there's a space in my name, Ziv... & damn my elo is pretty low considering my recent placings. did you count that I took a set from Sinister in GF's at sept pathways?
Sorry, forgot the space. Also your elo is fine. Yes I counted the win vs Sinister. But when you beat somebody higher and then lose to them the next match you don't really gain too much. Everybody rated higher than you is likely better than you.

Massive, play more and watch your elo grow! The thing about elo is there is absolutely NO bias whatsoever. So the formula doesn't give a rats *** how good you think you are. It's one hundred percent results driven. At BTEH2, you barely won more matches than you lost.

I am familiar with the formula, I do math for a living.

And I don't know how much my elo would grow regardless of my performance, I am far too streaky to do well by most performance metrics. One week I am king of the scrubs, the next Jace can't knee me and I beat AustinRC with kirby.

Idk why I find hilarious some of the smash names. =P

Darkrain, 16th. =( That's not really accurate though.
It will remain inaccurate until the sample size is large enough to normalize any spikes in performance; they're going to need a bit more than 30 data points (the level past which a normal distribution can be applied to a data set) per person before we see the scores begin to normalize.

I also do not recall if Ziv is using staggered K-values to calculate player ranking based on available data set sizes. Or what the K-value(s) is/are set to to begin with.

Mathematically speaking I doubt either of these issues would alter my score (my sample size is a single tournament) in an visible way. Regardless, these ratings are very likely not yet indicative of a ranking of any overall player skill levels but rather rankings across a small subset of tournaments.

More data = more accurate ratings.

I dont think this thing is accurate..... Sinister is pretty good, but to be slightly lower than darkrain? King Siegfried all the way at 800 something? eh....
I will forever disregard it. Some people like it, which is fine. I'm not a fan of it, even if there were billions of data points for it.

Why not use the most recent tournament placings for each smasher so the QUANTITY of tournaments to EACH player is equal? Or maybe I don't understand how Elo works.

Edit: that wouldn't work. Disregard that. But, Ziv, will you make an Elo based just off of the smashers in MO?

Edit 2: disregard that too Ziv. I'll just recreate the results on Excel.

Massive: Thanks for saving me time in explaining that. The only variable affecting K value is the elo rating itself. The lower the rating, the higher the K value. Although I am currently using UTDZaks software which uses a set K value, 24 I believe.

Akuma: Your elo would be a lot higher had you not dropped out at MIST.

Leviathan: You obviously didn't read Massive's post. Elo doesn't care about the legend of Darkrain. It wants to know who he has beat and losses to. The fact that he only has one rated tourney and also dropped a match to Jace hurt him a lot.

Previously I was trying to get the brackets for SMYM12 but now it's too late.

Is anybody going to go to The Big House?
Seems like it might be worth it.
I would rather go but don't think we will make it. If someone is going from Springfield I'm in if possible.
I've been driving my roommates car a lot and could likely pass my driving test but won't have a car for a little bit. Could rent one if really needed for tourneys after that but might be pricey.

We should talk about the next big tourney we are going to try and attend.

I have a new white controller. And I made a controller like Romans. It's half black half platinum.

Lol this thread. You guys crack me up <3

Who do you guys feel is the best character to play against frequently?

Marth is my worst MU hands down, so I'm naturally going to say him. I can't space sh** against him. F*** Marth.

Although, he's a lot of fun to play as.

I like to play against falcon. After playing a good falcon you realize getting hit once could mean a whole stock.

Playing Marth is pretty fun. I think it helps with spacing a lot. I mean, you space with every character but with Marth I think its easier to see.

I love playing against Fox. I'm glad we have a good fox main in our crew. Fox is hard for me to approach but it is really fun to space just right, bait his attack and punish him. Edgeguarding Fox is always fun. I love taking stocks at low percents.

I hate playing Falco but think I do better against Falco than Fox. He's just really annoying with the lasers and relentless pressure. I've been getting good at powershielding from playing him though. Way easy to edgeguard.

Playing against Sheik is so dumb. I've been reading up on the matchup recently and think it will be a little easier next time though.

Playing Massives Kirby is ****ing gay. Fu Massive

I'd say Marth is my easiest matchup.

I wonder if Michael is serious when he said he's not gonna play his Marth vs Sheik anymore.

I told her you said that. Jerk.
Also, why would you tell your mom someone said that?

Captain Falcon is probably both my favorite and least favorite character to play against. Most favorite when it's anybody but Jace, least favorite when it's Jace.

The best to play against for practice purposes is probably Marth, because learning to avoid his attacks through spacing will help you with every matchup on every character.

The best character to work on your attack spacing and reaction speed is fox, because miss-spacing or doing something punishable means an usmash to the face/***.

However, my favorite match to play in the game is by far Kirby vs. Falco.
SHORTHOP DOUBLE LASERS.
I laugh as I see them driven before me and hear the lamentations of their women.

So, I'm going to be late to the smashfest on Saturday. I have a project grad thing to attend which is located 15 minutes away from Seymour, in the other direction that I would take to go to Springfield. It's from 12:00-2:00 so if I leave right after, I can be there around 3:00-3:15.
