Hi guys! Time to return to this project; this time, with the recent ban of Meta Knight, the ranking will be based on MK-banned tournaments, starting from January 2012. Also, from now on, the ranking will be based on the popular Elo Rating System, with a few adjustments to the k-factors, thus gaining much more accuracy than before!

Q: How does this ranking work?

A: To keep it simple, these ratings are based in the idea of Elo (check Elo Rating System), in which the k-factors are dependant mainly on tournament size, total money prize, and tournament phase. All players start with 1.500 points.

That is like a medal case. it shows how many times you have placed top 3.

Eh, theres several tournaments from aib that arent here. But thats usually an issue and I dont want to have to find all of them :|, its going to be even worse unless people clearly report which events are banned and not. You can probably talk to john #s since he keeps really good track.

Since we have our TX PR, they almost never feel the need to upload brackets in tournament result threads since they just send tio files to Zac/Xyro to update our PR.

This would be pretty cool if people sent in TO files and it wound up being very accurate. Sadly I don't see that happening at all.

WC uploads results to AiB often enough and AiB always has the bracket if you want to recreate and send it in I guess.

- mmm sadly, probably not. A lot of stuff needs to be updated there, and currently I don't have the time. I don't discard it 100% but I'd need a lot of time since there's a lot of catchup and work to do there.

- Maybe I'll add the posibility of money matches counting for this in the future. For now I need to give time to the ranking and see how it goes with just tournament results.

I haven't the bracket for those Brackets are essential now, since I need to know exactly who defeated who and when (in which phase). Overall placings are not enough info. If you manage to get the brackets, you can send them to me though, and I'll add them; I tried to get them before, without much luck

Just out of curiosity what are the changes you made to the k-factors?

Instead of picking constant k-factors (like in chess, where the k-factor is usually a certain fixed number), I adapted them so that the k-factors are dependant mainly on tournament size and tournament phase (ie: 3rd round of losers bracket in a 27-players tournament has a k-factor of 50,85). For determining k-factors, an initial assumption that all entrants have the same score was made, and in that case, the differences between the final scores (once the tournament has ended) are established to follow a certain distribution. The distribution is as follow:

- The difference in points between a player whose final place was among the first X players, and a player whose final place was among the first Y players (with X < Y) in a tournament with N entrants is the next:

10 * LN(Y/X) * SQRT(N+2) / LN(2)

With that in mind, k-factors are estimated.

I know this sounds kinda vague / complicated. In the next update I'll upload some images / tables with these k-factors.

at Apex 2012 and KTAR 6 never being in the rankings. Oh well. Only issue is that a lot of tournaments will actually have MK legal in the states. May be less than 50%, but that is a big chunk of tournies that won't be accounted for in these rankings.

- The tournament MUST be MK-Banned
- Bracket + Detailed Pool Results
- Total payouts (or entry fee)
- A results thread (here or in AiB is recommended)
- Date and Location (City+State) of the Tournament
