Not sure about Doc, but the more interesting one is Mewtwo losing to Jiggs.
Rest feels so guaranteed on M2 from my experience moreso than anyone else. Along with her weaving around shadow balls and combos not being as effective on her is icing. Although our advantage is if we can break her shield...

Is it guaranteed? I'll have a look at the Jiggs forum and do some basic testing if Rest percentages aren't listed.

I think we can dance around Puff much better than she can around us and I don't think she really forces anyone to approach her. Her ground game sucks, and her aerials don't beat out moves easily. Pound is annoying, but it loses to shield.

Gimping isn't really an option and neither is comboing (though I'm sure things like D-Tilt-> Double Jump Up Air-> Fair still work on her), but she dies really early.

I think Kirby would pose more problems than Jiggs.

LOL @ Pound losing to shield. Maybe if you have a full shield. Don't get complacent... Pound also breaks shields just as good as FCSB can. Hell, easier, since SB takes forever to charge and line up.

My last few friendlies of the night were with a Wario main and we were fairly even at the beginning but by the time we left I had 2 stocked him multiple times in a row.

I don't know whether to be happy or upset after today. On one hand I got destroyed in tournament again (placing one place worse than last time) but on the other I clearly proved that I can be competent as a player.
Don't get discouraged. In Melee, I used to get bodied by the local legend who could DI and Wavedash properly... and he'd use Pichu to do it. I never got discouraged. Sometimes I would manage to beat him.

Think of it as a learning opportunity. Use your defeats to level up. The more you play with and talk to the people who destroy you, the easier it is to learn their ways.

As long as your out there gaining more tourney experience your making progress. Sometimes taking a step back after a tourney loss and grind out some friendlies can be more beneficial in preparing you for next time.

As for the Jiggs matchup I feel our greatest tool for combating Jiggs is really our Up-air. Especially on platform stages such as battlefield, it's wide hitbox can keep Jiggs over us limiting her horizontal approach options where she sometimes can be most troublesome if you don't space well with F-air.

Doesn't mean that it's not punishable on shield. If you're wary of how large your shield is, you can either shield it or just space appropriately. Nothing here suggests that I'm being complacent.

FCSB isn't meant to break shields, but I see what you're saying.

If it makes you feel better, I have yet to win a tourney match as M2. Nope, every single game I used him has gone to last stock last hit. Needless to say I get too ancy and choke.

Anyways, my matchup list for M2 that I ballparked.View attachment 97876
I don't think Mewtwo really has a matchup better than 60:40. His frailty means upsets are always a factor for the opponent, and his neutral, good as it is isn't oppressive enough to make his weight a non-factor.

Samus may be disadvantaged by having her staple projectiles reflected, but she has faster attacks, can harass with her zair and use her homing missiles to bait reactions, plus she has effective combos.

Duck Hunt also isn't that simple, since his projectiles all eat shadow balls of any kind, and no Duck Hunt is just going to sit back and chuck them while you reflect. His issues with killing also aren't quite as severe with Mewtwo.

On the flip side, Kirby is outspaced too hard for it to be his advantage, but he can use his small size to open opportunities for good damage others would miss out on and can outbox up close so it's not too bad for him either. Jigglypuff... not so much. She has Rest, and... that's it, really. Mewtwo pretty much stomps her anywhere else as long as he's not TOO reckless. Her not being susceptible to combos is cold comfort when you unquestionably die earlier than anyone else, not to mention Mewtwo's good damage per hit circumvents the floatiness somewhat anyhow.

Bayonetta is too early to really say, but her neutral isn't too difficult for Mewtwo to handle (just watch for dive kicks), plus he has the boons of being able to avoid all of her gimping tools (including Witch Time), and not having to risk the aforementioned counter for the kill. The only real question at this point is exactly HOW effective her combos are on Mewtwo.

Yoshi isn't as safe as he looks, and when it comes down to it isn't great at sealing the stock either. He has to mix-up a lot to get his hits in, since a lot of what he does can be countered, even stuff like his fair and nair.

