Alright guys, I need help. Life lesson stuff. So naturally I figured I'd post in the social thread.

I finally got my work schedule for my new job. It demands I work Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. This isn't a huge deal, but the trouble is that to get to APEX I need to leave with Sanuzi and co. on the Thursday in the afternoon or possibly earlier. Basically, I need that weekend off.

For my previous jobs they were all days during the week so I never had to ask for time off for tournaments. I'm really unsure as to how to do it. I'm basically asking for 3 days off (a weekend, when I work weekends) when I've worked there less than 6 weeks. I think this upcoming Thursday will mark my third week there, so I don't have any sort of "I've been here for a while, cut me some slack please" type spiel working for my favour. I'm new, inexperienced, and entirely replaceable. And it sucks.

I really want to go to APEX and it's the only APEX there will ever be. But at the same time I want to try to handle this as delicately as possible and try to keep the job if that is in any way possible.

Now, I do have some material that is available to be twisted if necessary. My family is going on a trip in August to see my sister, because she moved to WC. So I have considered telling them that there is a family trip going on and the flight leaves on Wednesday or something. I'm not sure how they would respond to an appeal to family-type stuff. They seem nice, but I've only really talked to them in interviews, odd moments around the store, and when I'm being berated for small mistakes.

I think the family trip sounds like a better excuse than a smash tournament if I'm trying to stay. I additionally have University in the fall and I'm certainly not above making up something for that if it means increasing the likelihood of keeping the job or dodging an ultimatum.

Share your experiences, give advice, etc.

Help?

I'm really noob at this so I'm going to need more help than that.

What kind of family emergency should we be looking at? Wedding? Death? Crippling illness requires me to help other family member?

I'd like to just say there's a family complication that requires me take time off for 3 days and leave it at that, but is that really sufficient? What if, hypothetically, they do ask? It sounds so shallow and weak to me. I really want to make sure this is 100% airtight, or as airtight as possible.

I've never done this before so I need to be walked through it.

It does seem shaky, but no one will ask you questions about a family emergency. I would just leave it general, and just act like you are not lying XD. They will never know.

Topes idea is good too.

What BunBun suggested is that I say a close friend of the family is getting married in <location> and they're doing it on <date>, and the ticket to fly there was purchased and is non-refundable.

Has anyone used something like this before?

I'm worried that they'll be upset that they weren't notified about this during the interview. And then they may view me as not dedicated, or devious, or evil.

Whereas with a wedding I can say I was given about 4 or 5 weeks notice, which is roughly normal etiquette for that sort of thing.

what do you do? does it pay hourly?

i've never had problems just plain asking for the time off, even just a few weeks in (I had a similar situation for FCD and didn't have any trouble getting the days off)

although really you should've let them know of your plans if you already knew them at hiring time -_-

if this is a long term job (or something you're hoping will be one), you don't really have much to gain by lying

I'm a stock boy (hourly wage) in a health food store. And I know I should have told them at hiring time. I failed terribly. :(

After briefly talking with Diakonos about it, I'm not going to go with an elaborate wedding fib or anything, I'm just going to tell them it's a trip with some close friends to see other important friends that I don't get to see very often because of geographical barriers. I already paid for it, too.

i'd almost say you're giving too many details

just go with 'i have a trip planned and i need the time'.

the more you talk the more transparent the lie, so try to give as little information as possible... point is, the manager can either afford to let you not be there or he can't; what you do with the time off isn't as relevant as you think it is

rest sucks, shine blows, sheik has no approach
KK has no approach because he is that kind of person

sheik approaches by running and then holding back and doing some move...

well i guess grab, dsmash, and dash attack are all approaches??? !!!!!!

I dunno I don't like attacking with dash attack and d-smash because if they block it I get punished really hard because Foxes here (well, the two good ones) know that if all 3 hits connect on their shield they can just aerial OoS to punish and if only 1 or 2 hits connect on their shield they can WD OoS and shine me into a big combo. And the same applies for Falco. And Jigglypuff is the devil.
