Hello, everybody. I'd like to start off this post by announcing that I have been appointed the lead of the downloadable content crew (DLC) by Yeroc as part of the WBR restructuring. I haven't posted a lot previously, but I have been very active behind the scenes, mostly through Cape. With the reworking of the Workshop and the changes I see being made, it made me happy to accept this position. I'm a big fan of anything that changes Sakurai's original work to something more enjoyable and deep with potential for constant updates. With that said, I will do what I can to uphold and fulfill my position and make sure that the DLC crew pumps out quality, innovative material for the rest of the community to enjoy.

First things first: I have an agenda that I have partially discussed w/ Cape, but not any of the other DLC crew. What I would like to see is all the people that have been releasing a lot of the DLC content to post here with some contact info for me. I'm going to post mine as well...hell, I'll even give my phone number (pm or aim me). I want to touch base personally with the people involved, and I do know who most of you are. Feel free to PM me as well. The sooner I touch base with the entire DLC crew, the better. I would like to get a sticky up for the DLC crew with maybe some links to all of the material they have put out (could act sort of like a portfolio).

**A large part of the DLC crew's focus will be the various projects (Brawl+, Brawl-, BBrawl, Project:M, etc.) and everything associated with them. We are also here for you, the community, to assist with your various custom tool needs. As the flow of the new WBR starts to establish itself, so will the flow of the DLC crew and how we handle our business. This, like all things, will take a little time but rest assured that the DLC forum will be a much better place to find all of your DLC needs.

Thank you everyone for your time, and I look forward to serving the community as the DLC crew chief.

What exactly will the DLC Crew do, anyways?

Will they manage the Updatifiers or something?
The DLC crew is in charge of everything involving PSA, Brawlbox, etc, and we're not restricted to just one "game". We'll manage things such as custom characters and stages and everything involved w/ them such as balancing them out for possible competitive play and all the other fun custom hacks. Ex: Once one character becomes finished (final version) then it will be balanced and made available for all the different Brawl projects.

The updater apps are handled by the people involved specifically within their respective "games" (I have to think of something else to call them).

You lost me at "in charge of everything"...

If what you're planning is to control those areas and maintain them, good luck, but you've lost my vote...

However, if instead, what you're trying to do is provide a service that can download the communities textures and files through a managed source to our SD cards to be put into Brawl, then you'd get my vote back.

think it through... its a topic about downloadable content regarding hacking brawl.... what could he possibly mean by "in charge of"? could it maybe be the distribution of files in an easy to use database? or would it make more sense if he was talking about a dictorial rule over all future PSA/BrawlBox projects? seriously, its not rocket science...

Ok so your making it so that There are PSA's and Textures that you can download right from your Wii, onto your SD Card. That PWN's.

I support this.

If I get this, he's saying that there will be one crew that handles costumes, stages, and character pacs for the various codesets(like B+, B-, and PM).

I support this, but you guys probably don't want me. I haven't done much DLC posting here, and I can barely keep a deadline.

BUT...I can help with BrawlBox. I've done a lot of playing around with the model and texture tools in it, so I can assist with stages and general textures.

I should have stated that it's a group of people in the WBR that will be working with others to get a chunk of the DLC here on the forums viable and easy to use for all the projects (B+, etc.).

And no, there's no dictatorship going on. Keep doing what you programmers are doing and enjoy it.

So, what exactly is it? Do you like take our work and modify it any way you want to make it suitable for another game?

Or will it be more like a database for all hacks?

I may be alone in this, but shouldn't only the original hacker have the power to change his/her hack? I'm thinking about the characters here mostly since the other types of hacks have little impact on gameplay. If you're gong to adapt them for Brawl+, -, BB and others, character change is a priority and I don't think a small group should have the power to modify someone else's work. I'm assuming you ask permission and ask for consent?

@FrozenHobo: Yea that was my original guess, but 'life' got me in a really bad mood last night so I was really analytical and stupid.
@Kaotical: I sorta am getting what you mean now, but it's still not making complete sense. Good luck with it all though.

Basically its more of a content control.

Things such as custom characters can be run through the DLC team for Brawl, Brawl-, and Brawl+. When it is released from the WBR DLC team you know that it will have textures, CSPs, a completed moveset, polished, balanced, etc on the character.

Stages will come from this territory as well. This is mostly going to be a quality control that will allow the players to know that the characters or stages that they DL will fit well into their game of choice. The original creators will definetly still get their credits, but this will allow the players to know what content has been examined and polished up for their game of choice.

