I don't see a connection beyond stats. Some people are definitely clinging onto Polarpanda's vaguely reliable Microsoft source (like me) and that weird first letter theory. (Jack and Joker both start with J and Pakku and Piranha. So Brave and Banjo? Yeah, it's a stretch.) Other than that, since we officially have proof that two Ultimate characters have had their stats changed, it's hard to believe Banjo is Brave beyond the possibility that Banjo might be in
Oh I see. Yeah, saying it's Banjo because they start with a B is ridiculous. Bandana Dee also starts with a B, so that means it's Bandana Dee too! lol that makes no sense. Anyway, thanks for clearing that up

I don't understand how people think Brave means Banjo. Am I missing something here? I know the floatiness could be similar to Banjo and Kazooie, but what does Brave have to do with them?
Some people want to see what they want. Brave being banjo started quite a while ago, like maybe being a play on 'rare' or something, i dont remember how it started, but I kinda just let them have their comforting ideas. I dont expect banjo at all, personally. I see people thinking microsoft is necessarily going to be involved with smash, and I dont really agree, but when there's rumors floating around people get all sorts of ideas.

I'm glad the people here on Smashboards don't treat me like some of the people on Twitter. No offense towards the Smash community, but some people in it can be pretty toxic. Sorry if it looks messy, I was trying to make sure I censored his name and that inappropriate word. lol.

Miku Maekawa? You mean @CompaKonpa? That's me, but I didn't make that art. I found it here: https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/3480860?q=roto
Oh oof. Well you have great taste in art haha.

I just need the next reveal already lol

And I'm sorry to see that. I was in something similar. Guy pulled the opinion card like that should invalidate ours.

This is late, but I honestly shouldn't have to ask "please" to make sure a drawing is properly credited to the correct person.

Imagine if you wrote an essay for a website and people shared it all over the internet without crediting you. You worked hard on it and felt it could open the door for more opportunities since more websites might notice you and get you hired. It should be a given that people credit you, and you shouldn't have to say "please" to make sure people do it.

Anyway, I'm glad we found out who the artist was (taniya raku) . Their danbooru page is gorgeous.

It's normal for people to have their own preferences. Kinda expected to trigger people if you say it like that tho :p
(guessing they were either a banjo or sora fan)

Yeah, people see what they want to see and draw conclusions based on what they like. I don't expect Banjo either because he's not relevant anymore. He makes more sense in the base game, for the fans. They want DLC to sell, and so they'll need to use characters from series that are "hot" with the kids and what not, which is why I think Steve makes more sense for DLC than Banjo. Of course, we may not even get a Microsoft rep, like you said. And who knows, we may not even get a Square rep, despite what Vergeben has said. Even though Erdrick is my most wanted, I'm not 100% convinced he's gonna get in. However, I do think he's more likely than any other Square rep. Well, the Luminary from DQXI might be just as likely as Erdrick. But even still, we may not get anything from Square, so who knows? I think it's important to remain skeptical with your most wanted character and who you consider most likely.

Apparently, Joker used Cloud as a base. Not Mii Sword Fighter as some had speculated due to the Mii Swordfighter/Duck Hunt glitch.

https://twitter.com/RobbyB3ll4s/status/1119302190600990720

The speculation now is that Mii Swordfighter is being used as a base for Erdrick and Duck Hunt is being used as a base for Banjo-Kazooie.
https://twitter.com/RobbyB3ll4s/status/1119357461868285957

Nevermind, it's likely false information. Sorry about that.

You're wrong UberPyro64, Robby's right. Joker uses Cloud as a base. For example, Joker shares the same animation filenames (EX: speciallwstart) with Cloud.

But the thing is, I did credit the artist in my Twitter post where I shared the photo. Here's the link to my twitter post: https://twitter.com/CompaKonpa/status/1119020874785488897
I put the source right there in the tweet. I've been doing my best to include the source of the fan art that I share on Twitter.

I wasn't referring to you! It was NomadLuminary, he mistakenly attributed the art to you then made a cheeky reply saying I should have asked "please".

But I just wanna sweep this issue under the rug now. No hard feelings Nomad.

I'll just be frank, since I want to state my piece too. People post stuff all the time and it's easy to forget about the credit. So I'll say that while I get where you're coming from, I only acted cheeky because I personally felt you were being rude with the request. But like you said no hard feelings and I should just be more aware next time around.

I agree with this statement. Although I don't like telling people their pick is unlikely as it brings people down. Then again false hope is just as bad.

Yeah it brings people down, but sometimes being brutally honest is what's needed to keep people from getting their hopes crushed when reality hits and our four DLC characters end up being characters people weren't expecting (Etrian Odyssey or Rune Factory, for example)

Oh yeah I agree. I think the best way to position a character would be a realistic expectation. Not a shot in the dark like say a visual novel character from the early 80s.

Like Ayumi Tachibana, the visual novel girl from the 80s that was a trophy in Melee

Wow, thanks for stomping on my dreams of Ayumi Tachibana making it into Smash as DLC :demon::bluejump:

Just kidding (edit: wow, Kuon). Though speaking of visual novel characters from the early 80s, The Portopia Serial Murder Case is coincidentally a super influential game in Japan, made by Spike Chunsoft who was contracted the work by, you guessed it, Enix. I wonder if we'd somehow get any Mii costumes based on that game if Erdrick gets in.

Huh, interesting. That would be cool, but it'll probably be DQ protags, like maybe the one from DQXI or DQVIII or something. I'm sure there are probably more popular protags than those two, but those are the ones I know the most.

Edit: Okay, I really only know the DQXI protag, since that's the only DQ game I've ever played.

