It's the closest tournament to my house. haha. It's only about 25min. I know Iori and some of the Run7 went to them. Try asking them for input.

I went to both of them.

They both had pros and cons.

The two worst things about them were the laggy TV's and the way they handled the prize money. They don't do a pot.....they give out gift cards and free entry at the next tournament for the top 3 (except for the second tournament which was just the top two, me and iori =/).

At the second tournament I had a conversation with the girl that ran the place and she said she'd be looking in to component cables for the TV's to reduce the lag. If they got the CC's that'd be downright saucy.

As far as nitpicking goes.....space was an issue at the first tournament. It got quite cramped. The furniture is also really uncomfortable. The stools will DESTROY your ***.

Other then that the tournaments went down fine.

It had a decent turnout both times and it was run competently.

The second was also great because more serious smashers showed up. The first tournament was a bit of a casual clusterf*ck.

anyone interested in playing either SSF4 and BB:CS when it comes out? I'd really like to learn some other fighting games. Also anyone else willing to get some kind of monthly or at least consistent play time in Memphis? I feel like we have a lot of great players and a lot of people looking to get better. Comments or suggestions? Please contact me if you want to play melee on a regular basis. If I'm just dumb and missing out.
I know I'm going to try to get Continuum Shift.
It looks like it's gonna be awesome, and by then, I should have a job.
With enough money, I could convince my parents to drive me out to Memphis so that I can fight against you guys and all that.

Calamity Trigger is still fun, though.
Nu, Tager, Tao, Ragna, and Hakumen all the way.

Hmm. I guess if I'm still gonna be on here, I should at least be more updated. I'm pure Ashland City now, whenever I'm in Tennessee, so no Nashville. And really, by all rights, I shouldn't even be on here anymore since I'm in town about 7 or 8 weeks of the entire year. =(

School.....will be over sometime soon.
A few weeks or a month and it'll be over.

Good news, guys.
Depending on my grades (which depends on how picky my Chemistry teacher is), I'll either get to travel places via my parents and maintain a job, thus enabling me to buy a Wii and Brawl eventually, OR I'll spend the entire summer on grounding.
I'll still look for and eventually maintain a job, but I most likely won't be able to buy anything.

Eh, getting a ride is a lot harder than you think.
Only my parents would take me since they have trust issues with another person that took me, and if they did drive me, they'd have to get something out of the deal as well.

And the fact that it's my job?
When I get grounded, I have to stay at home, so I can't walk anywhere.
My parents drive me most places, and I'm gonna have to buy my own car when I get my driver's license.
Those factors disable every option I'm willing to take.

Save your money. Don't get Brawl. >_>

Unless you want to pick up Brawl+, and then hope Project: M turns out really good. Hopefully it will, I'd love a Melee with more characters.

Teach your parents to play smash, then have them come to the tourney with you.

Didn't work out so well.
My dad doesn't like Smash.
So, in desperation to find a game that we both liked since I was absolutely sick of playing alone, I got into BlazBlue.
He's....kinda getting into it.
We only play every once in awhile, and I slaughter him with Nu every time.

1. Don't waste money on Brawl
2. I wouldn't play with you much either if you keep using a cheap and annoying character like Nu. (she's really annoying, as in not fun to play against)

1. Brawl is fun, and it's not like I feel like buying anything else.
It may not be competitive, but I don't care.
Also, all of my friends play Brawl and not Melee, and it's a lot more fun to fight a real person than a computer.
Wifi may suck to you guys, but it's fun to play a casual match every once in awhile.

2. Ever seen a good Rachel?

You guys are taking all of this way too seriously.
Just calm down, Melee can wait.

I have to say, a good Arakune is way more annoying than a good Rachel.

But a mediocre Nu is about the same as both....

On a side note, I play Tao.

Nope. I set them up with TIO the first time, so at least they do that.

But they threw everything directly into a bracket with no seeding. I almost had to play Iori first round, but it got switched with someone else.

I had to play Cyner, bunbun, then vts.
Ambix, then scrub, scrub, scrub(handy Jk ,3), then the worst scrub arby, and finally some insane black guy screaming about he was asian and hyping matches up that didn't need hyping then saying to me i suck and that he is the best in the world who won the tournament.

Bleh I need to get back in to the melee tournament scene...

When's the next big shindig?

EDIT:

lol at "iori over-hyping matches"

Even if it was sarcasm it's actually quite true.

Back in the days of the INN biweeklies you could walk down the street to the gas station and still hear him screaming "HIDDEN LOTUS" after every luigi F-smash.

EDIT 2:

Yeah. It was shit as usual. Powerplay sucks at tournaments when we have to pay a $10 venue fee for just singles on laggy tv's.
They actually said we could bring setups this time but no one did =/

The venue fee is a bit excessive but it isn't hard to figure out why.....it's a small buisness.....and a gameshop at that. They're going to go for profits wherever they can.

I actually enjoyed it on the whole since my ass didn't get destroyed by those stools, I finally got to meet the new local melee blood, and I actually won something that wasn't a useless piece of plastic.

I'm kind of sad that arkansas bailed though minus VTS. I haven't seen them since '08.

memphis has enough people that would come to tournaments we just need somewhere to hold them
At the last powerplay I was bugging zane to start the INNsomnia series and bi-weeklies back up but he seems too busy.....I don't know anyone else off the top of my head with access to an acceptable venue and the time to put it together.

That, and the Inn is filing bankruptcy and it's last business day will be Wednesday (28th).

We walked in there with our tvs and they said no. It doesn't get any more clear than that.

Anyway, if they keep charging 10 bucks for unseeded insta-bracket singles only, no thanks man. I'll watch.
