I hope it's still there, but knowing our luck, they'll have taken it out and replaced it with nothing.

I heavily doubt Sakurai would treat us PdP fans like that. He knows dang well that PdP has had MULTIPLE references in smash dating all the way back to Smash 64. (I say this because Dreamland 64 still resembles Popples in a way).
The catchphrase of the game is, ‘Everyone Is Here’.
Lip is still someone, right? A person is a person, no matter how small. At the very least, Lip will replace Waluigi’s Assist Trophy spot and get tons of respect and recognition for doing so. (This would mean Arle would have to be an Assist, too. Even though she’s higher on the ballot, Lip and Arle still go hand in hand.)

I don’t think it’s the blocks as much as it is the background. I mean, the background looks awfully familiar to the Popples.
I think either dreamland’s landscape is just coincidentally similar to the Popples, or it was meant to be a scrapped Panel de Pon stage. (Also, this is the first Smash game to have both Green Greens and Dreamland 64 as selectable stages, and both same features from PdP.

Okay, I’m wrong about the stage thing, forgot that Dreamland 64 was in Melee. Oops.
Let’s also not forget that Kirby was Sakurai’s creation. I mentioned before how Kirby had a scrapped copy ability called ‘Flower’ that had a bow like Lip’s and with that, Kirby’s copy ability for her would be a shoo-in if she were playable. Kirby’s down B also has him literally turn into a Garbage Block. Sakurai seems to have a very subtle love for the game most aren’t aware of due to how obscure she is. And, gradually over time, he’s been giving PdP some more subtle love between iterations. At this point, I’m convinced Lip will appear in some form in this game, especially with the Daisy and Waluigi thing going on. Whether she’ll appear as an assist trophy or a fighter, I dunno, but I might sound crazy I saying we might get the latter. This might be her time to shine, people. She would be a completely unexpected retro char no one would guess. (Besides die hard PdP fans, for how few of us there are.)
Also forgot to mention Lip’s Theme being a song in Brawl, but we have yet to see it appear in Ultimate.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention! It’s the little things like this that leads me to believe that Sakurai has actually had some undying love for Panel de Pon.
Y’know, with the HEAVY amount of PdP references in sakurai’s own creation, Kirby, (I did mention his garbage block, his scrapped ‘flower’ ability, and how he kept referencing in Smash despite the game getting next to nothing before the time around the smash ballot). I personally think he may have fibbed about planning Ayumi Tachibana for Melee. I think deep in his heart, he wanted to have Lip show up in the Smash series at some point, and this could be her chance despite the odds. The only question is: why would he straight up lie about wanting to include Lip? Could this mastermind have planned this exact setup between Daisy, Waluigi, and Lip now in Ultimate? On second thought, what if they BOTH made it in?

There's a new anime out this season called Merc StoriA: The Apathetic Boy and the Girl in a Bottle.
In it the main girl character is a "Bottle Fairy" and she reminds me ALOT of Elias, my favorite fairy besides Lip!

Well, if one more thing happens before the next direct pertaining to Kirby, Yoshi, or even Pokémon, (Because of Pokémon Puzzle league) it will definitely be considered a sign to me.

Waluigi, Geno, and Lip may all be in this game.
Why? Because Geno is a character that both Sakurai and many fans have wanted since Brawl, Waluigi is a character that Sakurai probably had no intention of adding before Ultimate, (but he’d still put Waluigi in because of the fans who lost it when he was supposedly “deconfirmed” but not Daisy) and Lip is a character he’s always wanted. So I’m other words, he would be putting in a long awaited character fans have wanted while putting in a character he has wanted on his own.

Hah, there is a less than zero percent chance of Geolyte being in Smash.

I know damn well you have been planning Lip to appear in a Smash game since Melee with all those PdP references in Kirby. And you know that us Lip fans are desperate at this point, for her to be a character. I know people will say: just make her an assist trophy.
But...NO. At this point, you have built up Ultimate to be the big game of the series. Unlike Takamaru, Sukapon, or the rest, you have not ONCE referenced them in Smash since Melee. And you STRAIGHT UP LIED about Ayumi Tachibana being planned as a character in Melee. Adding her in as a character at this point would pay a HUGE homage to Gunpei Yokoi since Daisy is now in.

Unlike Ayumi though, throughout Melee, there are much more references to PdP than Famicom Detective Club. Green Greens, Lip’s Stick, Kirby turning into a garbage block, the scrapped ‘flower’ copy ability. Ayumi just had a trophy back in Melee. Not only that, but Lip was the 2nd most requested NES/SNES character in Melee, only behind Sukapon, who JUST NOW became an Assist Trophy in Ultimate. The hell are you on about? Neither character has been hinted at or implied at all outside of speculation and fake leaks. BluePikmin's right as well, and if for some reason there actually only ended up being 103 stages, that doesn't mean anything for newcomers.

Yeah, but Excitebiker never had a huge or vocal fandom, while Mach Rider only started gaining traction after Takamaru’s disconfirmation. Takamaru himself got hella popular, but only after the ballot. By 2015, Lip was the retro character with the biggest dedicated support base.

That is a good point.
As far as I know, she might be obscure, but across my encounters on the web, even if I had to tell people or introduce them to PdP and Lip as a character and what she would do in battle, they didn’t seem against her inclusion.
(She definitely would be a more suprising retro rep to see due to her “only in Japan” thing. Although...maybe not...because Marth/Roy.)

It just seems Ultimate is tearing people apart.
So many conflicting things are happening in the community that it seems it is driving everyone insane. Especially us Lip fans, who feel this may be the last chance for her to shine.
I just hope we get a direct soon so we know for sure what’s going to happen. It seems the community is extremely thirsty for something to happen.

Could simply be the original 108 is the number including all unlockables and 103 is the staring number. They probably spoiled us early with the 108 and this time tried to "hide" that fact by going back and saying 103.
