Yep, I pretty much used just whoever was funnest in the roster honestly. That's why for newcomers I look for who would be just plain fun to play!
I still do that. I always play who I enjoy playing the most more often than not. It just so happens most of the time your favorite characters are your favorites in part because they're really good, but that has never been the case with my love of Ness!
Through the Virtual Console I will be playing the first, and I am afraid that either the other two won't follow or it'll take a long time... I might have to suck it up and get them on my computer just so I can play finally. I'm very very interested.
Shut up and play EarthBound already, and then let Nintendo take your money!
You are absolutely right. There were deadly knowledgeable people, people who just played for fun, even people who pick Kirby then spam Down B and Up B the entire fight.
I ended up going up against all types of levels of players, some were the best I've ever played.
A few of us at Rule 6 last summer (including Shroomed, one of the best players in the world and the world's best Doc, and Alan, who's a great Peach) played Giant Melee on Brinstar with Giant Mushrooms on very high. If you get a Giant Mushroom and hit the lava and you aren't one of the 8 lightest characters, you die, in a slow, painful way, as if you were gradually "falling" the lava. And quite frankly, it's hilarious.
No really, you should try it out. It's freaking hilarious listening to and watching the characters die, especially with other people around.
I'm not very good at Brawl (partially) because I'm not willing to play campy.
It's because I just want to have fun.
I tried using a Toon Link style comprised of baiting and partially using camping methods, but in the end, that was no good, and I quit that game.
