My point was that the ELO ranking system is inaccurate. It isn't based off of skill. It takes into account wins, losses, attendance, and number of matches played. The problem here is that attendance and number of matches played have no place in the power rankings. They prove nothing about skill or who's better than who. Therefore this ranking system won't work.

its only inaccurate right now but give it like 4-5 tournaments it will start to show the true rankings

the beginning is always bad for ELO for any game but over time creates the best results for ranking or rating of a person

the K values seems to be the hardest to mess with right now since we don't really have a set k value per set that would be fair

the degrading over time would be nifty like every tournament u miss ur elo drops by 10-20 points but only for the top 3-5 rankings in the tournaments

if i sat down and thought all this through i could have an system that we could test out over 3-4 tournaments and make adjustments according to turn outs and other things

My problem is that Elo is a worthless ranking unless it is going to be used for something. The only reason it's accurate for Chess and other places is that they use the Elo rankings for prizes, seedings, invitations, things that motivate people to actually attend and win matches because something important is on the line. by votes of who better cus they know the skill of someone rather than just tournament placement they know that at their peek so and so will be so and so at his peek or playing well

Hey thanks for coming down this weekend guys, it was really fun, and great meeting all of you. Sorry if I didn't get to play any matches with some people, and also about possible sleep deprivation, but these are the drawbacks of any smash related event, so get used to them.

Whenever I'm in TN, I'll host more, and try to bring out of state attention, because we could prolly fit a few more people >.> I know we had a few extra set-ups, and space (the entire back room, half of the dining room) It didn't go as badly as I expected it to.

Also, any news about that recording setup? When do you think any vids will be popping up?

I'll try. I am a little preoccupied. My car threw a piston rod through the engine on the way home. Insurance might actually cover it though. Evidently I had taken in water during the monsoon season here in Memphis. That explains all the car trouble on the way up there and the hole in my engine on the way back. I'm just trying to get it all sorted out right now.

I recon we just all do a group activity instead of this , but if we must argue about smash I suggest any matches that count as wins become points toward the rankings. Lets say I have 3billion points(20 points is the highest), cause I am Iori and is a very good. Jack has 8 points leaving a close gap, meaning he would be able to catch up fairly easly dispite constant wining of matches. what do ya thing guys, its easy to follow and disregards whether or not someone is better due to the judgment of someones skill.

The problem with any points system is that it takes into account how active a person is. Nite, for instance, is not a very active smasher but still in the top 4. He shows up to weeklies every now and then, but does not come to tournaments. How would it be fair to a person in a situation like this? Point systems will inherently have this flaw.

I've been practicing hard, and I'm pretty sure I at least stand....somewhat of a chance now.
If nothing else, my technical skill has increased by 1.
