Everything is soul binding when your console sold less than 50,000 units average for 3 months. If that "trend" continues, Nintendo will likely lose possibly tens of billions in the Wii U. And yes, the Dojo does create hype. It averages hundreds of thousands of viewers, and seeing as how Melee is the reason why millions of people bought 'cubes and the Wii had similar numbers with Brawl, I would say this franchise is a big time console mover.
For ****'s sake, Sakurai. Look at all that resizing! How can someone that does this so much has the audacity to say Ridley is big!?
Sakurai said Ridley is big, not too big.

Idiots just added words to his sentence, change his first name to Yusakaraharra, and said he invented Star Fox.

Yeah no way I can see Smash 4 being pushed beyond 2014. I still think November 2014 is going to be the release date. At worst, Sakurai will have to delay the 3DS version. By Q4, a Mario 3D platformer and Mario Kart will already be out, and the Wii U will need a mass appeal title to move platforms, of which only Smash 4 fits the bill.

2014 in general is going to be rough for the Wii U. What little third-party the console is getting now, will slow down to a tiny trickle once many companies stop even making big budget 360/PS3 titles, of which only Ubisoft, Warner Bros. Interactive, and Disney Interactive are even bothering to port to the Wii U right now. I think Disney and Sega could very well be the only two making Wii U titles in 2014, aside from Nintendo and those collaborating with them.

Though in terms of first party software at least the first half of 2014 will look better. Yoshi's Epic Yarn, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, X, SMT X FE, and of course Smash 4 are tentatively 2014 titles, and of them, I can only see X and SMT X FE being delayed to 2015. There of course could be a few surprise first-party announcements that happen.

A lot of people said that Brawl would no way be released later than 2007, or that Pikmin 3 wouldn't be released later than 2012.

Melee had at least one delay; Brawl had at least two delays.

Plus, an early 2015 release date might be easier, seeing as how Holiday/Fall 2014 will be cramped with lots of titles, such as perhaps Zelda Wii U, perhaps a new Tomb Raider, perhaps Final Fantasy XV, probably a few huge Sony games (Uncharted 4? The return of Jak & Daxter?), Halo 5 (probably), The 3rd version or "sequel" version(s) to Pokémon X & Y, a new Call of Duty, a new Assassin's Creed, and possibly a Xbox One, PS4, PC, and even Wii U port of GTA V.

I mean with an early 2015 release, you avoid just about all of those potential giants, and you have a largely untapped market and hype period to yourselves Big N!!!
I'm aware of that. My comment was meant to be a silly joke.
He can never talk about sizes, as he himself doesn't care about sizes.
I know you know that smash brothah. ;)
I was just using what you said to say that so I could rub more salt (and acid!) in the wounds of the Ridley haters and size "canon" arguers!

Oh, and guys, my point on Ridley's "size" remains... ...RIDLEY IS TOO BIG TO NOT BE PLAYABLE IN SMASH BROS!!!!

You heard that from the UNDISPUTED Ridley and SmashBoards CHAMPION OF THE SMASH WORLD!!!!

Falchion guessed perfectly that today's update will be a filler one.
Not exactly. Now we know Olimar is now bigger than Kirby and it looks like Kirby got bigger to begin with. This really raises a lot of questions as to what' going on with the game now. Are they trying to reduce the size range for balance reasons?

Toad is a pretty bland character in the Mario series (they are more notable for being cowards and inept body guards than anything else aside from Blue and Yellow Toad, and the Toad that was the main protagonist for Super Mario Bros. 2 and Wario's Woods).

Yet I would far more like to see Toad than any other Mario character. I think for many who support the characters they do, its not so much for "moveset potential", but rather they greatly enjoy the games they are from, or just like playing as them in the games they are from.
I think that too, but I wouldn't mind Toad if he was in, and he's currently my most wanted Mario newcomer mainly because he would complete the classic SMB1 and SMB2 Mario casts.

I'd also like Waluigi and Bowser Jr. for SSB4, but Toad has higher priority due to being a classic recurring character/species and a sort of "all-star."