Finally, while Sheik does truly outneutral Mewtwo, having an answer for most everything Mewtwo does, he has the tricks necessary to stay in the game, namely avoiding gimps and being able to score lethal damage and blows without hard commitments.

I'm hoping my competitive experience goes well whenever it finally kicks off. I'd like to believe I'm a decent player, if a bit subject to tunnel vision (I rarely tomahawk so my jumps are obvious, gotta work on that). Not planning on becoming big or anything and outside of Robin, I'm not even 100% sure who I want to use. No idea how I'd handle being around a bunch of strangers, especially if they start chanting either for or against me.

Might pocket a Sheik even though I only find her somewhat fun. Reason I say that is that I wanna join competitive Smash for fun, to play the game in a format I enjoy and play with other people. That goes completely out the window though with certain playstyles. Brawl had it worse with ICies, Falco and D3 but a needle camping Sheik and ZSS and Bayo as a whole just look and sound unfun to fight against with anybody.

As for Mewtwo and his weight, I'm actually noticing a similar although more accurate trend with Kirby. With Mewtwo it tends to be 'he's tall and light, dies early, we win lol'. With Kirby it always seems to be 'we out range him and he's slow, we win'. Slowness and lack of range are far more detrimental than a mere lack of weight but it sounds similar to me. I guess everyone beats Sheik because her damage output is so awful that she can't kill anyone in the entire game. And she's light! Joking...obviously.

I disagree with some of the part of Duck Hunt.
Duck Hunt has a lot of problems killing because his smashes just don't really work well for him and he doesn't really have any setups.
Mewtwo's a great killer on the contrary, because he has multiple setups into his kill moves, and even better, he has a frame 6 kill move in forward air and the best up throw kill move.

Bleh. I've been rolling the idea of dropping M2 as a secondary. I've done alright with him in play and he's quite fun when I actially do well with him, but whenever I come on the M2 it seems I don't know what I'm actually doing with him.

Lately I've noticed that my Mewtwo is way more aggressive than it used to be. And I've gotta say that aggressive Mewtwo is probably a viable play style, actually.

If he had more weight it would allow him to play it even better. But I don't really care for his weight anyways.

To say the least I'm pretty disappointed in myself, lately...

Why would you be disappointed in yourself? If your Mewtwo is getting more aggressive, that's your playstyle. Maybe you could figure something out that we don't know yet :)

You know, playing aggressive with Mewtwo... may actually be a great idea especially after the 1.1.3 patch.

I never said Duck Hunt doesn't still have problems killing, and I'm fully aware of the gap between the two in this regard. But one thing the dog does well at is setup for damage, and versus Mewtwo he doesn't need to do this as much before his more reliable kill moves (bair, nair and uair) start doing so. As for his smashes... you know Mewtwo has a big body, right? That also means Duck Hunt can play a decent spacing game with their aerials, too. And I believe it's been mentioned that such approaches can be awkward for Mewtwo to answer.

You know, playing aggressive with Mewtwo... may actually be a great idea especially after the 1.1.3 patch.
Hmm, globally decreased aerial landing lag, in a game where air-to-ground approaches are practically the norm...

Nope, don't see how that helps Mewtwo aggressive game.

In all seriousness, it wasn't just that being defensive was optimal before 1.1.3, it was the only way to play without seriously risking being blown up. A true glass cannon should be able to adapt and handle situations in different ways, even if he or she can gravitate to one tactic in particular (patient bait and punishing in Mewtwo's case).

There are times when an aggressive approach is called for, though, such as against Diddy Kong to prevent him from having too much free reign with his banana, pressing the advantage when Rosalina is without Luma etc. And against Sheik, you have to be good at switching playstyles on the fly.

A more aggressive play style can be viable if you're at low percent since you'll be racking up reward a lot more but at higher percents I'll just switch.

Yeah. I think there are times where it's better to be defensive, and times when it's better to be offensive. Even before the patch, it was always just camp until an opening to get aggressive showed up, and I think there's more opportunities to go on the offensive now. It might even be best to quickly just between being offensive and defensive in some situations to keep your opponent on their toes. Just the other day, I was playing semi-aggressively against a Lucario, but completely threw him off by getting campy when I realized how hard it was to get a kill from U-throw. I sealed the deal by reflecting a powerful aura sphere, but it very well could of also ended with a B-throw or fully charged Shadow Ball as well.

