Honestly, the only reason Snake was confirmed early IMO was to confirm 3rd party characters could happen, and to rally everyone to get SEGA to give Nintendo the rights to Sonic so he could be in Brawl. This time around, we all know 3rd party characters can happen (including developers), so they've probably already pitched their characters to Nintendo and/or Sakurai.
If it makes you feel any better I always thought his chances were 0%.
I had Lloyd's chances at 4% at the best. Yes, I used SCIENCEEEEE to reach that number.
Also pointing out that GameFAQs is dumb is like pointing out that water is wet.
GameFAQS is stupid more often than water is wet. After all, water can be ice or steam!

Pac-Man doesn't interest me. At the same time, I don't hate him, so I'm rather neutral to his inclusion.

Even if he's in, for God's sake, keep away his new creepy face from Smash!

I gotta disagree; an early confirmation of a 3rd party IMO makes the least sense. The "will they/won't they" drama also attracts a lot more hype/attention.
The problem with that is that no one cares about any possible third-party newcomers in a significant amount aside from Mega Man.

Gotta love that floor collision... where half his shoes just sink into the ground. :glare:

Put that fear to rest permanently because nobody at the Smash 4 team would be stupid enough to do that.

Jesus Christ what the hell is with Pacman's face...?

The idea of a Namco character is just so silly. Just because they're a bunch of hired hands doesn't mean they get a character in as a freebie. It's completely up to Sakurai, and why would he go for all the poor choices Namco has to offer. "Oh yeah, Pac-Man, that relic that offers nothing of value, cool." Like if someone offers to piss in your hands for free, you don't say thank you. I'm not sure you would say thank you otherwise anyhow... I'm not sure this metaphor really works, actually.

POINT IS, you need more than a bunch of superficial reasoning to make a Namco character make sense. Remember how nobody cared about them before we knew they were developing Smash? The whole nobody cares about Namco characters still applies.

Namco needs to create more memorable characters. When even small studios like Camelot can create Waaa, what is stopping Namco? :troll:

Honestly at the end of the day, I can care less who makes it into SSB4. I just want to see the game!
All I know is that, when that trailer drops we will all $h!t bricks.

Even if there are characters we don't like; 6 months post release, we'll just suck it up or just use them as punching bags.

I've wanted Pac-Man since like 2005, because he could be made great by Miyamoto and Sakurai, and because of the history he encompasses.
The problem with that is that no one cares about any possible third-party newcomers in a significant amount aside from Mega Man.
1. Many people care about other 3rd party characters inclusions, and Pac-Man is easily #2.
2. They keyword is "yet" (not many people care "yet"). Pac-Man would certainly create hype, as he is possibly the most well-known video game character ever.
3. Pac-Man changed video games forever, and the historical importance of the character and series IMO is even greater than Sonic's.
4. Smash seems to be all over the "retro" past, and Pac-Man fits into that category better than even Mario, G&W, and ROB.

"Poor" and "offers nothing of value" are subjective.
Aside from that, if you really want to get into a Namco possibility that has been quite a popular suggestion for years (despite what Sakurai said about characters of his kind in regards to Brawl), then pretty much you're stuck with this:

Whether or not it's a "good" thing depends on the individual.

Not to sound like SmashChu, but maybe third parties are a bad idea at this point.
After how incredibly unique Sonic and Snake were in Brawl, this is just stupid. Those two brought a ton of unique ideas and moves to smash.

Smash speculation shouldn't change that, especially considering how superior they were in construction compared to fellow like :rob: , :pit: , and :pt: .

Even knowing that, I expect little other than possibly Mega Man, especially considering that Sakurai seems reluctant. I'm sure I'll be proven wrong about them at E3, but I'm just not really enthused about anything else.

On Namco, I actually think that if they were to push for a character, it would likely be from one of their more obscure franchises. Pac-man, as a lot of people have already pointed out, is very popular and well known even by non-gamers, so he doesn't really need the exposure Smash would give him. Now, Namco could instead use this as an opportunity to promote one of their lesser known franchises. IDK which one, but if it were up to me it'd likely be a Tales character.

It would probably end up being a Tales character.

Well dunno man, but Snake and Sonic had already enough exposure yet we got 'em despite anything. I don't think SSB can be really be used much as a marketing tool for 3rd parties?

It doesn't matter if Pac-man is some sort of historic figure, being known does not automatically mean inclusion. Pac-man might of been a thing during the 80's, but the character is pretty washed up these days. People clamor that they will care about Pac-man due to his iconic status, but in reality nobody is really going to care that much about Pac-man, because they are more talking about the legacy with the game Pac-man not the character. People in general don't care much about the character Pac-man, and it shows.

He makes varies appearances in different media, but it's usually received as lukewarm at best.
