I hate the Beatles, they are terrible.
Everyone in my family (and friends) creams for the Beatles but I would rather listen to the sounds of an avid heroin user quit whilst undergoing Chinese water torture.

They are overrated
They are mediocre
They are bad

If you don't agree with my opinion I can only feel sorry for you and your lack of intellect.

They are overrated.

They're pretty good though.

Syd Barret was better.

It's not like they don't have some decent material, but I couldn't listen to any of their recordings the whole way through - So much garbage. I'm not a fan.

I'm embarrassed that this thread exists in australias forums.

They aren't overrated, gtfo with this thread.

They are a great band but to say they aren't (or at least, never were, because they definitely were) overrated is, in my opinion, in correct.

They did revolutionize 'rock' a decent amount, and I like the way they structured the songs, especially the chord progressions for their verses going into the chorus, an example is "Hard days Night". Stuff got worse when Yoko was involved.

But at the time they were doing Sgt. Peppers Album, Syd Barret was transcending time and space. That's why I mention him. He's underrated.
Probably he because he wanted everything to be so perfectly unique that he couldnt actually make the music for fear of it not being good enough :(

But the music that he did produce is magical.

Your opinion can not turn things into fact.

Your opinion: You think they are bad.
Fact: They are actually very good.

I don't like their music either but I can't say they are the worst or they are bad.

Number 1 songs on the charts like a mofo.

Actually dont they hold a record for having a song sitting at number 1 for the longest time or something?

I don't like the Beatles much either, but I appreciate what they did for the music community. More importantly, I respect them as top artists over 99% of the chart-toppers since the 90s til now.

Mmmmn that fence.

Whilst topping charts impacts the music scene (because new artists would be inspired to follow those who have the best success, no? It also kinda makes them the music of the time. Like lady gaga kind of is now. But not as much as the Beatles were.)

Anyway, the charts; being #1 doesn't verify the greatness of an artist. I mean there is some greatness in being able to get #1...

But you know what I mean.

Anyway Michael Jackson is pretty awesome.
But even more awesome? Syd Barret. My sweet goodness!

She's in the spot light the most out any artist right now, as far as i can tell anyway.

I mean now music has expanded heaps and covered a lot of ground
It's leaped out in all kinds of directions now and theres so many different genres now
So there is a lot of music for our time, and depending on what your tastes are it could be a totally different artist that defines it.

However in the charts there's less of that diversity.
And the music you see in the charts tends to be the most common or easiest to fine.
Lady Gaga is (or was, pity her second album wasn't quite as consistant as the first unfortunately) pretty much the most succesful of those you would see in the charts, so in a way she does define the music of the time in one way or another. The mainstream music or what most people enjoy, or something else. You know? She represents some of what is chart topping at the time.

Pity that despite all the musical ground covered, there currently isn't any band QUITE LIKE SYD BARRET!

I have the best taste in music in the entire universe, I've listened to practically every album ever created by man.

After all of this, I can proudly say - THE BEATLES SUCK.
