the shrimp are a little different. i think we could get away with 10$ tournaments 3 times a year. but even then you're going to lose a few players. the community is poor. they dont want to play money to lose to the same players they lose to all the time. and with smashcon's venue fee, you'd be asking 20$ just to enter melee singles if you raised the price of the actual tournament. unless some OOS players came i dont think anyone would enter. we've been lucky with both the summercon and wintercon to have some oos players attend.

Oh yeah, we've got some new smashers in Ruston. One that Gunner knows: Moses; Smashboards name: Big Mara, he plays . Another guy named James who plays . And another guy named Collin who plays . I'm trying to get them to come to Who's Tyler.

Just for the record, we haven't had a "smashcon venue fee" for local events in forever, only winter and summercon have the venue fee. Voodoo Smash has never had a venue fee, and it never will. If I raised the price of entering melee to $10, the total amount of money melee players would pay for the event total is $10 (assuming melee is the only event they enter). I'd like to get some more input from the other melee players before I make my final decision. Just to be clear, I'm only asking if it's ok to raise the price of entering melee to $10 because I wanted to see how many of you melee players wanted to compete for more money. This is also going to be the last Voodoo Smash until Smash 4 comes out, so I'd like to try and make this the biggest one yet.

I just want to see a lot of people from BR show up for Voodoo since a lot of people seem to have moved out there this past year, so to me, there's no reason why I should have a really good turnout. Like I mentioned before, if I don't really get much response to this idea, I'll just keep the price at $5, not a big deal. All I can really ask is that people show up and bring set-ups.

In case anyone cares:

Who's Tyler 6 was a good experience. I made the trip up with JNig with no problems at all. We stayed at Okuser's place (thanks again for housing) and played a bit of Brawl with him and gunner before going to sleep for the tournament the next day.

Saturday, we wake up and get ready. Brawlman showed up either really early in the morning or that morning, I don't remember which. Ramsaur and Eman also joined us, and the five of us went to the venue. It was a decent sized room on the side of the library with plenty of chairs and space for setups. We ate there and signed up for events.

This was the one problem of the event: The bracket. Literally all of LA and Brawlman were on the same side of the bracket, and some of us met as early as round 2 (JNig vs Me and Gunner vs. Bman were both round 2 winner's matches >_<) I lost to Jnig which got me mad salty for two reasons: 1 because I could've done better and 2 because we played round 2 at an out of state tourney. I was pretty bummed and I just watched other matches after that. I won...1 or 2 more sets after that and then sat to watch the rest of the tourney play out.

Fortunately, low tier doubles still happened later in the day. Brawlman and I teamed, and we actually ended up winning. I should feel great, but of course I'm mad at myself for not doing my best. My team play was extremely sloppy. I hit Brawlman so many times that I lost count, and I was sick of myself. We still managed to clutch it out though, and I think I'm going to try to make WHOBO 5 solely for the low and mid tier events. I haven't been doing well in regular singles for a while, so I doubt I'm entering the main event.

Overall: Good experience, but I should've done better. I think I've figured out that I need to warm up and stay warm during the event. I felt great after doing some friendlies before bracket began, but I sat around for too long between then and my first match that I felt cold again. I'm not making that mistake again.

Hello Louisiana!

Austin is hosting a huge 2-day Melee tournament from December 21-22. I wanted to invite you guys myself to come! TaylorHJ, Freddie... whoever else. Looking at you guys. OoS players will get priority housing of course. This tourney is featuring a $330+ pot bonus that will increase via donating half the pot at Austin locals all the way up until the event. We're hoping to have about $500 by the time the tourney rolls around. It would be really awesome if Louisiana could put together a carpool and make it out here! It's a little close to Christmas, but there is an entire day to drive back to Lousiana and recover. Then you'll be right there with family to spend Christmas Eve together. I'd think Curlz's event would get more attendants than Get Hype, only because the North LA group has more people who can actually travel to events. I don't see really anyone from BR traveling to either event. Though you never know. People surprise you.

There's a tourney at PnT? News to me lol. I haven't been to the Gaming Club yet, since I've had tests and senior projects killing me the past few weeks. I know they meet up Mondays at 6, but it's just finding the time to go that has been the problem.
