Nobody is saying Medusa is getting in.

Also, we don't want to play as "reps," "representatives," or "candidates."

We want to play as unique and important characters that give us a reason to turn on Smash Bros for years and year and years and select them.

Palutena may be that, but Medusa (aka one of many bosses in the last Kid Icarus game), along with every character not named Pit or Palutena, is not that... at all. They could be unique, but they aren't too important.

Edit: Anyone wanna go here to chat=???

My girlfriend's kind of annoyed with me for acting so wrist flappingly excited about this game but, despite being a gamer for over 20 years, there's only a few games I have ever gotten genuinely excited for. I'm even throwing a party on Saturday to celebrate by playing the previous three games all night. Do you guys think that's overkill for a 25 year old?
Quite the contrary, for a 25 year old that isn't nearly enough! Smash is a legendary series and Smash 4 reveal means it is time to PAR-TAY.

He is Smash 4's Zant. :p
Except this simply isn't true. We've talked about this a lot in my Ghirahim thread, because people keep thinking it, but they don't think it through. I'm not being a fanboy or anything, I agree Ghirahim probably won't be in and there's a lot against him, but I really cannot agree with this statement.

Then how is he different from Zant?

I think Ghirahim has more personality, moveset potential, and dare I say, fans. He's a one shot character, yes. But this isn't a death sentence.

I hope to do the same thing with Smash 4, discover who is the most OP the earliest and go hard on him, then fall back to my old favorites.
Any plans for who you guys are gonna main first?

I'm gonna try most of the weird or unexpected choices. I think when I first played Brawl, I immediately beat Story Mode, and then played as only ROB for a while.

And Wolf Link. And Midna. And Midna with Wolf Link. And Vatti. And Skull Kid (minus actually still being wanted).

Also, this needs to be said... Navi is better than Fi. No really, Fi needs to learn to shut the heck up, because she makes Navi look bearable.

It's too bad you can't torture people in Zelda, because boy oh boy, I would go straight up medieval on Navi and especially Fi!!!
Every Zelda companion is better than Fi

I've had arguments with friends over Medusa or Palutena. There are people who say she's getting in, but it's nowhere near prevelent.

I don't take the whole "rep" thing seriously myself, I just use it because most people go by it, plus it's just a glorified version of a bunch of other random arguments for her out there. I'm not complaining about Palutena being in (not sure if this is part of that, I'm no Phoenix Wright), and I'm planning on maining her for quite some time.

I don't know that much about Ghirahim in terms of where he stands in Smash. But the competition for the Zelda characters now is different than pre-Brawl (where we had multiple one-shots going against each other). Really, who's Ghirahim's competition (I'm ignoring his one-shot status just for now)? Tingle, Toon Zelda, and Impa?

In addition with what was just said, saying "Ghirahim is the Zant of SSB4" assumes that, even being congruent themselves which is false, but Brawl and SSB4 are congruent situations, which is also overtly false. We are fully aware that newcomers this time around face a different situation in this game than they did last time, why are we ignoring this fact now?

In addition, back in the pre-Brawl days, Zant had to contest with not only Skull Kid, but people pining for Midna and Wolf Link and Vaati. People still want Skull Kid apparently, and Vaati has died down a lot since then, but looking at what is desired for Zelda newcomers now and what was desired then shows two very different circumstances character wise as well. Edit: Like Croph mentions, the names being brought up in terms of Zelda newcomers these days are not the most compelling choices. If I'm to make a character comparison of my own, they're like the "Masked Salesman" of this generation of smashers. Seriously, that guy in the pre-Brawls days got about as much love as some of the Zelda newcomer ideas we're seeing now, Ghirahim and Skull Kid aside.

Plus I still say Ghirahim has more potential to return than Zant.

Holder likes him.

But really, the only thing different is Vatti, Midna, and Wolf Link's fanbase have died, whereas Tingle still has a fanbase, and now Toon Zelda, Toon Sheik, and Toon Tetra have fanbases (and Groose is the new joke character people want).

Wait, wait, wait.

People are actually SERIOUS about Tingle?

There always will be those people weirdos around who like that freak.

Also, I just realized that Ghirahim is like the 6th "fake main villain" after Aghahim (similar name, lol!), Skull Kid, the two final bosses in Oracle of Ages and Seasons (Ganon was the main villain), and Zant.

I like how the character discussions here are neglecting gameplay reasons for this and that right now.

On another note, has Reggie lost weight?

TBH I'd just rather good characters get in an leave the gameplay to the developers to figure out

But then what makes for a good character if you don't factor in gameplay?

I base it on characters I have had emotional attachments to throughout the years from games I've enjoyed. Characters whose stories are great, etc.

Yeah I'm usually in that mindset.
But, it is usually stressed to come up with for movesets to prove to others on the net that the character has potential.

I like to think we provide the fan favorite characters/source materials and it's the dev's job to work with the source material. a good example is Pheonix Wright in MvC3. Many people were demanding him (although i thin 35% of them were just trolling) but regardless Capcom took up the challenge. Another example that didn't turn out good is Sonic for brawl.

Because people are dumb thinking that the outside is the most important, even though the inner workings are more important in the long run. How a character works can make or break it.

And to open people and fans up to new series. I never would have FE'd, ever.
Same for me with a lot of Nintendo series including Zelda, Fire Emblem, Kid Icarus and Metroid.

Before I heard of Melee and Smash Bros. overall, I only knew about the Mario, Donkey Kong, Wario and Pokémon series.
And I didn't even know that the Mario series (incl. DK and Wario) and the Pokémon series were both Nintendo, so when I first heard of SSB, I was like "WTF?What are Mario and Pikachu doing in this game? That's freaking epic!" When I learnt that they were all characters by the same company, I was like "Mind = blown."

I was 10 years old when this happened and I received Melee as present in my 11th birthday. 9 years later, and here I am!
