Honestly with characters we do want all we have left is Hope we just have to hope that the characters we want get in Isaac hopefully has a fair shot although if Isabelle is true then we probably know where the direction of characters is going and that fan service may be small or minimal
Isabelle would be fanservice. She would have recency on her side but she's not just a tool for promotion. She has sizable popularity.

No. But Vergebutt's latest "leak" has made me lose all hope for him.

Every leak that has Isaac, I'm inherently distrusting of. Every leak which doesn't include him, I tend to believe on instinct.

The truth is, I just don't think he's going to get in. He's a character from a niche series, in a niche genre, that Nintendo just doesn't care about.

Now we're supposedly getting Isabelle. Are we? Who knows. But it's probably more right than wrong. The costume characters have a better chance of the irrelevant missing characters. Geno, K. Rool, Ashley, Isabelle... They got costumes because of fan demand and the ballot, and they'll get into Smash Ultimate for the same reason. Isaac's support just isn't enough to get him in.

Camelot says that the future of Golden Sun rests of fan demand, and we clearly don't have enough right now. The only way to increase that is to increase his visibility. Which means Smash. Which isn't going to happen until we get a new game that Nintendo can advertise.

Ashley and Isabelle are basically the opposite of Isaac. They are recent, trendy characters with no move potential, versus an old classic with the biggest move set possibility in Nintendo's library. K. Rool may have had enough votes to get in. Isaac doesn't. And he's not recent enough for anyone at Nintendo to care.

I don't care at all for Animal Crossing. I played the game for about ten minutes and gave up, bored out of my mind. I don't hate Ashley, but she does almost nothing in the Wario Ware series, literally just showing up for a couple of tiny cutscenes and then vanishing. If these characters get in while Isaac doesn't, I'm going to be pissed.

So, yeah. I don't care anymore. I'm worn down and frustrated and unhappy and depressed and the game is basically ruined for me. All because some ****ing asshole has to pretend he's a messenger from Sakurai whose word is law.

Since having a new Gematsu means that Isabelle's fans are going to become like those of the Chorus Kids back in Smash 4 (the most toxic jerks I've dealt with in ages), I'm going to hate the character just as much as I do them. More if she actually makes it in. And there are going to be a LOT of characters that I'm going to actively hate when they make it in over Isaac.

Not K. Rool. He's worthy in his own right. There may be one or two more. But I think I'm going to hate at least half the characters added. Including the Echoes. And it wouldn't be productive or polite to rage about how much I hate them.

Isaac in Smash is dead. Nintendo doesn't care, and Golden Sun will never come back.

Isabelle is the closest thing Nintendo has to an all-star that isn't already in. It's really downplaying her impact when you write her off as some sort of flavor-of-the-month trend.

Hell, that's coming from someone who doesn't enjoy Animal Crossing at all, so I'm not trying to push an agenda. Animal Crossing is one of Nintendo's biggest franchises, and Isabelle is the definitive face of it. She has no effect on Isaac's chances; she was always likely anyway.

From the sound of things, you just need some time off from Smash speculation. I think many of us get the being worn down from it all (The tragedy of Smash 4’s lineup I think will stand as a moment that broke many of us in a similar manner). Leaks that don’t mention your character always hurt and lead to further negativity surrounding their chances. If they’re getting to you that much, take some time away from Ultimate speculation or at the very least, supposed “leaks” from this game.

Now that said, this recent Isabelle “rumor” doesn’t put nearly the thorn in the side of Isaac’s chances that you think. It’s unfortunately true we don’t the direction of the roster, or the likelihood of characters getting in with such limited spaces. The “relevancy” argument could hold and a bunch of us would up looking like fools. Everything in Ultimate would point to something else though, a game made for the fans with their feedback playing a critical role in deciding the elements of the game.

Vergeben doesn’t have near the credibility people will ascribe him with. He has a few things right, but his biggest claims are still unfounded. This only adds to that issue for the time being. For all intensive purposes, his leak is about as relevant as anyone who got lucky with no cuts, Ridley, and Ice Climbers pre-E3 for now.

