- I like JCing my grab out of SSs because you cover so much more space with it.
I usually do do this because you get the most distance out of it. It's the best way to 'hydrograb'. If you ever saw me not do this, it was probably a mistake. The same can't be said of my hydro-usmashes. Sometimes I will actually purposefully just usmash in place after a SS (I got him with a KO once like this during the vs Diddy vid).

- OMG, the part where you WGed the grenade back at him was awesome. I might have to try that against projectiles in general to see what it messes with.
Yeah, I got him with this both of the two times I tried it during that match, so it just might be reliable. :awesome: If you want to see some of the possible potential of WG, watch this vid about a related move. I've experienced firsthand that most of it still applies:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?annot...&feature=iv&src_vid=l40aXiVBvxg&v=qQfKZ-FYUHs
The final hitlag portion also still works for Squirt's WG, I believe, because it seems like Squirtle can move before the water disappears from a fully-charged WG, and I have actually been able to punish laggier moves from an opponent by WG'ing them during them.

- You don't go for actual SS hits too often. Maybe just try mixing some in when you see an opportunity for it. I find it especially useful for KOing with usmash because you can hit confirm super easily, and that way you can stay really safe when fishing for a KO.
You're probably right. I used to preach about the awesomeness of SS because I would use it to hit-confirm into a pivot JC grab on spacees, but nowadays I'm just too scared to get that close to the opponent. I will try to go for more SS hits again and I will also try that SS > usmash you mention. :)

This was a lot of really good advice. I will take it to heart and try to improve. Thanks a bunch, Bones! :)

Yeah, hitting with SS is definitely not something you should be relying on, but it has some key scenarios where it is really safe as well as effective. One thing I found out early on is that you can run through someone as they land with a tech (or missed tech), and you can punish every option by SSing their furthest tech option and hydroplaning a grab or attack back in the other direction on reaction if they do something else.

Traffic (Squirtle) vs Breez (ZSS) 4/15/13 friendlies

edit- new link to highlighted matches.

These were a few of my early matches during our 14 hour stream yesterday, against my roommate.

Things of note-

No johns, this guy beats me most of the time, and has much more experience than I do. I don't think I win any of those matches. I'll try and get more of my general squirtle play together and a few videos of any highlighted areas if discussion warrants.

Yeah, side b canceling takes a lot of hard time to get used to, i spent 1-2 weeks where I barely did anything else. On a really strange note, I had a dream the other night that I came to the states and I beat you (Oracle) in GF with squirtle. I could not possibly begin to explain how weird I feel right now.

I'm a fan of the footstooling, myself. That jump extension on Yoshi's? Flawless. Beautiful gameplay, Reflex.

Won the first P:M tourney I've ever entered (8 whole people! lol). :awesome:
My inexperience with the game definitely shows itself in my inconsistency, but I did some cool stuff on occasion. I actually planned on just going all Falco so switching to Squirtle and being able to win back to back sets vs. the person who knocked me into losers was a pleasant surprise.

Great matches! There's a ton of stuff I'm looking forward to stealing from you. lol I think you're the only other Squirtle I've seen actually utilizing shellshifting for the attack so that was refreshing. I noticed you tend to ftilt out of SS, but you should give utilt a try. It leads into a lot better punishes, and I think your vertical uair combos and KO game (usmash/waterfall) were lacking in general. I kill off the top pretty often, and it is much more reliable than tapping them off the side a million times. You're getting in so often so if your punishes are more consistent with less random jabs, tilts, and dash attacks, you should have a much easier time KOing. You could also make sure you do late SH bubbles when edgeguarding people (especially Marth) instead of bubbling at the peak of your SH and whiffing. You can just face away and then reverse into it if you're worried about getting hit by their up-B. Just some food for thought.

Does Squirtle's nair go through any part of Marth's up-b?

EDIT:
That was a dumb question, it's KB armor so I'm guessing the answer is "it depends". Nice videos though, I'll post more of my thoughts on them a bit later.

Yes, it goes through any part after the initial swing I think. We tested it in one of the games because Zwarm didn't know how to edgeguard Marth upB and I said maybe try ledgehop nair. Sorry most of the games are kinda lowish play quality, we were basically just talking the whole time lol.

Let me also preface this by saying I was playing terribly looking back, like what was I even doing. I didn't reverse slingshot to hit him offstage like, ever. I only tried to dtilt out of bubble when I couldve grabbed or other stuff. I guess this is what my auto pilot Squirtle looks like /johns

Also, I was trying out a lot of new stuff, and none of it really worked consistently. Oro2gud

Basically I'm better than this, and I will have better videos soon :)

Why does no one here use the pivot shell sling shot thing... (don't know what it's called)

But when you are running, you flick the control stick in the opposite direction and then back in the normal direction really fast, and then jump and it gives you a redic amount of aerial momentum...

I saw reflex use it a couple times, but that's it. Utilize that **** man!!!

EDIT: Just saw Reflex's demonstration vid on it hahahahaha

Uh, I use the slingshot a lot. It might not be in the specific match of mine you watched, but its definitely something I'm thinking about while I play and I'm certain that I do it in some of those videos I posted.

A C.falc speed run jump is obviously too good of an ability to ignore.

Lots of times that I need the momentum for a follow up I don't got the time to perform it. It also might be useful to slingshot the water gun charge animation, and then cancel it and perform the aerial you want to get more distance from I believe the charge animation carrying momentum better.

I use it all the time. I don't think I use it much against Marth though, because there's no really appropriate time where you should be approaching Marth that quickly.

I mainly use it to chase offstage anyway. I'll have more videos up soon, I'm sure I use it in them quite often, but I guess I'll have to double check that.

I'm pretty sure I was the only Squirtle there that had no secondaries XD

Yeah, I didn't get a chance to play with any of the Squirtles that were there, unfortunately. I played some friendlies with cmart, but he went Bowser :<

Some more TBH3 footage -
vs. Asylum :falco: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qp3UHiytkCo (fun fact, my jump button didn't work at all my entire first stock, that's what the pause was for.)

Doubles teaming with Kappy :metaknight:
vs. Yakal and Rusty Shackleford http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tghLfx6SkSk

vs. Oro and Oracle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jy7Nk3mPbA

Squirtle/Metaknight is a stupid good team, btw. Kappy was my old Brawl partner back in the day, but we literally never practiced this team together, and we got 9th. I think Squirtle is definitely one of the better teams characters, and Metaknight is well, Metaknight

Was a lot of fun playing/meeting both Burnsey and Zwarm. You guys are solid - sorry I didn't go Squirt in bracket but I'd be fooling myself if I didn't trust in my main (Bowser).

Nah, I understand. I wouldn't trust myself to go anyone but Squirtle at this point, even though I have a few secondaries.
