Forgive me for being skeptic, but while I wouldn't at all be surprised if this was the final roster, it'll take more than just a blurry image to convince me. Maybe I'm just hopelessly optimistic.

Honestly, with Geno there (and no Steve in sight), I'd be pretty okay with this roster, Lip or no. And I'm definitely not giving up on her until DLC's over!

People thought SSB4 was going to be the last in the series. That was after they thought Brawl was thought to be the last in the series. That was after people thought Melee was the final game. And honestly, nothing about SSB64 screams "massive multi-million-dollar franchise" either.

Exactly. Whether or not Masahiro Sakurai is still involved, Smash Bros. will continue one way or another. You don't just stop making a series that rakes in millions of dollars. It's just not good business. (And if Sakurai is really going to keep playing the hypocrite and rule out characters just for lacking recognition internationally, then honestly he doesn't deserve to be at the forefront of it anymore.)

If Lip did make it into smash, btw, I think it would be cool if instead of just having DLC given to you, Sakurai decided to make a PdP game out of it.
You have puzzle battles against newcomers, and when you beat them, they become your ‘allies’, similar to the fairies in the original PdP, then you can transfer the said new characters over to Smash and play as them. What do you think? I think it would be a fun away to bring back that old PdP feeling, while benefiting off of it in Smash Bros by expanding the roster.
I’d call it ‘Panel de Smash’ or something like that.
Considering how it seems PdP means a lot to Sakurai as a developer, implementing it into Smash would be a brilliant idea imo, and I think most would play it, associate it with Lip, and fully revive the franchise.

Imagine seeing an indie character like Shantae in that style. Or Sora from Kingdom Hearts. And maybe the game would even allow you to ‘free’ certain characters from assist trophies like Shovel Knight, Waluigi, and Ashley. Guaranteed 10/10 game.

Lip is one of those characters who you can make the serious argument of "should've been in Smash 64" which there aren't a whole lot of. True. If only NoA didn’t get in the way just because ‘She’s a girly girl flower princess blah blah blah’, she could’ve been. Although even back then, Jigglypuff had the bow alts.

I also always thought that swirl on its head looked a lot like Lip’s, and the fact a flower grows on the opponent’s head from rest in future installments.
Plus, it’s now Fairy type. Seems our little two pink puffballs really like her style or something, lol.

Could you actually imagine what it would be like if the original PdP was released worldwide years ago, and Lip was actually considered a veteran since Smash 64?
Or imagine if PdP and FE swapped roles in Melee, where Sakurai wanted to add Marth, couldn’t, so he went with Lip instead....and now we have, like, 10 PdP reps?
(Each and every fairy in the original game is playable, along with Thanatos.)

Apparently, some sources connected to papagenos (the guy who predicted Mach Rider a while back early in the days of Ultimate) are saying that there are 1-2 characters are still missing from the banner, and they apparently got the 7 shown right.
Also apparently, 1 of the 2 is a ‘big reveal’.
I dunno if it could be Lip...but she’s still missing completely....and I don’t know about you....but seeing how Nintendo has been treating her....that would be quite big imo.

Nintendo can’t do this to us anymore. Yoshi took Lip’s one shot at fame, and she needs it back desperately now. This reminds me of that Puzzle War animation made years ago.

Lip would have been a perfect retro pick for Ultimate imo. She would probably be even more surprising to see than Mach Rider. And including her would instantly break the apparent ‘no Japanese characters only’ rule as well as the ‘Lip’s Stick deconfirms her’ rule. Would actually be funny to see Lip wield dual flower sticks.

Let's not jump to conclusions just yet. There's a lot in its favor, but at the end of day, it's a blurry picture that could easily be faked.

Even if it's all true, the good news is that more and more retro fighters join or are rendered assists, the greater Lip's chances grow. She'll get her chance one day. But I said that during Smash 4's buildup too, so take that with a grain of salt.

Lip just happens to have it bad because her game never made it worldwide.