And even if Isabelle in, she’s one of the most likely Echo fighters cause A. She can actually fit the model of Echo fighter without too much issue and B. She’d be difficult to make a more original move set with that doesn’t just fit what Villager already covers. She’s far from unique, and most people have already pushed that sentiment of her as an Echo. Again, this could be wrong, and I’d eat crow, but I think that stands as the most plausible scenario if true.

That all kind of adds up to a scenario where it is just still too early to give up the ghost on Isaac. The next newcomer could be King K Rool and swing things back in his favor, or the next reveal could be him in all of his glory. We’ve only had two newcomer reveals out of what is probably around 6-7 total for this game. None of this really guarantees Isaac, but it does put him in one of the better situations following the poor performance of Dark Dawn and his assist’s removal in 4.

That wasn't my intention, though I realize I phrased it badly.

She's a relatively new character. She originated in New Leaf on the 3DS. Her popularity has exploded since then, and on a fairly consistent curve. She showed up in Happy Home Designer and Amiibo Festival (IIRC, anyway). She's shown up in Monster Hunter, Mario Kart, and more. But she's a younger, newer character.

Her birthday is two years after Isaac's last appearance. She's a young, fresh face.

And, while she may have become the face of Animal Crossing since then, she doesn't really fit in Smash (being a pacifist) and doesn't have a lot of move potential (as Villager already covers almost all aspects of the series).

Isaac hasn't shown up in a game since she existed. He has a ready made moveset, and a personality that fits well in Smash. He's got fan support, but no advertising potential. If Isabelle is the sort of character we're getting, then Isaac is not.

Also, taking a break from Smash speculation would be cutting off basically all social contact I have, except for Twitter arguments. So I'm not exactly keen to do that.

Honestly I don't think Isabelle will be an echo due to the major build differences between her and Villager.

Personally I think she'd focus on terraforming, altering the stage by building structures and public works projects, and enacting ordinances. Here's the moveset I came up with for her to better illustrate the idea.

Isabelle Rings In!
Normal Attacks:

Jab: A bee flies in front of Isabelle, so she shuts her eyes and swings her clipboard in front of her to shoo it away, swinging it back and forth with each button press.

Dash Attack: While running, Isabelle notices a swarm of bees behind her, so she hits the deck as the swarm rushes into the opponent, missing her.

Side Tilt: Isabelle tries to catch an unseen bug in her net and swings it forward in a side-to-side motion. A two strike move.

Up Tilt: Isabelle celebrates being in Smash by pulling out a Party Popper and pointing it skyward, unleashing an explosion of confetti in a quick motion.

Down Tilt: A Ring Toss furniture piece appears before Isabelle, slightly in front of her, and she tries to toss a ring onto it. The opponent keeps getting in the way, though.

Aerial Attacks:

Neutral Air: Isabelle takes out her fishing rod and makes a circular ribbon-twirler motion around her with its line.

Forward Air: Isabelle pulls out a giant foam finger and does a scooping motion, of sorts. She just wanted to cheer, but then the foe got in the way.

Back Air: Allergy season sucks. Isabelle sneezes, shooting her backwards and making her slam into the opponent. This can also work as a last ditch recovery effort, similar to Corrin's back air, but in the opposite direction.

Up Air: Isabelle, enjoying the breeze, pulls out a pinwheel and holds it above her. Its edges are sharp and rapidly hit the foe for damage.

Down Air: Isabelle, being a klutz, drops a bag of bells from her pocket. They hurdle down toward the ground and hit the opponent with a resounding thunk.

Smash Attacks:

Forward Smash: Isabelle knocks over a stack of paperwork about 1.5 times her own height, sending it cascading forward as any foe caught in the move gets launched. This is Isabelle's best kill move...just don't tell her that.

Up Smash: Isabelle adores seashells. In this move, she'll play with the shell the mayor gave her, tossing it up in the air and catching it as it descends. While it's airborne, however, it will spin rapidly, causing major damage to those hit by it.

