I seriously think this is like... my 3rd or 4th PokeBlog?

If not, for someone who knows next to nothing about competitive Pokemon. I actually want to get involved into it, in what is most likely the most dead scene (GenI, RBY, BL/UU) because that's what all my friends do at school and I have nothing better to do. <_<

Now, I would have used the PokeCenter, and more specifically the Rating sub-forum, but I don't really want anything rated. D= I want advice.

No, Gold Silver is the most dead scene. Its by far the worst competative wise. No one wants to touch a game where Skarmory, Tyranitar, and Blissy dominate and block out everything.
Crazy crazy stalling in gen 2.

^This

SkarmBliss is probably one of the most overused teams out there (Gen 2 anyway)

Although if you want to play competitively and have fun, might I suggest UU?

Use Starmie/Chansey/Tauros/Rhydon/Alakazam. That's all you really need to know.

Oh wait you said BL/UU, in that case use Dragonite/Cloyster/Vaporeon/Kadabra(he's BL)/Dodrio/Jolteon. You'll be hard pressed to find a good special wall in BL/UU since there is literally ONLY chansey but w/e. Maybe drop one of those pokes for a Venesaur lead(sleep powder is win) Body Slam is huge in R/B/Y since the game is basically about speed. All the top sweepers are fast and frail(gengar/alakazam/starmie being the big three, with Tauros right on their heels)

You named 2 of the Pokemon I was thinking of.

So far, here's what I thought. Thinking of switching the last 2 listed (haven't determined the order)

Vaporeon
Charizard
Nidoking
Jolteon
Kangaskan
Mr. Mime

Once I get the team (sorta) finalized, I'll go make a thread in the PokeCenter rating forum. <_<

We give advice/suggestions too. :3 In fact, that's about all we give. You don't typically see actual ratings in there anymore.

Oh, and listen to Reaper. He knows his ****.

As long as you don't lead with Vaporeon that's fine. You could lead with Jolteon, give it pin missile and hope to take down Lead Eggexcutor .

I only have Sapphire.

If I can get my hands on ruby/emerald, and I feel like getting into a far more complex metagame (items/EV's? and that bull****) then I'll think about it.

Right now I'll go to the basics.

Just know that speed is very important competitively. a little known fact is that in RBY the higher your base speed is the higher your chances of getting a critical hit on any move (IIRC your chances of getting one is base speed/256). Critical hits also ignore attack/def buffs (including your own) so crits may even end up doing less damage than a regular hit. Wrap/fire spin type locks are also very effective after a toxic since they will be forced to take damage while skipping several of their turns (now that I think about it idk if toxic does damage during those kinds of moves).

Another good thing to know is that stats cap off at 999 so doing amnesia/swords dance type moves a third time is probably not a good idea.

SuSa, get an action replay for the DS, and find the pokesav program for the computer. After that, you will perfectly legitimate pokemon right there and save yourself all that time trying to train IVs and EVs. Breeding for just the right IVs in just 1 or 2 categories and the correct nature can take like half a day if your luck sux.

I refuse to hack, I'm doing this FOR THE FUN. I see no fun in hacking. It's also why I want first Gen, part of the nostalgia.

@Big O
I learned that actually, and assumed that as well. But thanks for putting it VERY clearly for me. :)

Also remember that in Gen 1, freeze never ends. If there's something you really want dead(say a chancey) that is walling your special moves, feel free to spam Ice Beam/Blizzard against it and hope for a freeze, cus being frozen = being dead.

You're still in school? :dizzy: Hell, I thought all the mods here had to be, like, over twenty or something like that to get in... stupid noobiness and not knowing nothing...

Well... that not quite fully true. If the opponent uses Haze, then you're cleared of it. Of course, the odds of them using it at all when they've got such an advantage is rather low. But dead true about the freeze thing not ending otherwise. It was basically the only thing that could halt a Mewtwo back then, so long as you had a Chansey with Light Screen and a freezing move. Good lord it was scary back in Gen 1...