It really depends on the matchup and the situation at this point.
I appreciate you trying, but I have some disagreements. Namely, Mewtwo, I feel, does not beat or go even with DK, Corrin, Greninja or Little Mac (an actually good Mac). I also think Mewtwo does decent against Sonic, all things considered. And I know Kirby is hard to grab and hit, but Mewtwo has far more range and speed, so... Mewtwo vs. Rosalina is pretty decent; I think putting it as 45:55 is fine, but it's definitely not worse than that unless you're playing Dabuz himself.

Everything else is debatable but looks plausible.
Corrin actually has a really difficult time approaching. His only real safe attacks on shield are Bair and a sweet-spotted F-smash, but Bair pushes him back and F-smash has to be spaced perfectly. This makes harassing him with Shadow Ball really easy. You just have to play patiently.

Mewtwo being aggressive or defensive depends moreso on your opponent than the character match-up.

I think it depends on some of both, depending on the situations. Some characters are more difficult to approach or camp than others.

Like with the Corrin matchup I just brought back up. Corrin's Nair, Fair, and Dragon Fang Shot make him incredibly hard to approach, while Nair, Dair, and Counter Surge all make Corrin dangerous to juggle. He can't, however, approach us, so we have to rely on Shadow Ball camping in that match up.

In a Rosaluma match up, on the other hand, Luma and Gravitational Pull shuts our Shadow Ball down. While we can't always get too aggressive, we can't force an approach on her either.

Either way, I think we can all agree it's important to be able to tell when it's best to play defensively and when we gotta go fast. The ability to analyze a situation is important for any character.

Isn't dragon fang shot too risky on us?

If they charge the shot at all we have time to reflect it easily, and because of the bite animation they will be paralyzed (and potentially killed). Uncharged shots may be less risky but Corrin gets little to no reward for actually landing it.

Only if we have time to react, which we may not if we're approaching. An uncharged shot at close range gives just enough time for Corrin to fully charge the chomp, to.

If we remain at a distance, however, we'll have plenty of time to reflect.

I really don't fear the Corrin MU... like, at all. I only shudder at being hit by a tippered fsmash or impaled by Dragon Lunge at high percents, but honestly it's not that bad for Mewtwo.

Counter Surge is something to always keep in mind in the MU but other than that I completely agree.

Well, it's a counter. A really dang good counter, but still a counter.
A good Corrin will probably only use it on a hard read, just as anyone else with anyone else with a counter move. If you end up juggling a bunch, use Shadow Ball and your dash grab a lot to make it a risky option for them, and be cautious if you think they're getting thirsty for a kill.

Omg guys! GUYS!! Remember the tournament I was talking about the other day?!

I F*CKING WON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND WITH MEWTWO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I started using Rosalina like I had said I would a few pages ago. I wasn't really sure of whether to use her or Mewtwo, so I went with her. For some reason, I did horribly with her (which is weird because I feel my game is the most solid when I use her) and lost my first round 2-0 against one of the Top 10 players in Venezuela, who, of course, uses Sheik, and was immediately sent to Losers' Bracket. So there I bumped into this guy who used Lucas and I thought "I'll just try Mewtwo, who knows..."

AND I UTTERLY DESTROYED HIM.

He was a great Lucas, but my game, man, wow! It was on point! Maybe the fact that I also main Lucas helped, so I knew what he was up to, but I still did great and won 2-0 against him. On to the next round!

Then came a guy who was using Fox. I said "This is it. I can't play against Fox", and I almost lost (I actually lost the first game) but came up victor after some really close matches. The following round was against a Luigi who I beat easily, and then against a guy who used Donkey Kong (the easiest of them all).

