Mostly just idiots who weren't here on the internet pre-Brawl.

Literally the Sonic confirmation crashed the internet, and killed Smash Boards for months at a time.

It was the front page on every gaming site for a week, the front page of Yahoo, the front page of MSN, etc.

It was a big freaking deal. Bigger than any character confirmation will ever be in Smash Bros, EVER!!!!

Just so you know, after Brawl's reveal in 2005 the only character confirmation we had FOR A WHOLE YEAR was Fox.
For Sm4sh, we're already at 5 in a few months.
This gives me hopes for the entire roster number and the release date both.

Not naming names, the "Sonic will be cut" people could not get over their own bitterness that Smash now features well-received third party characters that 'taint' the purity of Smash, and used that as reasoning as to why they would suddenly vanish in this game (as if Mega Man was ever not going to happen). To a lesser degree, others got inside their own heads and obsessed over the semantics of 'guest' characters and tried to compare Smash to other fighters in terms of guest policies when Sakurai designs Smash as his contrarian response to other fighters. If this song isn't in Windy Hill or the 3DS stage, I'll break down. It's like the song incarnation of Sonic himself.

Ew, no. I'd rather have the Act 2 song. Actually, I'd rather have Planet Wisp, Asteroid Coaster or Terminal Velocity.

But if anything, I'd love Modern Green Hill, Modern Speed Highway or Classic Emerald Coast. I have others to name off, but don't wanna go overboard...

Well to be fair, most people were nice about it, but a certain individual was a real butthole about it. A game a certain forum is based off and Pichu comes to mind oddly enough.

The Nintendo Direct revealed that Bravely Default will be released here in Europe on December 6. Never played a Square Enix RPG, but I've heard many good things about the game, so I think I'll try this one.

It can still happen. We only saw Sonic's Smash Wii U stage, and Sonic likely has a new 3DS stage as well, and maybe another Wii U or 3DS stage as well.

Also, Emerald Hill Zone, Angel Island Zone, Emerald Coast, and City Escape would be fantastic stages as well.

I know right=??? SO HYPED FOR THAT!!! It's like they bringing back everything I love from Melee back. Now we just need the Melee tether recovery system back!!!

I was thinking it is possible we could get a Mario-related character revealed in November (Diddy Kong? Wario? Yoshi? Dr. Mario? [lol] A Mario newcomer?), but yeah, in all likelihood we'll get a Zelda character confirmed next month, and that will be that. Personally, I got a feeling it won't be Ganondorf; he'll be for later.

Also, something tells me that for a long stretch of updates Sakurai wants stages and music to be the focus. Seeing as how we have 17 characters confirmed and a ton of obvious veterans to go, it seems as if Sakurai plans on revealing the veterans at a frantic pace, then he has something planned in between that and the newcomer reveals.

Man, this place is going to explode if character reveals suddenly become a weekly thing. Something tells me that, besides the obvious Pokemon reveal next week, we'll get one more for the month that nobody will see coming (my bet is on Lucas/Ness or Marth/Ike). A character reveal on Halloween would be epic but nobody really comes to mind that would suit that day (Ridley? Ashley?).

I highly doubt it was just a coincidence. I see it more as Luigi was going to be revealed that day anyway, and the Direct happened to happen then.

What? Luigi was obviously revealed to promote Dream Team first and foremost. If there wasn't a Direct, why wouldn't he just be revealed as close to release as the other characters (Olimar and TL) have been?

However, similar to what Wariofan1 said, there's two times Sakurai reveals a character; On the release date of one of their games(not a past game, one that's releasing that day), or when an announcement for a key game is going to be released soon.

Luigi was probably planned to be revealed for Dream Team before the Direct was even planned, but when the Direct was formulated, and it was decided to be on the seventh, Luigi was pushed up to then, as it would have much larger reception as part of a Direct. The reveal's date was scheduled around the Direct, not the other way around. It's the same for Sonic. If there was no Direct, chances are the reveal would be closer to the actual release date, like all the others who didn't have a Direct, yet still had a game they were promoting.

I was surprised he didn't wait to reveal Sonic. But Sakurai and Nintendo working together for reveals wouldn't be surprise me.

If there was no Direct and they revealed him now, yeah, I'd be surprised too. But they wants to capitalize off the viewership of Directs, so really it's not that surprising.

And yeah, Nintendo and Sakurai are clearly working together for these reveals, I very much doubt this is the order they'd be in without Nintendo wanting to promote things.