Down Smash: Isabelle poses in celebration as an archway appears over her, quickly falling from the sky. However, if the opponent was on either side of her when the archway was made...well, they're underneath it now. As they get blasted away, Isabelle, horrified, quickly removes the archway, turning it into a leaf.

Grab, Pummel, and Throws:

Grab and Pummel: Isabelle casts her line and snags the foe with her rod, entangling them. Each pummel has her pull on the rod in an attempt to free the line from them, though this ends up being her pummel.

Forward Throw: Isabelle turns on a giant fan that blasts foes away.

Back Throw: Isabelle tries to unhook the foe but ends up tossing them backward as she looks on in horror.

Up Throw: A geyser bursts out beneath the opponent, blasting them upward.

Down Throw: A flowerpot falls from the sky and smashes into the foe, knocking them toward the stage and sending them upward. Isabelle's gonna have to have a talk with the upstairs tenants.

Special Attacks:

Neutral Special: New Leaf - Isabelle tosses a leaf in front of her, skyward. It slowly descends toward the stage. Pressing the button again as it's either on the stage or in the air will transform it into a piece of furniture: either a small one that can be thrown, or a large one that either crushes a foe beneath it as it falls, or can be used as a stage obstacle for the opponent to have to work around. One light and one heavy object can be on the stage at once per Isabelle.

Side Special: Public Works Projects - Like Shulk's Monado Arts, these can be cycled by pressing the button. A set of four symbols appear above Isabelle as they cycle: a water droplet, a flame, an hourglass, and a bell. Selecting one brings a Gyroid onto the stage, which must be protected at all costs, as it has a health bar. If the Gyroid takes too much damage, it will disappear. After it has been guarded enough, it will transform into a permanent object on the stage. Here are the options and their effects.

— Selecting the water droplet creates a small fountain on the stage. The water effect can interrupt foes attempting to approach Isabelle from the air, due to its windbox effect.
— Selecting the flame creates a campfire. Opponents that touch this will get burned, and all explosives that touch it will instantly explode. Additionally, any projectile, either from Isabelle or from her opponent, that passes through the flames will become imbued with the fire effect, doing slightly more damage and automatically setting off explosives.
— Selecting the hourglass creates a small clockpost on the stage. This doesn't reach the foreground and doesn't impact the fight directly, but it does decrease the amount of time needed to defend a Gyroid before a Public Works Project is created.
— Selecting the bell creates a small bell on the stage that Isabelle can ring by going near it (it will automatically activate when she goes near it). This is a sound based attack that damages opponents, buying Isabelle more time.

Only two Public Works Projects can be on the stage at a time per Isabelle. These structures are semi-permanent. They will stay on the stage unless:
— The stage moves in a way that leaves the structures behind, like a touring stage, or
— Isabelle presses and holds her Side Special while next to a structure, instantly dismantling it.

Plan your "town" wisely and use each project to your advantage.

Up Special: Present Balloon - Isabelle holds onto a present balloon and flies upwards. Unlike Villager, she doesn't have free flight during this, making it a much more linear recovery.

Down Special: Beautiful Town Ordinance - Isabelle plants a sign post into the ground as a fenced off area appears on the stage around her. After five seconds (this can be reduced to three with the clock tower public works project), a small garden appears. Standing in the garden allows Isabelle to slowly heal a bit of health back, but she cannot attack while standing in the garden, making her a sitting duck. But by planning out her PWPs and furniture properly, perhaps she can preoccupy the foe long enough to heal a significant chunk of damage. Unlike her Side Special, this garden is not semi-permanent. If a foe attacks the flower bed enough, it will wither away and disappear. Striking it with a fire move will erase it almost instantly. You can only place one flower bed on the stage at a time.

Final Smash: Bell Boom Ordinance

Isabelle enacts the Wealthy Town, or Bell Boom, Ordinance. In this move, heavy bags of bells rain from the sky before bursting on impact on the stage. This causes massive damage both to the foe and to the economy.