I'd love other DQ costumes too. But I brought up that game because when Cloud was included in Smash 4, we technically got a costume from a non Final Fantasy game with Geno. So the possibility of another Enix-developed well-known game getting a Mii costume came up in my mind right then and there.

I actually never played it so my comment was probably in poor taste :p. Anyways though, if we want to pick a rep for DQ that isnt a slime, i still think Erdrick and Luminary have the best chances (I'd win either way since there my favorite protags)

I'd like a costume based on the DQ5 protagonist, Madason. They'd be a Swordfighter costume that uses his wooden staff instead of a sword, despite Madason primarily wielding swords and whips.

This is probably a spoiler for Dragon Quest XI, so I'll put the spoiler tag here
Since the Luminary obtains the title of Erdrick in that game, what if we're hoping for the Erdrick from DQIII, but it turns out to be the Erdrick (Luminary) from DQXI?

That was actually an argument I had a while back. I'd be fine with either or (as I should since it's part of my name). Both represent two different things but are still poignant nonetheless. Dragon Quest 3's Erdrick represents the 'boom' of the franchise, while Dragon Quest 11's Erdrick represents the celebration of the series period. That and it also represents a Dragon Quest that might actually get recognized in the west (not to say 8 wasn't but I'm noticing more promotion with 11). But I'd be down with either or.

The short version is: that's definitely a spoiler, so no.

It's the very last thing that happens in the game before the credits roll, and Square Enix has been aggressively blocking people from streaming that portion of the game, resulting in some pretty absurd workarounds. If they care that much, they're not gonna give it away in some other game.

This reasoning makes a lot of sense actually.

Bringing in big crowds should be a priority in DLC. Probably, preferably, (but not necessarily limited to) having strong foundations with Nintendo even if the series “moved out” to other consoles.

Personally I don’t care about Banjo, but I know many people do. Not going to rain on their parade, but I like Battletoads so much more to rep Microsoft (and heck, they’re green like Xbox, just like Sonic is blue for Sega and Mario red for Nintendo).
But if anything, they might want to go for Steve, and I’ll be ok with that. Never played Minecraft, but if that had been available when I was younger, I would’ve been obsessed by it.

... I was (and kind of still am) obsessed over the classic Doom games though, so maybe I can see a bit of what Steve fans see (minus the blood&gore)

This guy drew female Erdrick with her party? Looks like it roughly translates to 'adventure journey', according to the ever so reliable Google translate.

I believe so, he/she has roughs of this piece in his twitter as well.

EDIT: According to Pixiv, it looks to be from Ichi

What did you guys think about a DQ Item? Persona didn't get one, but I think that's still not totally off the table.
I think of a Chest, it would function similar to the Party Ball having a opening animation and spewing itens, but you can only grab it from behind(from the front it open), would hit harder and is heavier then Party Ball. Can some come with a Mini Medal and just giving a extra coin after the battle(or be wild and it been super rare and giving a extra stock/point) and some been a Cannibox and acting similar to a slow and bigger Klaptrap.

Edit: This dude ↓ probably inspired the Morphing Jar from Yu-Gi-Oh.

I'd love that, a cannibox would be so cool. And it just one shots you if you're in high percent.

I thought of a cursed item. Demon Axe or something, that gives the wielder great power (hits like a Doriyah!) at the cost of something random:

- Take way more damage
- Gradually rack up damage
- Randomly freezes user.
- Randomly trips user
- Causes user to walk/run as if surface was sticky / slippery
Etc

And you can’t throw the item. You can only get rid of it once you lose a stock.

I just remembered this but in the latest entry in the Etrian Odyssey series on 3ds this is their hero class this reminded me so much of Erdrick when they dropped trailers showing of this class and it just shows how much of an influence he's had on JRPGs as a whole also check this series out it's really good and the music is great here is a sample
and this is how they describe the class "Determined warriors of sword and shield. They not only aid the party, but deliver raging blows seemingly beyond a normal person's capabilities" there only available in Nexus but I think it just goes to show how much Erdrick is remembered over there
PLEASE CHECK OUT THE SERIES IT'S AMAZING if you like the Streets Of Rage OST then you'll love this :psycho::demon:
also also if Erdrick drops we all have to fight eachother

Hey guys does anyone here have a good conceptualization of erdricks moveset? I get a lot bashing from my friends that he’s just a re skinned robin magical swordsman. I admit they haven’t played a lot of dragon quest so what exactly could Erdrick do with his moveset that no other fighter has?

In the OP (near the bottom) we have a bunch of stuff regarding his potential moveset, but the general idea is using a large variety of weapons and magic, as well as the possibility for a unique mechanic such as Tension.

I guess Robin and Erdrick are superficially similar, but I doubt they'd have much in common. I can't imagine any of their specials being much alike (maybe Erdrick could also get a chargeable projectile), and Erdrick probably wouldn't have anything like Robin's durability system. Link is probably closer to the mark.

Joker working the way he does makes me think it's pretty likely Erdrick would end up with some kind of character-defining gimmick too, be it tension or pep or party members or monsters or a magic menu. I'm sure he'd be unique enough, though probably to the detriment of my ability to actually play him.

Now that I think about it, it's very possible Erdrick may not get tension/pep at all. If Joker already has a guage, it's possible he would want to change it up. That or make tension/pep up similar to Lucario.

I'd love to fight everyone here....to the death :p

Yes, when I thought about joker's gauge, I dont feel like they would want to repeat yet another similar concept. Or maybe it doesnt matter, if they do it different again :p But I still think it'd be likely to be something else.

And yes if erdrick gets in you can bet i'll play with you guys :)

My idea for Tension is that it can be charged to multiple intervals, then applied automatically to the next move you use. Just like in DQ8, and not really like any other character's gimmicks.
