First time I've ever placed Top 2 in singles

It was pretty epic, the finals went all 10 rounds, and they were down to the wire every time.

It was against quik (Wario)
At the end of game 5, we were both at like 130% at our final stocks, and I SA punched him, and he SA fsmashed me, and we collided and we both got damage but nobody went anywhere.

Then the last game I was doing pretty good, but he did the dthrow chain and fsmashed for the win.





how did CoT4 go? Any DKs did well there?

theultimodragon as Kosa said, all you need is a good backup. I recently have been working on my kirby. he goes at least even with DDD, Wario, and Falco. Those are the only real characters that give me a problem.

Work on a new secondary that covers your weaknesses and you will see yourself shine in tourneys.

I go all DK in tourney's, but thats only cause DDD infinite tends to be banned where I play. If I run into an infinite I counter with Olimar. I actually second Mario just because I enjoy playing him, but I don't think he really helps in any of DK's bad matchups, so I mainly just use him for teams. Am I the only one who thinks DK just isn't very good in team?

I think DK ***** in teams. You just have to kinda stay back and not jump right into the middle, or else you'll get combo'd to death. But if you space well and just keep hitting them with bairs and fsmashes and punches (which works in 2v2 because of all the chaos going on), you'll win. And cargo spikes seem to work well for gimps if you're outnumbered.


Plus, cargo dthrow into your teammate charging a smash = awesome.

I love DK in teams, but I'd actually prefer to use Mr. G&W.

I have no plans to switch mains any time soon, but there's no denying that DK has some bad matchups amongst the top characters.

I did pretty well for my first one I suppose, I lost to the tourny winner and then was eliminated by a MK who got mad that I CP'd mansion against him in ignorance and somehow won anyways. So he CP'd it right back at me and used whorenado until his B button broke.
At any rate, I did awesome for a first timer, expect more and better results from my ape.

Second Tournament ala Kalm. Did a lot better than I would have expected despite all my scrubness. I filled in character usage as best as I could remember. I myself used DK a about 70% of the time and Kirby about 30% of the time.

Reflex makes me so mad being so good with such an obscure character lol. I'm glad he lives near me though, the practice will do wonders. I wish I could've fought him in the tourny, I had better chances beating him than Will_'s freakin MK. Had a better chance against Kismet's awesome Falco too.

Also, I won a 2$ MM against Phloat, using GW/MK. Was my first MM.

Anyway about a month ago at the last billfest I got 7th in singles and 4th in doubles. There were sooooooo many people crammed in that apartment. The tourney finished so late. It was 3 am when we got eliminated in teams and we just left. I think we could have gotten 2nd or 3rd if we hadn't of been playing so sloppy from fatigue.

Oh hey Kalm do you have any advice for Reflex. I'm MM'ing him at HERB.

When using DK...

Don't ever expect to shield grab Reflex, it won't happen. If you're shielding all of his attacks will either safely space or attack through you so he lands behind you. Play extremely careful against his Ivysaur, he will catch you in disgustingly high damage building combos, including but not limited to bullet seed. Don't you dare ever pass up a chance to edge guard. Squirtle will juggle you with Utilt and combo the hell out of you at low %, watch out for that too. Take him to your best stage, there are plenty of good ones.
Reflex doesn't generally fall for any kind of trick you might have, he'll count the winds on your punch even. When you're falling he will wait on the ground and bait falling Bairs for a shield grab, or grab you if you land. You have to stop this with a punch or headbutt, or possibly an auto canceled Nair. I haven't had a chance to see what is the most effective, I just know he will grab you if he's waiting on the ground for you to land. Reflex breaks out of grabs faster than anyone in the world, generally a good 1-2 seconds faster than the best out there. If you grab him, assume he's going to break out 2 seconds faster than you should expect and get your pummeling done and throw out as needed.
Charizard will spike you, Ivy builds mad damage and randomly kills early, Squirtle is all over the place trying to combo and Dthrow kills around 150% or so. If I where you I would check out the Squirtle Dthrow and get a very good idea of its kill % and how to best DI it.
Reflex is also evil when it comes to baiting and manipulating his opponent, expect him to bait your airdodges all day long if you let him. Don't be surprised if he lets you get a small hit in, like a ledge attack, just because he expects it to put you right where he wants you. Don't be predictable, and don't get greedy with your attacks. You should also try to not be afraid, but chances are that won't happen.

against squirtle just space well, he won't do much, I think the most a squirtle has ever done to me is 46%, typh did like 13%, and he's one of the best pts out there, just remember that squirtle dies really early.

against ivy, don't spotdodge, go for gimps, don't go above him

charizard is a pain, you gotta learn that one yourself