Thats the primary point.

As an example:
Eldarian's Zero has great animations but he is really not a good playable character right now sadly.

So the DLC team can polish up the properties of his moves and any missing animations for Brawl, Brawl-, and Brawl+ as well as give him say a red, green, blue, black, white, and yellow costume. This makes him completely playable in all modes on all versions. Also include Characater select portraits for those that use them.

While the custom characters will most likely never be tournament allowed (except for a fun side tourney) they will at least be prepared for you to use in your game at home. This allows more in depth and fun experience with your game and you will know that the characters that you download with work well with your game of choice.

So basically, this is a "you guys are not good enough at balance so we'll take your work and make it better for said game"?

While I admit your team is probably much better than the original hacker when it comes to balance and all the other polishing stuff, the original creator of the character/stage should still have a word to say in the final product or in the developpement.

I only fear you guys will take away some key element from a character. Like removing self-damage/discharge from Pichu because it is counter competitive (taking damage to become stronger gives an advantage to the one who is losing).

But really, this project is an idea that had to happen, standardizing everything. I just don't think it should become a "we take your work and make it better". More like, "we take your work, make it better and are very open to the original hacker's point of view".

And are you guys intending to ask permission before using someone else's work? It would be more polite and respectful IMO.

(Sorry for trying to tell you how to do your work, I just don't want this wonderful idea to become a dictatorship. lol)

Never said that the team would not ask permission and we also never said they would cut out the original developer :-p

They are just the organizational group behind it all.

Nice, that's exactly how it should work out. Thanks to everyone who contributes to the project and I sincerely hope it goes well and as planned.

I finally understand, and am excited for this. Excellent idea to get this going.

You guys should write up tons of tutorials FAQs for that tutorial forums D:

That's all that should be. Tons of tutorial threads, and a sticky with a table of contents, containing links to all of the different tutorials.

That is, however, a lot of work D:

Sorry for not posting sooner, community! Been under the weather! And also, thanks for the assistance, Cape!

Yes, Cape said it best. Everyone that is making DLC is doing a fine job I'm sure. The DLC crew will be doing a lot of work here soon to make things smoother, as Cape mentioned, and to provide good, solid references for the community. It will be a lot of work, but that's fine with us. I know there are reference threads that have been made for creators' material, but hopefully in the future there will be better, more complete and compiled references. Also, the DLC Crew is always here to help people who need assistance in their developing endeavors, and there's also a Programmer team that was recently made as well; they would know the code stuff better than some of the DLC people for sure. And yes, we will be working with the people who did the original work, not stealing it out from under you.

I'm thinking about using this thread as a sort of voice from all of you people since it's already titled "DLC Crew". I'll be checking this thread constantly. Feel free to post here to voice something, but please, keep it on topic! This means keep all posts DLC or DLC crew related. I'll change the first post as things in this thread develop.

Now with that established, go ahead and voice your thoughts.

Aw. :(

Anyway, I wholly approve of the DLC crew's goals. (And not just 'cuz I'm on it.) I hope to enlist their efforts when I (hopefully) create Zero 2.0.

mmk, just saw this thread and felt that i should post in it, being a member myself...

im a stage hacker, and i hope to enlist at least a few of the guys around here that are doing things with stages...i was planning on sending a pm around, but creating a stage hacks thread will probably do more good in the long run. Expect to see that up soon.

I'm glad that the DLC crew is enthusiastic about their role.

To all you programmers and developers working on DLC: as mentioned previously we're not here to steal your work or any other ideas of the sort. If the DLC crew finds something that you have been working on is good to put into some kind of downloadable pack (just as an example), then if anything we will be getting in contact with you to collaborate on completing that (Ex: working with Eldiran to balance Zero).

so will the DLC Crew also be polishing up some certain animations that look choppy because ChiboSempai's Waluigi is good and all but the movements are a little choppy and what i mean to say in all sense is Will you be giving characters like him b moves since alloys can have that now? Also will you guys be fixing any bugs and bad movements? Please respond.

If we find a project that we feel needs work to be completed (moved to a final version) then someone from the crew will work with the person who made the project to get it done. I think that's a simple explanation. Hope it answered you.

DL Crew, can we fix it? DL Crew, yes we can! *sung to tune of Bob the Builder*

I fully support this, after the few explanations posted.

*waves at the people*

:3 Geez you guys on the boards here are pretty apprehensive. Can't the WBR try to help without people getting all up in grillz and junk?

Hahaha. Yeah, look forward for working with people.
