Here's a bit of news for now; apparently Dragon Quest Heroes 1+2 for Switch has a posting at Gamestop.
Hopefully this pans out into something, they're both already fully localized so I don't see why they haven't done it sooner lol
YES!!!

I wanted to bypass the lack of localization by buying it from Japanese eshop, but they didn’t kept their word that they’d include English text.

So I would be really happy if this is true. (As happy as not having to fork over $90 for it)

As to what I’m doing to pass the time:

In no particular priority:
Smash
Shining Force (genesis mobile port)
SEGA heroes (mobile)
Zelda II (NES Switch in-line service)
Zelda BOTW
(Lack of DQ is due to me temporarily changing to iOS)

And playing with my son.
Finishing up Dragon Quest, Abel no Yuusha

The theory I've seen floating around is that the expense of the 32GB game card put them off. Plus the port is notoriously lousy, so it might've seemed like a losing proposition, even with the localization already done (mostly; they'd have to find somebody to voice Ragnar). I guess maybe they finally decided it was worth it as part of a big marketing push?

It seems sketchy to me, and I swear I've seen this story with Heroes 1+2 multiple times. I certainly wouldn't object, though I'm not that interested in playing them again myself.

They could just do it digital only if cartridges are the issue. Would be disappointing but certainly better than nothing. Are they not good ports though? I've heard that the full release at least improved on the demo.

It'd be strange for Gamestop to have a listing for an eShop only game. Uh, wouldn't it? I'll confess I haven't been in a game store in a long while; I don't know if they'd have any reason to be involved in digital-only stuff beyond selling funbucks cards.

...aha! This has happened before! I knew I wasn't crazy.

Gamestop does sell eshop codes so I dont think it would be out of the question. Aside that I think that localizing it is on the minds of SE but they're hesitant to move forward with it.

If there is, I'm not finding it without really going out of my way. If you can find his Japanese name, maybe you could stumble upon its image on google images.
Tried that but didn't have luck with it.
Here, グラアエスターク, maybe you guys can find.

Can I just say one of my favorite things to do on the internet is go the monster lists section of the Dragon Quest wiki and just page through the monsters?
Growing up, there was nothing more fascinating than scrolling through the Dragon Quest Monster Joker 2 guide and looking at all of the big monsters you could make. Shout outs to Sagittar and Canzar. Another Monsters series title would be great if it were localized.

With the next Monsters game starring Erik and Mia and almost certainly coming to Switch, I'm pretty confident that we'll actually get it this time.

I wonder if Gyldygga will be recruitable, given... y'know. She's probably my favourite monster from XI, tied with Skeletor Tyriant, so I hope they just go for it.

The monsters are a big part of Dragon Quest's appeal to me. Pokémon's the only other big RPG that even approaches the quality of DQ's monster designs; nothing else comes close. Maybe Megami Tensei.

About Dragon Quest
- Dragon Quest is the pioneer of the console RPG model. Not the first, but the equivalent of what Street Fighter was for the next fight games. He inspired Final Fantasy, Pokemon (Dragon Quest V in 1992 giving the possibility to recruit monsters). Slime inspired the same enemy in Zelda 3 and subsequent opuses.
- Dragon Quest is considered to be part of the Nintendo family. Most games in the series (including Monsters) are on Nintendo consoles. Slime also appeared in three Mario games : Itadaki Street DS, Mario Sports Mix and Fortune Street, as well as in Miitopia. The series is even entitled to a specific logo version when the game is released by Nintendo, which is not done with any other outside license.
- The Dragon Quest series has already sold 76 million units.

According to Famitsū
- Dragon Quest III is the second favorite game in Japan (just after Persona 5).
- 12 games of the license are among the favorite games in Japan.
- Dragon Quest IX and XI got a perfect score. With DQ IV, they were recognized as the Games of the Year by the Famitsū Awards.
- Dragon Quest VII and Dragon Quest Heroes II got a 39/40 scores.
Just for add a new information. In favor of Erdrick,
- Dragon Quest IX is the 12th position of the best-selling games in Japan. Dragon Quest VII 16th. Dragon Quest III 23rd. Dragon Quest VIII 25th.

Also, even with the great majority of it's revenue coming from just Japan, is the second most profitable Square Enix's franchise, losing only to Final Fantasy.
The now SE Europe's franchise Tomb Raider, having years of worldwide released, movie, etc, just come a bit closer to DQ recently.
Kingdom Hearts have less then half of DQ total incomes.
Gex, SaGa, of Mana Series and Chrono Series are on the last portion of the list.

Other topic:
Anyone watched the Yuusha Yoshihiko/The Brave Yoshihiko series?

So, I think that the shield size stat for brave that was pointed out is pretty cool to see, because it at least points out a contradiction between it and the height stat. One of those is placeholder, and considering what we've seen with joker's height stat, I think it's likely that they dont finalize that until they've got all the models done.
:)

Boy, I'm sure glad all this discussion of the datamines turned out to be productive and not a giant tail-chase. I guess it'll be interesting to look at the data in hindsight once we've seen Joker and Brave in action.

You guys are excited for that Pokémon Direct too?
I'm hopeful. There's a lot about Pokémon that I wish was handled differently, but even a bad main-series Pokémon is still pretty good.

Give us new evolutions again, cowards. And babies, I still want my Miltank/Tauros calf.

Yup seeing a bit more even just of joker can tell us something. Besides just finally seeing joker gameplay which'll be cool. (in march hopefully)

I probably wont watch the pokemon direct live, but i will if they announce new pokemon :) That's mostly what wouldbe exciting for me.

I’ll watch the uploaded version most likely. Not big on Pokémon anymore. I have a soft spot for it, but playing as Pokémon Trainer is how I show the series love now.

I don’t think there’s any way they can win me back, unless they release some sort of adapter that links to DS/3DS and allows me to bring my whole roster from White 2.

By the time we see Joker gameplay we will also probably know who Brave is
A new reveal seems likely and, going by the info last direct, its likely that some new features are to be announced as well.

Gotta keep my complete living Pokedex complete!

I hope the Grass starter becomes Grass/Dark this time so I can complete my Dark starter trinity.

Like usual I'm gonna be looking at the evolutions to decide. I rarely go blind into pokemon now. overall seems like a good looking game :)

Always.

I also usually end up picking the 6 Pokemon I plan to use as my mains for each game before I start playing. Based entirely on "What looks cool, and what's going to give me the most type coverage."

Me too, though i usually have about a dozen and maybe stick with those i like most after playing with all of them. Especially true if i dont look at the stats.
Eventually i might also like the competitive scene, which means using even more, but i find that can be a lot of work.

Well... a really beautiful region with a more open world then Gen VI and Gen VII, nice graphics with interesting battle effects, all the good stuff for VI/VII stills, Wild Battles are back, probably a Football(it's UK based xD) mode with some potential and I like a lot the Fire Starter and the version names. I'm pleased.

The Fire Starter is a rabbit.

It's official. Game Freak has noticed the Zodiac theory and is rolling with it.

He looks like inspired in a Soccer/Football player so it have more chance to be Ground, Flying, Rock or maybe Steel(the spikes on the shoe) or Electric(Inazuma Eleven like stuff), more then Fighting.

Well, he indeed have spark in his Japanese name. Hibuny(Hibanii, ヒバニー), is made from Fire(Hi, 火) and Bunny, but it's also a pun in Spark(Hibana, 火花).