Playstyle Notes:

Isabelle is a very defensive-oriented character. From a cosmetic standpoint, none of her moves are intended to bring harm to the opponent, but the circumstances surrounding the fight make her accidentally bring harm to them.

Where Isabelle truly shines is her set of specials, as they dictate her playstyle: she is a cute and clumsy terraformer, being able to alter the stage to her heart's content. This showcases a key aspect of the Animal Crossing series, which is town planning and interior decorating. Isabelle, being the assistant mayor, oversees a lot of the day to day town planning, and as such she is the perfect character for something like this.

Though that's getting a bit far from Isaac lol.

Almost forgot. Characters already appearing in Smash 4, like Isabelle, were unlikely to get as heavy ballot support, as people believed they were already "locked out" of the game. So the ballot is probably not nearly as important as we thought if she's in.

Honestly I don't think that stopped as many people as you'd think. Lots of people didn't see an existing role being a death sentence. I sure didn't, considering the huge amount of Chrom votes I sent in over different devices. :p

Man it's always so weird to me that people don't want leaks. I mean yeah the abundance of fake ones suck but I want to know if Isaac made it as soon as freaking possible. I love it when true leaks drop because it takes forever to know the full roster and sometimes even the fake ones help whittle the time away.
Also on the subject of Isabelle I really doubt she'll make it. I get some fans give her a terraforming moveset but that doesn't mean Sakurai would see that as a way to represent her. Remember all the Daisy fans who swore she wouldn't be a Peach clone? Also man I wouldn't be very happy with her inclusion not because I hate her or anything but she's just so peaceful I'd actually feel bad fighting her.

Well, as a fan of Animal Crossing I certainly appreciate the unique move set of Isabelle you’ve posted here. You’re clearly a fan who knows their stuff and if she had a move set like that I’d be much more inclined to have her as unique.

Though I’m still not convinced she won’t be an Echo. Structurally she is a little different from Villager, but I think it’s still fine to manipulate her a little given she’s not too far removed. I unfortunately think it’s either an Echo or nothing for her. Again I’d love to be pleasantly surprised in this regard.

But yeah, she’s far from Isaac. I think I’m going to start a playthrough of Golden Sun soon if I can just find my GBA charger, I can’t stand trying to play games on the Micro I have.

Man it's always so weird to me that people don't want leaks. I mean yeah the abundance of fake ones suck but I want to know if Isaac made it as soon as freaking possible. I love it when true leaks drop because it takes forever to know the full roster and sometimes even the fake ones help whittle the time away.
Think of it like this: You'll eventually know the final roster anyways, no matter what. But if you get tipped off on some of Sakurai's decisions, the surprise that is intended with their eventual confirmation is something you will never get to have. It happened with Roy and Ryu being datamined twice, and those reveals would've blown the fans away.

Imagine if Cloud had ended up that same way.

I'd only want to know about Isaac's fate ahead of time if he wasn't going to be playable so the band-aid of disappointment could be ripped off quickly. Otherwise, keep me in the dark because that will be a priceless experience for me.

I mean I was surprised when the datamine was revealed. And then I was hyped for Roy to return and waited for his announcement. Also Ryu was meh to me but it didn't reveal his awesome moveset so it didn't take away the wow factor from his reveal. I'm impervious to having an experience ruined due to spoilers or leaks since they don't really take away from anything. I'd rather know as fast as possible so I can spend the rest of my time celebrating and because I'm impatient.

This is exactly me right here!

I would love to know where Isaac stands in Smash Ultimate asap because he is the only character I want in and it is eating me alive day after day.

That "leaker" that mentioned how Europe voted Isaac a lot made me hope that's what gets Isaac in. If so, I will love you Europe folk forever. Lol

We should never lose hope, if we surrend, then GS series and Isaac die. Leak or not leak, we have to believe in this, and just wait to the launch of the game.

