The Chrom leak is a well-done fake but, I can nitpick everything wrong with it.

1.) The model for Chrom has Oriental-looking eyes, if you look at any picture of Chrom.... His eyes aren't as slanted as the model shown or not at all slanted.

2.) The base picture of the photoshop is this photo

3.) Too many obstructions of the TV, he points his middle finger right where the pillar would be and there are books right where the rocks/Marth's elbow would be.

4.) He does everything to make the 4chan community mad and then posts it there. 4chan hates both Metroid: Other M and Irate Gamer, he has posters to both of them. A lot of the community think of Chrom as a husbando, he flicks him off. Deliberate April Fool's joke.

5.) You can see that the television was off before he photoshopped the image on. Look at his finger on the backside, it's dark... televisions usually emit light. If you look at the top of the television screen, you can see faint light glares but they were cut off by the image.

6.) That's a weird stance for someone in a fighting game... I don't think someone idles like that, he looks like he has a regular pose with his hands at his side.

7.) If he/she actually HAD the game like it's been implied, that would be a felony and I doubt he would take a picture of it at his own home. I can understand getting the game a week or two early but that's too early.

Kind of impressive how fast that Chrom leak was debunked (and it says a lot that no one has been able to say the same for Palutena).

Even with all of this, the biggest problem is the background, the background is basically a giant floating city and not a single detail from the background is show so It's obviously a fake, and you do have a point with him just standing there in a fighting game.

I'm still guessing that Palutena is an AT because Pit has a new FS from KI:U. :p

This is obviously fake because it's TOO good. As someone pointed out, Marth's textures don't look this good at this range.

Don't get me wrong, I'm guessing that Chrom is playable, but this is fake.

And Palutena can't be playable because...?

Also, even though people are talking about the model, we also have the stage to worry about

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae246/SmashBrosWiiU/Peachlink2342daily_zpsfd487e09.jpg
Look how perfectly even the clouds are with eachother.

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae246/SmashBrosWiiU/Peachlink2342daily_zpsfd487e09.jpg
The background should atleast be somewhat foggy since it IS in the day and not evening.

And overall it's just the big lack of islands in the background, even the giant moon or whatever... but the biggest factor is how the clouds don't match up with eachother and are just very very uneven.

That leak looks really good. I'm expecting Chrom in the game anyways, but this is great. My only concern is Chrom's hair, eyebrows, and clothes are much different than Marth's. How good are people at photoshop that they can create these things from nothing?

Not too hard, considering how many different assets there are out there for use on Chrom. This fake obviously took quite a bit of work and was done by someone fairly talented, but there's far too much in the face of it for it to be legit. However, it doesn't particularly affect that I reckon he'll be in the game anyway.

Too me the leak looks legit. The people who are saying its fake due to him looking to much like Marth, aren't they related, I mean Lucina went parading around as Marth for a good amount of the game, so they should look similiar

Hmm.. Chrom Must have been Getting Beauty Tips from Zelda, His Armor here may Be Silver, but the overall Concept of it Doesn't Match his Original Look, Its Similar to Zelda's two "Shoulder Pad" Thingys..

You know I love you all, but some of your reasons for debunking the Chrom picture are downright laughable.

"He's too oriental." "The Horizon line doesn't match up on both sides." "The Photo book covers up Marth's elbow."

No. Just no.
First, stop paying attention to this duncebag's room. That's not important. Look at the picture itself. Yeah, it does look really crisp, better even than some of the photos on the site. That being said, if this is real, I bet it's from Chrom's CG trailer or even the game's opening sequence.

Next, yes, his features are VERY similar to that one photo of Marth, but as others have said, they're related and this is no big deal. Honestly their noses aren't that dissimilar to Link and Zelda's. But none of this means that the leaker took this one image of Marth and created Chrom around it. They would have simply taken the features out and composed a new image on a different background.

Third, the face could have been taken from Marth. The hair could have been taken from any CG footage and colored blue, but the outfit is too perfect, and is specific to Chrom. You couldn't pull those elements from a Final Fantasy or an Assassin's Creed and make them look as perfect as they do. That's not to say the leaker doesn't have some type of rendering software, but still, this is just too damn good.

It's very convincing, and even though the leaker is an arrogant goober, you cannot say with 100% certainty that he doesn't have a leg up on the rest of us. Or rather a finger up.

I'm not gonna say it's real yet, but I'm also not gonna qualify 4 out of 5 of you as experts either.

I agree, but the fishy thing is having his face in the same position as an existing Marth pic, which makes it easier to photoshop. Still, we should be looking for similar looking clothes, hair, and shoulder pad to see if it was modified from something else.

