So guys, what are the plans for New Years?
Playing games with the family, watching some shows, celebrating the New Years with noisemakers. That's about it. We don't usually do something huge for New Years, and I'm fine and happy with that as it is. I'm also watching a couple of Blind Zelda LPs. I'll still probably be hanging around the Smashboards every now and then today regardless of all that.

Off topic but I know some of you guys are huge Fire Emblem fans. After getting Fire Emblem Awakening 8 months ago, I FINALLY have made enough progress in my back catalog to get to it and I'm going through it. That being said, what characters do you guys recommend?
Make sure you get Donnel to join and level him up like nobody's business. His growth stats are godly. Also, Lon'qu was really useful playing through.

I'm spending my last hours of 2013 with my family at home.
Not a flashy party, but I love spending time with them, so I can't complain.

Anyways, happy New Year, everyone! Smash Bros. is coming! 2014 will be rad.

Also, inb4 Nintendo markets Smash heavily next year.

I've never understood the appeal of watching Let's Plays.

I'd much rather play games than watch other people play them.
If there is commentary during the LP I can totally understand watching them. I remember I once watched some Halo LPs solely for the commentary made by the people playing the game. Was freaking hilarious.

For me I mostly watch Blind LPs to see how people react to certain situations or certain enemies. Sometimes I can get a good laugh depending on the situation. In the end I'm also glad to hear their thoughts on the game they played through, and I'm also happy for them when they manage to achieve certain things.

Regardless I do agree that playing games is much more enjoyable than watching others play it.

Also, I forgot to mention, watching a LP, at least some of the beginning of it, can help you figure out what the game will play like and be like. Doing that made me end up wanting to get Gears of war when I finally got a 360, which happened at Christmas. So there is also that.

I mainly watch LPs (w/commentary) for either just comedy, or comedy while getting to see a game I haven't played.

I can understand briefly watching a LP just to get a feel for what a game is like.

Watching an entire play through is a whole nother story lol.

It depends on who you are watching.

Some people offer comedy.

Others offers trivia and advice.

There's a lot of different people with different styles.

However, I think a major part is for people to see what that person's opinion is on the game/certain parts.

there are also people who make idiotic comments while playing the game and do stupid things. Like that one FEA LP I watched before the game was released in NA. Half the time the guy had no idea what he was talking about and I just wanted to go through my screen and knock some sense into him. xD

Pewdiepie? Hell no.

I only watched a few of his Amnesia vids. Only a few were even remotely entertaining to me. Everything else I tried watching was just annoying garbage to me.

I usually stick to TheRunawayGuys, Tobygames and a few others. And whoever else I come across when it comes to looking for Blind LPs.

I usually watch gameplays to see how the game works, it's everything I really need to get excited with a game I have some doubts. And yeah, I don't like watching a whole playthrough of a game I'm interested, that's silly and nothing worth it.

Hmmm...

Sometimes I watch the Game Grumps, I like it better with Danny now, he's more interesting to listen to than Jon ever was. A lot of his life stories really hit close to home, in some ways.

Wasn't very long ago that I first heard of the Game Grumps (a few months ago at least) and started watching some of their videos just recently.
So far I've been enjoying their videos.

I liked some of his older horror vid stuff, but now he's kinda meh. The only pretty mainstream Youtube gamer I can keep watching is Markiplier (*hipster Niko*).

Personally I'm watching DSP's Alan Wake playthrough again. The dude's kinda annoying and boring sometimes, but he has some golden playthroughs scattered around (this being one of them).

Game Grumps is the only LP channel I watch. I loved Egoraptor's stuff and I loved JonTron's stuff, so I thought "this is gonna be awesome" when they announced the channel.
When Jon left, Danny and Ross entered. As I also loved Danny's and Ross' stuff, I kept watching, no prob.

But I can see why people wouldn't like them.
I also miss Arin's videos, sometimes. He says GG isn't holding down his work for Egoraptor, but the lack of uploads in his channel for the last, like, 7 months say otherwise.
At least we got that awesome Starbomb videoclip last month.

I don't see why there is so much love for him

I tried to make it through one video and it was so irritating I couldn't.
It depends on your sense of humour, I guess. I like them pretty much because it's the only way for me to disconnect and have a nice 5-8 minutes per day.

It's also because there are so many actually GOOD LP's, not to mention Youtubers out there and yet Pewdiepie is the no 1 youtuber out there and he only has to put minimal effort for his work.

Do you know what it's like for a youtubers to put effort in their work and spend weeks editing and adding effects, when in the same time Pewdiepie can grind out like 100 videos with minimal effort? More views = more money and the views are not equivalent to how much effort he puts into is work

I'm subscribed to Chuggaaconroy, TheRunawayguys, and Game Grumps.

Chuggaaconroy is awesome because he's one of the more positive people on the internet. He not only offers trivia and strategy, but also likes to talk about the amazing qualities rather than constantly complain. He shows off the game rather than himself, which you rarely see.

I do sometimes watch other people LPs to see how they feel about a game. I also need to catch up with Game Grumps.

I was going to drink 'till I passed out or threw up.

But I am sick. So there goes ALL my plans.

I've never been sick on a holiday before

Edit: Although I may have that second part already covered...

I don't understand why people watch TobyGames... or Tobuscus... or Toby Turner... seriously? 3 channels? GTFO with your youtube money.

as for PewDiePie, i promised myself that I will not subscribe to Pewds until he shows up on the Co Optional Podcast. but the main reason why i haven't subscribed is mostly the blatant screaming for funny. and i don't watch PewDiePie and Friends even if it has Dodger and Jesse Cox.

LPs i watch: ChuggaConroy, GameGrumps (i never stopped... in fact, I have watched every episode... well, except for Kings Quest V, i liked Space Quest but i guess some medieval point and click isn't interesting to me after 2 episodes), Jesse Cox, Super Best Friends Play (Sw1tcher)... for some reason, i am subscribed to HuskyStarcraft even though i don't watch starcraft... i think it was because of the Pokemon Blue LP he had, Conker King (still watching dat Developers Lets play of Conker), Miles923... technically, it's not a lets play but i do watch him play fighting games sooo... YoVideogames, ThatOneLaserClown (i like the completionist... and i met him in person when i went to E3 once every day), Markiplier, for some reason i am still subscribed to NintendoCaprisun even though i dont watch his videos anymore, TotalHalibut... i know Totalbiscuit doesn't LP..

Because he's loud.... and annoying.

retsupurae covers my sentiment toward PDP quite well:

Also, making **** jokes is soooooo funny and mature :glare:
People seriously find his jokes about **** and his insistent screaming funny?

This isn't about "Not having that kind of humor" this is more about "Being a normal, functioning human being with a sense of decency"