Exactly this, even if Isaac doesn't make it in as a fighter there is still additional characters they can add post launch and this isn't like Smash 4 since the Wii U was on its way out and Smash Ultimate began development during the development of DLC so they might want to support this one in a better light for a longer amount of time. We should never stop raising our voices no matter how low the chances look

I have hope about Isaac simply because we have this much discussion about him. Sure his series is long dormant but that doesn't really matter when you have this much discussion in only one place about him

I can only imagine how much support he's getting elsewhere

Like this thread has several new posts each day, that's pretty good for some b-list Nintendo character supposedly nobody knows

A character widely expected to get in possibly getting in is no real reason to revamp your entire perspective surrounding this roster considering both that she very well could be an echo and that one character is rarely sufficient to validate a trend.

Let's take a breath here and not jump to conclusions just yet.

Honestly I don't think that stopped as many people as you'd think. Lots of people didn't see an existing role being a death sentence. I sure didn't, considering the huge amount of Chrom votes I sent in over different devices. :p
I don't think it stopped people, but given that the ballot linked itself to one game more so than the series as a whole, I do think it shifted a greater amount of focus onto characters without a notable role. Isaac himself seems a testament to that.

I mean there's that famous graphic of top contenders during the Smash Ballot, and in it that they dismissed assist trophy characters because they were "already accounted for". Even now I hear people say that being an assist, just locks you out of becoming DLC for some reason. To extend that argument, Isaac not being an assist probably raised a lot of people's hopes of him becoming DLC. I don't know. It feels like a truism that people's perception of a person's likeliness of winning affects whether they'll vote for them or not.

In the unfortunate event that Isaac doesn't get in, I hope Sakurai can at least manage to incorporate at least one new series into Smash this go. I think basically every actual franchise Nintendo has deserves a playable representative, so I'd love to see him finally include a couple of series in any way possible.

Honestly, Isaac is my least certain of the irrelvancy trio I support so strongly with King K. Rool and Geno. Which is a shame, because he should honestly feel more likely by this point, but who knows. I will say that between his likely strong turnout in the ballot, coming from a completely non-represented franchise, and move set potential he should have so much larger of a shot than most characters. I never expected I'd ever come across the day where I'd see Geno actually gaining more ground than Isaac (Don't make such a big deal of this, until the whole Mii costume affair Geno's chances were abysmal at best). Isaac feels like he should be alongside King K. Rool as most requested and likely newcomer with "less relevancy" in all honesty.

Damn we need news. I want to talk more about Isaac in Smash (And a long list of other potential newcomers), but we just don't have anything else to go off of. I hope an August Direct is right around the corner.

Don't you mean another new series? Splatoon is in after all.

But yeah, Isaac would be sweet(same with K. Rool and Geno).

Oops. I was primarily thinking about the underdog series that have fallen by the way side, or aren't as grand as the more mainstream Nintendo games. But I also did just completely forget Splatoon because, well it just kind of taken everything by storm and is such a given that it feels less like Sakurai extended an arm out to a new franchise, and more Sakurai looking at the Inklings and realizing the angry mob that would come for him if he didn't include them. Don't get me wrong, I love their addition and I'm super excited to play them. But they were by far the most guaranteed fighter going into a new Smash game.

I just want some love for Sin and Punishment, Custom Robo, Chibi-Robo, Advance Wars, or Golden Sun. Mostly cause I'm tired of Nintendo sitting on IPs and doing nothing at all with them (I mean F-Zero could use a lot of love to if I'm being honest seeing as we only have Captain Falcon holding up his series since 2004).

people need to take from ridley's example, never give up. it took years for ridley to become playable and in the end all that work paid off. i'm still hopeful for isaac. and until then, we should keep asking for isaac no matter how many smash games it takes.