There's two things I'd REALLY like the team to give Toad if they put him in:

-The ability to hoist and move around with opponents and large items over his head like Donkey Kong as a reference to his power and speed with plucking and carrying vegetables in SMB2; Peach has her floating ability, so why not?

-A palette swap or costume based off Papa from Doki Doki Panic. (maybe changing Toad's head texture from spots to a turban?)

I still think Toad would be awesome as a Lightning Grappler.

Might this give new hope for Ridley?
*Sakurai talks about how Olimar is canonically smaller than Kirby
*makes Olimar slightly taller than Kirby

It does not give "new hope" to Ridley so much as it hopefully makes the idiots shut up when it comes to the canonical size in comparison to other characters in Smash Bros. Unfortunately, I am not holding my breath about it.

It would be pretty sweet to wake up one day and see the forums exploded due to a Ridley confirmation.

All the titles you mentioned is exactly the reason why Nintendo has to have Smash 4 (at least the Wii U version) ready for release for Q4 2014.

Zelda Wii U most likely won't be released for 2014, it was still in the planning stages earlier this year, and was not even shown at E3. Zelda Wii U is most likely a 2015 title.

I don't think the Wii U is going to get any big budget multi-platform games after 2013 as well. Though I suppose its possible Nintendo might convince Konami to make a Wii U port of MGS5 considering its a 2015 360/PS3 title.

I can't think of anything that will allow Toad to be such a character
Eh, I got tired of Brawl after I found out it was boring competitively and casually for me, but eh, Brawl mods.

BTW, YEAH MODDING COMMUNITIES!! They make games so much better. Fallout: New Vegas had terrible glitches, but thanks to the modding community, they fixed most of them, added stuff, and made that game awesome (btw, I totally got the complete edition on a Steam sale for $5 and I have been playing it since).

I don't even need to mention how great the Brawl modding community is. But seriously, go to the Brawl Vault to check out how AMAZING THEY ARE!!!
I wasn't talking about Brawl specifically, but rather Smash in general.
64- Played that game for hours on end when it came out. I remember playing that game from 3pm to 9:30pm with 6 friends losing 2 would have to cycle off (Of course I never gave up the controller)
Melee- Who hasn't clocked in 150+ hours on that game!
Brawl- While I don't find myself playing it as much as I did 64 and Melee, I can play it for 12hours straight if i wanted to.

Agree'd. Modding helped to make Skyrim loads better for me. Still haven''t touched Project M. waiting for Yoshi.

Guys, as a moral hard-working Sakurai-fearing Smasher, today's picture doesn't shake my faith in Sakurai's ability to uphold the traditional definition of canon between one playable character and one NOT-TOO-BIG size. As a matter of fact, I think today's picture doesn't really exist, but was planted there by Satan to test my faith.

How do you know it wasn't Sakurai himself to test your faith? Need I remind you of the time he tested Donkey Kong by making him sacrifice Diddy?

Yea. 30mins

I believe in the DK trinity: Cranky King the father, Donkey Kong the Son and Wrinkly Kong the holy ghost.

I'm not expecting any Smash-related info to come from today's Direct (if it happens, I predict Little Mac), but hopefully, there will be some new content on Tropical Freeze, like the elusive fourth Kong, or maybe some new David Wise music. Or maybe some obvious character who should by all means be a lock for the game like Cranky will be teased and revealed as if it's a major bone thrown to the fans. Who can tell?

With the Nintendo Direct, I'm honestly not surprised today's update was the way it was. It doesn't take much for people to get hyped about Smash Bros and with Nintendo trying to stage a comeback for the Wii U this winter, Iwata's probably sitting on Sakurai as we speak to make sure he doesn't reveal anything that will steal the fall lineup's thunder this week.

I think this Direct is focused on games coming out in 2013, so I don't think we'll see anything smash related... but who knows.

I think it's either Funky or Cranky

Imagine if it really was Cranky Kong.

It'd be funny seeing him smack around the enemies with his cane and rocking chair.

Still sorta hoping it's K. Rool, just....cause I want him in Smash, I guess. And he hasn't been in any DK games recently.