That's exactly the point. Why release a photo in exactly the same position as Marth? This guy is making out he's playing the game in his own house (all but impossible) and yet has pulled the one shot up of Chrom that is coincidentally in the exact same position as Marth? I mean, are you telling me that's just a coincidence? A guy making out he has access to the full game just happened to pull a shot so eerily similar?

The scenario is unbelievable. The parity between Marth and Chrom's facial features and positioning is unbelievable. The background is unbelievable. It's. April. Fools. Day.

I'm sorry, but just no.

Some people are questioning the shoulder pads, but remember, Smash models aren't the canon models- Brawl's Mario had so much texture to them and Olimar's had buttons and patches added to the captain's suit.

Exactly, Too many people are jumping the gun on this, and doing that could really make you look stupid down the line. (I've seen people try to disprove pics of wolf in brawl when he was leaked because he looked like a gray fox, seriously guys. Don't treat it as concrete when it sure as hell isn't)

It's possible he just has access to a picture or a video of chrom, and not the game. It's not like the trailers appear out of thin air when the character is revealed, people work on them.

People are taking the Chrom "leak" seriously?

The dude didn't even have the decency to hide his ugly, teenager with too much time mess of a room.

Ok, I'll play along. Why then, if he only has a video/image, would he shop it crudely onto his television? He has his Wii U switched on under the tv so he obviously intends to deceive. There's no glare. The tv is switched off. The rear side of his finger being dark verifies that, as aforementioned. Even if you were to take it further and say that he may have faked the scenario but not the picture, it falls apart on background analysis. Not only is it a background we've seen before, but there's a good half-inch difference in the lining up of the background either side of Chrom. Are you telling me that's a development issue? This image has had a background crudely layered onto it, hence the inconsistency. It's good, no doubt, but it's full of holes.

Edit: There's also something extremely suspicious about the shading on Chrom's neck. Not quite right at all.

Here's a comparison of Chrom and Zelda's shoulder pads for reference.

Very different. It was likely made from scratch.
It could be...alternatively, as a shape reference, the leftmost side of Zelda's pad could have been flipped, mirrored and attatched to the rest of the pad to provide a damn good base shape reference. Hoping it's clear what I mean by that - I'm on my phone so I can't mock it up in photoshop to demonstrate.

So basically, "ignore the part of the leak that clearly points to it being fake/a joke"?

I understand your point. The face being in the same position points more towards fake, but we have to look at more things. Chrom has a model in Monster Hunter Frontier G that we should be looking at. http://fireemblem.wikia.com/wiki/Monster_Hunter_Frontier_G?file=255px-MHFG-Seiou_Armor_Render_2.jpg

I don't think they look that similar, but maybe a photoshop expert can say if it was made from that.

Forgive me for not quite seeing what you mean...but what is this meant to show?

See, I'm back on the fence...it seems legit.

Pretty sure that TV is on. There is a bluish light on the TV stand, and for all we know, it may not be on a higher brightness settings. Debatable topic here. This is interesting.

I reckon the shape was made by seperating Zelda's pad into two sections, flipping+rotating the leftmost piece and attatching it to the other. I then reckon he smoothed out or simply cropped out the sharp lower edge, retextured it and added a piece to the lower left to make it seem like a new asset. That's just a theory, however, I don't have access to photoshop right now to demonstrate - I may be able to mock the shape up in paint in a second (crudely).

Showing that I don't think Zelda's shoulder pads could have been used as a base. To be fair, rotating it shows that it might have been possible, but it would have been difficult for sure.

Oh, this is great :glare: To clarify beforehand, I'm not saying that this leak is true. I'm saying that there is not concrete evidence to say that it is false.
Ok, I'll play along. Why then, if he only has a video/image, would he shop it crudely onto his television?
There are many reasons for this, He could be using his computer on the TV for various reasons, or he could just be doing it to fit more gags in. (He could also be doing it to deceive into us thinking he has the game, but there are other possibilities.)
He has his Wii U switched on under the tv so he obviously intends to deceive.
And how do you know that deceit was planned because of this little detail, exactly? I know people who keep their consoles on for weeks straight just because, it's not that strange.
There's no glare.
The tv is switched off. The rear side of his finger being dark verifies that, as aforementioned.
So you're saying the image was shopped onto the screen? Great, can you show any evidence of photoshop being used on the image besides tv glare? If you do, then i can just drop this right now.
Even if you were to take it further and say that he may have faked the scenario but not the picture, it falls apart on background analysis. Not only is it a background we've seen before, but there's a good half-inch difference in the lining up of the background either side of Chrom.
Half inch difference, are you referring to the cloud line in the image? I Noticed that the first time i saw the picture, but since they're clouds i'm pretty sure that aligning really doesn't matter. Also a little detail people didn't notice was the leaves blowing in the wind, I haven't seen them at this angle before.
BackAre you telling me that's a development issue? This image has had a background crudely layered onto it, hence the inconsistency. It's good, no doubt, but it's full of holes.
Same as before, care to elaborate? I see the clouds looking strange on both sides of the middle finger, but they are clouds, after all.