In other threads, I've already complained about Smash's stiff philosophy of only including either the most contemporary of characters or the oldest of retros without any regards to those in between. It can be a risk that doesn't always lead to successful revivals, sure. However, taking a chance on including even just a couple of the series you listed, as well as old characters from relevant franchises like K. Rool and Geno, could be a long-term benefit for Nintendo as it introduces more demand for these forgotten parts of their past and creates a new potential future avenue of profit and marketing.

If there was any game to finally break the trend and get our fan favorites on the map, it's this one with the ballot's influence. However, we just don't know to how great an extent this roster will focus on that. The ballot may only be a minority portion of the newcomers or we may only see a few more newcomers added as a whole.

It may not leave a lot of room for Isaac and co. to make their case, and it puts them in danger of getting outprioritized. Unless of course, Sakurai favors representing new series versus adding to existing ones, or there are more newcomers than we expect (like 10+ more from now), then we could be in for the ride of our lives.

This is why we need some news soon. I feel like even just one character reveal could help clue us in on their philosophy with Ultimate and maybe we can adjust our expectations for better or for worse.

I think this is the best opportunity he's ever had, and I'll always keep myself loud for the Golden Boy no matter what. If the base game comes without him playable, I'll do what I can to help with the Twitter's movement and get Isaac noticed by other fans and Sakurai. It can work. We just need enough voices to make it happen!

One thing that bothers me is that there wasn't a Mario Golf game for Wii U which means, unlike Aces, Camelot is going to have to build a new Mario Golf game from the ground up on Switch. I just hope after they're done with that they start on a new Golden Sun. I think it's time. Scratch that. I know it's time.

A character widely expected to get in possibly getting in is no real reason to revamp your entire perspective surrounding this roster considering both that she very well could be an echo and that one character is rarely sufficient to validate a trend.

Let's take a breath here and not jump to conclusions just yet.

I don't think it stopped people, but given that the ballot linked itself to one game more so than the series as a whole, I do think it shifted a greater amount of focus onto characters without a notable role. Isaac himself seems a testament to that.
Skyblade, nooooooooo.

It's a cloudy day but the sun hasn't set yet.
The sun don't stop believing skyblade so neither do we not till the end
I feel this song is appropriate right now.
Regardless, I've wanted Isaac in Smash since Brawl, I'm far too stubborn to give up now.

I became a big Isaac fan at the end of 2014 when DLC was amping up and I first played GS on Wii U, but man, it feels like I've been wanting him for much longer with how anxious I am for him.

I couldn't imagine what it's like as a Ridley fan since Melee or even 64 to finally see him make it.

Appropriate song from Golden Sun to never give up:joyful:
Btw Super Smash Flash 2 Beta had a new update today. Although Final Smash's aren't coming in this version they did show a sneak peak of some new Final Smashes including Isaac's and it's Judgement like we all expected

With how infrequent Smash Flash 2 updates are, I forgot the game existed. They did a nice job at replicating the segment and even going to the trouble of animating the sky.

It makes me want to see it in HD so bad, though. It fits right into Ultimate's style of having cinematic Final Smashes and the explosion upon the Earth would look so epic there.

This is the exact train that I’m on. I just really want to see some of the forgotten series get some love. We saw it happen with Kid Icarus and Ice Climber and the like. Why can’t we see it happen for a character from a franchise that has multiple games, a surprisingly vocal fan base, and limitless moveset pontential?

It is so weird to me that if you aren’t from the most recent console generation, or from the NES, you’re irrelevant. Series like Sin & Punishment, Golden Sun, Advance Wars, Custom Robo, Chibi-Robo, Starfy, etc. are all plenty retro in their own right, and represent a very unique part of Nintendo’s history, and could easily have the same impact that characters like Pit and Ice Climbers had whenever they were added. I really wanna see this era of N64-Wii get some love, because it really does feel like anything from this time period is kind of just treated as the awkward middle child. Which is pretty lame.

That attitude from the devs really needs to change. If we keep only picking the latest and NES, the longer we go the more console generations we’ll ignore. New characters who miss their shot while they’re fresh will fall by the wayside and be forgotten. I feel like that’s missing the spirit of Smash.
