My most wanted Nintendo characters are Dixie Kong and another Zelda character (Skull Kid is my most wanted from the series, but Midna or Impa would be cool too).

I will reiterate what I stated in post #998 at page 25, even though we don’t want Nintendo characters forgotten, we must show nobility in our movement. I respect others’ opinions, whether you support first party or third party.

We all cling to our own opinions and biases (it’s human nature), but this thread was never meant to undermine non-Nintendo characters. It’s showing support for additional Nintendo characters for DLC because we don’t want them to be left by the wayside.

I get why they add third party characters from time to time, to make fans outside the Nintendo fanbase to buy a Switch console. I’m all for the concept, but like I said, I don’t want Nintendo characters to be forgotten. Give first party and third party characters equal treatment.

For the record, I am not just a fan of Nintendo games, but all video games in general. I have played games from Nintendo, to Sega, to PlayStation, to XBox. I’ve played many different kinds of series (Halo, Spyro, Metal Gear Solid, etc). I love video games, it’s my life. Just because I think some certain Nintendo characters would fit the best in Ultimate doesn’t mean I have anything against non-Nintendo characters. I stated in post #1132 at page 29 that many third party characters are debatable (you can make a good case for them). Specifically speaking, that includes the characters in this fighter’s pass (Banjo & Kazooie in particular has been one of my most wanted third party characters).

I stand by what I said in terms of the pandora box being opened. I will paraphrase on it. Literally anyone can get in as long as they are considered a video game character. A little while back Vergeben even said a Granblue Fantasy character is possible. Not that I find Vergeben a credible leaker, but I digress. I am not that familiar with the series and don’t want to judge it, but IMO I don’t think a gacha game character fits Smash. Imagine a gacha game character taking up a roster spot and getting in before another DK rep or another Zelda rep, that would be a travesty, but hey I guess that makes me a biased fan. The fact that literally any character like one from a gacha game is considered a possibility is alarming, I don’t think the developers would ever put a character of that type in, but if they did, there will be apologists out there that will always defend their decisions no matter what.

There comes a time when you have to criticize Nintendo for questionable decisions they may make down the line. Like how they made Mario Kart Tour and its microtransactions. I don’t want them to turn into one of these companies where it nickels-and-dimes its fans.

Supporters of Nintendo characters have this thread to lean on for comfort. Good luck defending Nintendo characters like Dixie in a forum like Gamefaqs where it’s the Wild West with barrages of ad hominem attacks. I can’t tell you how many ignorant “Wig Diddy” users I have seen there.
What are you all doing on this forum if it is so toxic?...

I guess I want to see things from other perspectives as well as share my own.

I don’t really find the forum toxic that much, for the most part it’s been a great experience. I mean sure, there will be some arguments and disagreements here and there, but it’s not to the level of other forums.

Enjoy the holidays everyone. It should ease the angst of waiting a while for any new announcement and all the constant speculation going on.

I have a feeling Nintendo will start off 2020 with some huge announcements. Then sure enough, we’ll get our answers for FP5 and the DLC fighters that will come after.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Sadly enough we'll get a gacha character before we ever get another Zelda character.

I'm a few days late, but just going to link my ChriSmash comic I did last year.

It's the story of Captain Toad trying to save Christmas for some of the first parties(and Geno) who didn't make the roster cut.

Merry Chri-Smash one and all!
I like it. (Shame my most wanted Poochy wasn't with Waluigi, Bandana Dee and the others, but hey I love it.)
The part where Dixie says that DLC will just be 3rd Party and Fire Emblem is a bit accurate.

Those are mostly the first parties I want, just need Impa or Midna and I'd be happy with that selection.

funny to think that nintendo and sega co own characters (via atlus)
uhh don't you mean via Platinum?