I can get damn close in paint, but I can't get close to demonstrating the smoothed edges without the photoshop freeform tool, as I'm having to use a freeform crop that relies solely on my shaky hand on the trackpad. Attatching the right side of Zelda's pad (I flipped, I rotated) to the left side (flipped, rotated) created a crude shape reference, albeit one in need of smoothing and angle adjustments. I can see the potential in them having done that, as once done it disguises the base rather well once retextured, but I'm not so sure without being able to physically do it in photoshop. It could be an asset created solely for the fakery, if not. If anybody with photoshop fancies giving it a shot for me it might be good - I just don't have steady enough hands for paint.

Both halves of the picture have flat clouds in the background, parallel to the bottom of the screen. The clouds on Chrom's left are noticeably purpler and higher up than the clouds on his right.

Firstly, I never post. Long time lurker, former member from the Melee days and speculation for Brawl, so take that as you will (different username).

Ran the photoshop analysis on Chrom. Definitely no indication here that it's faked. You look for anything "bright" or contrasting against the other rainbow edges of the image; this has none, and therefore the picture we're seeing is legitimate.

That said, since it was taken off a screen, that picture IS legitimate, but this analysis doesn't reflect the actual image that was uploaded to the TV. If we could access that, it'd be much easier to analyze for real.

Basically, photoshop analysis will tell us jack because this was a photo taken off a screen. Done.

So you believe that the Wii U is intentionally within the frame of the photograph, switched on, alongside a 'screenshot' mocked into a tv is coincidence? You're making excuses for his intentions. The fact that he has faked the shots location is proof enough that he intends to deceive - his inclusion of the Wii U to suggest that he has a playable copy all but proves that intention. Is the middle finger not a big enough hint as to the attitude of this guy? His photograph is as intentionally provocative as they come.
And it's not just the clouds, though they're dodgy enough. The fade from light blue to dark on the left finishes considerably earlier than it does on the right. Line it up on your screen with a straight-edge, or use photoshop's line tool - you'll spot it. Check the blending on his neck too - there's a smudgy, lighter mark that suddenly sharply transitions into the darker, shaded area. It's rather visible.

Edit: Yeah, no real photoshop analysis can be done with the photograph itself being genuine. That's pretty much the only thing that makes me doubt the Palutena leak - that it's purposefully not photoshop verifiable.

Great analysis! So you're saying the picture wasn't modified, meaning Chrom was actually on the screen. That means that he faked the image and uploaded it on his TV, or it's real and he has it on his TV. It's still open for debate, though. Thanks for your contribution!

I think some of you guys are looking waaaay too hard for things to prove this fake. Honestly.

The Wii U being pn means nothing. He can view an image on it, so that doesn't directly mean anything. It's irrelevant.

Yes, but the lack of actual glare coming from the screen at all suggests the television wasn't even on. There is no light cast across his finger at all, like any other picture taken in the dark with a television on would have. Why even have a console on in a photograph masquerading as a screenshot when the television isn't on? To fool people. On April Fools.

Edit: Actually, on the right hand side of the tv you can actually see a sliver of light reflecting off the television itself from whatever light is on behind the camera. It pokes out slightly from above the photograph, before being covered by the rest of it.

I mean, seriously. I just wonder if we're going to hear word post-April Fools from the creator on its validity, or if he's going to let this become the new Palutena. I can't help but believe the latter.

So you believe that the Wii U is intentionally within the frame of the photograph, switched on, alongside a 'screenshot' mocked into a tv is coincidence? You're making excuses for his intentions.
It's barely in frame , and there isn't any proof what you're saying is true. I do see how you can see that this is the case. I did not see the wii u until looking at the pic again this morning, i wasn't even sure it was on.
The fact that he has faked the shots location is proof enough that he intends to deceive - his inclusion of the Wii U to suggest that he has a playable copy all but proves that intention. Is the middle finger not a big enough hint as to the attitude of this guy? His photograph is as intentionally provocative as they come.
Some people have been saying he's intentionally done that to throw people off, somebody did this for a leaked copy of MK9 apparently?
And it's not just the clouds, though they're dodgy enough. The fade from light blue to dark on the left finishes considerably earlier than it does on the right. Line it up on your screen with a straight-edge, or use photoshop's line tool - you'll spot it. Check the blending on his neck too - there's a smudgy, lighter mark that suddenly sharply transitions into the darker, shaded area. It's rather visible.
I thought this was just because of the lighting that the sun provides like how this picture changes lighting from right to left, but i do see how it can look spotty.

There is a bit of a bluish light on the tv stand, which leads me to believe the TV is in fact on. But I could be wrong.
