That's something I find very interesting too, the wording really stood out to me when I heard it. (I've mentioned it a few times)
Personally I wouldn't care, it's not like it would be finished DLC that they're withholding. It would literally just be Sakurai telling us in advance what he plans to do.
Well, my stance is really never gonna change. No developer should ever plan DLC when working on the base game. It just screams greed.

It would make some amount of sense, a lot of people complain that Fighting Game Season Passes are a bit of a crapshoot; you don't know which characters you're buying until they're revealed.

I think Black Shadow, Ninten, and possibly Louie will be (late-in-development?) Echoes. Throw a bone to the franchises that have little chance of ever getting newcomers.
Maybe that's how YOU see it, but telling me the DLC plans before the game releases just tells me "Hey, uh, we weren't focusing primarily on the baseline as we were planning DLC too."
I see a lot of people say this, but how could Birdo possible be a Yoshi echo? Yoshi uses his long tongue, Birdo doesn't have a tongue. Yoshi lays eggs after eating something, Birdo shoots infinite eggs out of her mouth. Yoshi also uses his tail, which Birdo doesn't have.
Do you know roughly how he gets his information or does he not tell you that?
Sorry but we aren’t going to agree on this. I would personally rather know what’s coming and that it comes within 6 month rather than a year. I do not believe that simply planning the intended content for dlc would be overly taxing resource wise. You’re certainly entitled to your opinion, but I don’t feel that way.

Well, i certainly wouldn't want a good developer planning DLC during the development of a big game like Smash Bros.
Yeah, I agree. I feel like Simon and Richter were the big 3rd party blowouts. At that point the only 3rd party character that I feel could make it in is Geno. Especially with Square and Nintendo having a good relationship right now.

Not really, there is only Foreman Spike who can fit that. No one else in the two WC games represents the frustration of somebody wrecking things before you do and take the credit for a bigger paycheck.
I mean, Wrecking Crew has had its trademark renewed recently by Nintendo along with GS and RH, so... who knows. I think Foreman Spike could easily be the retro rep in this game.
Yes, but coming out in 1998 with a renewal in 2008, it was due for renewal again anyway, as was 2008's Mario Sluggers. Rhythm Heaven it depends, it could be either due now or 2021/

Well, there's a chance Sakurai might go with his '98 look, not-Waluigi.
His look kinda looks like a macho-man with the 98' redsign. And for some reason, i feel strangely uncomfortable looking at it.
