...I never thought I would need to go look at my notes from my world history class to correct someone on smashboards.

Wak, I'm pretty sure the person you are thinking of is Socrates. Socrates would always ask questions to force the person to contradict themselves, and when asked a question, himself, he always answered "I know nothing." (Same guy you were thinking of? Or was there someone else?)