I don't think Nintendo has any stake in Atlus, while I'm pretty sure Nintendo owns Bayo's 2nd design and all of Astral Chain. Also, Atlus rarely has games on Nintendo systems while Platinum rarely has games not on Nintendo systems

i dont, im referring to the original characters in tokyo mirage sessions. in some of the copy right notices ive seen on FE's TGC they list both ninteno/intelligent systems and nintendo/atlus which suggested to me that they share all the original stuff in the game. the stuff nintendo share with platinum arent related to sega, wonderful 101 and astral chain.

if the picture worked it would have shown you what i was referring too

So I think it's a pretty safe bet we're getting a Nintendo Direct this month. If that does end up being the case, what do you guys want to see? Doesn't necessarily have to be something already announced. This would be the first Direct of 2020, after all.

I've been lurking around this thread and more First Parties got me interested with the subject at hand. It's pretty weird that people are gunning down homegirls and homeboys by a long shot. Then again, Nintendo is having their current focus in 3rd party reps, though more woukd be appreciated

I'll take anything, but if I can get new games for franchises beside the usual big guns, that'd be great.

I got a question for you guys, you know the 16 slot datamine stuff? How much does Pokemon Trainer take up?

I have theoretical, if they added a character the switches like Pkmn Trainer, how many of those slots would they take up.

I've been thinking about the possibility of all 3 Fire Emblem Three House leaders being added as one character

I'd rather they be added as separate characters, but whatever. They'd take up three slots anyways.

I never really understood the idea of all House Leaders from TH being shoved into the same character, the entire point of the game is that you have to pick a side, the only time they ever work together is in the opening map of the game, in the rest of it their relationships range from friendly rivalry to waging war on each other over differing ideologies. It's a particular issue with Edelgard and Dimitri, I don't think there's any way them teaming up could really be justified. To me the whole concept seems forced just for the sake of not having to pick one of the three, and I think it's fair enough to feel that way, but at that point Byleth is just the more logical option.

In general I highly doubt we're ever getting anything like Pokémon Trainer again, it taking the development of three unique characters really isn't ideal, there's little reason to push for it given the concept is already realized within the game, and when we're talking about DLC I'm not sure it's even possible given that the development team is scaled down and they have a very strict schedule to keep up with. On top of that I think Sakurai also views the transformation mechanic as being Pokémon Trainer's thing, it's pretty noteworthy that he kept Zelda/Shiek and Samus/ZSS separate, but still felt the need to combine Squirtle/Ivysaur/Charizard back together.

So I've watched that Pokemon Direct and, real talk, if Ushifu was added to Ultimate, I would not complain. There's just something about him that would fit so well.

I'm personally even more on the Gardevoir train after this PMD annoncement !
Gardevoir was already one of my Most Wanted, but now she actually make sense to promote (Which is how Pokemon choose their rep apparently), and damn, I want that very much hehe

I would be okay with Ushifu though, just personal preferences

I'm thankful that we got a 1st party character in Byleth. It's great to see that 1st parties are still on the table.

Honestly more hyped for Byleth than I was Terry.

YES NINTENDO AGAIN!
I'm the opposite, although I am much more accepting of their inclusion than Corrin's and will hope that more first parties can make it.

Still up Peach's dress.
more than the yoshi game?
Yoshi's Crafted World was ironically one of my biggest disappointments last year. Visually stunning and creative but one of the few I lost interest in fast.

Still, we did it guys, we got a first party and even though I know Byleth is a somewhat controversial pick, I'm gonna chalk that up as a win.

Guess everyone may be back on the table now?

I'm still a little salty, wish it was a more unique character or ARMS rep. Its only Fire Emblem that's so lucky.

Regardless of your opinion on Byleth as a character, if you support first party characters, you should see this as a win. People were so convinced that the fighter pass was third party only, they thought all dlc would be.

This has been disproven beyond a shadow of a doubt

Well the objective of the thread has been fulfilled, even if it wasn't how everyone wanted. It did feel good to see Nintendo characters be treated as more than a relic of the

Actually I have quite a large doubt. All three of the Nintendo characters we had in DLC are promotional. The 2 FE Protags were meant to promote their respective FE games, while Piranha Plant (who may have been meant for base game) was part of a promotion for Ultimate. We still have yet to see a First Party character picked because Sakurai/Nintendo deemed them worthy. That leaves basically nothing but a Pokemon Rep and maybe by some miracle, Euden (more likely the Pokemon rep), but you could argue that neither have a chance.