I couldn't believe I had made it to the finals against the winner of Winner's Bracket (who was none other than the Top 10 guy who had eliminated me earlier) but this time everything would be different because I switched from Rosalina to Mewtwo. He beat me rather easily in the first game, so I felt kind of sad, so I just played for the heck of it in the next game, which I somehow won. Then came the final round, and my fully charged Shadow Ball took charge of Sheik. I WON THE FREAKING TOURNAMENT WITH MEWTWO!!!!! He got kind of nervous, I think, because he messed up some moves and I took advantage of that and punished him.

The hype was unbelievable! So many people were around our set cheering for me (and some for him, obviously). But the best part is, you HAD to hear the people saying things like "Wow, I thought Mewtwo sucked" and "Man, I didn't know Mewtwo was this good!". I felt so proud! I left Mewtwo's name up high! I BEAT THE NUMBER ONE CHARACTER OF THE GAME, USED BY ONE OF THE TOP 10 PLAYERS IN THE COUNTRY WITH HIM!!

It's like a dream. Too bad it wasn't my Wii U so I don't have the replays, but I'll search to see if someone recorded some videos with their phones or something to share them with you guys. MEWTWO IS VIABLE, PEOPLE!!

Way to represent Mewtwo! I would go to a tournament if I knew of one where I don't have to drive far or spend lots of money...

Congrats on the win! Do you happen to know what this tournament was called and who the top 10 player was? We could possibly make a tournament results thread to record these types of things.

Congratulations, you made the first tier list I can agree a lot with....
Fire the backroom guys.
And it's a bit late, but I have my list too :p

Oh, and today is my one year anniversary in here, so as a gift to all of you I will call Sakurai today and tell him to bring Shadow Mewtwo over as a top tier free DLC.... and to give :150: a few french fries :yeahboi:

Thank you so much! I don't know, but I'm investigating! The tournament was organized by a college classmate who is not really into games, but more into organizing events of all types. It wasn't very big; I'm pretty sure we weren't more than 30 people. As soon as I get it I'll share it here!

I went on FG tonight as Little Mac and seemed to completely forget how to fight as him, as I was completely embarrassed by a typical Captain Falcon in almost every way possible. I think I have a lot of ways I need to improve as a player in general, because as of right now I don't think I'm that good. Definitely not good enough to seriously enter a tournament or even Anther's. I need to put more time in.

I beat a surprising skilled Sheik player on For Glory today, and I thought that felt like an accomplishment, but here we've got C3CC C3CC taking out an entire tournament and defeating one of his country's top players.

I never doubted that Mewtwo didn't suck, even before the buffs, but I'm feeling especially confident about Mewtwo now.

Isn't dragon fang shot too risky on us?

If they charge the shot at all we have time to reflect it easily, and because of the bite animation they will be paralyzed (and potentially killed). Uncharged shots may be less risky but Corrin gets little to no reward for actually landing it.
If you reflect the water ball, Corrin's chomp will just eat the water ball (unless they mistime the chomp). It's not a cut and dry thing, sadly.

I once 2 stocked a Sheik with Mewtwo, but she Dair'ed into a fully charged Up Smash and got stage spiked to oblivion by a Bair :V
And congratulations, C3CC C3CC ! I would like footage if you can get any....

Hey guys, I redid the roster thing everyone did earlier, mainly because my views on some characters have changed (which happens a LOT) and I noticed some things on my old one where I was like "Why did I put him there?" So I redid it. Luckily, the site remembers your past list, so thankfully I didn't have to go through and re-place them all again.
actual garbage THE SEQUEL.png
Some notes:
Still no Miis because I still don't care about them :p
These are in fact ordered from Most Liked to Least Liked. (Example: Sonic is lowest in "Indifferent", that means he is just shy of being in the "Dislike" listings)
My secondaries are also considered my "pockets" for the most part.

That is all. :p

Hey guys.

After training today, I found that my ability to play Mewtwo has gotten worse and worse. My typical training routine is three-stocking Level 8 CPUs, 3 rounds as Bowser and 2 rounds as Mewtwo. But today, I went about 6 rounds with Mewtwo trying to beat characters without having to restart; I was only able to do this with Diddy Kong. I struggled with Mario, Robin, Ness, a little bit with Villager, and (the straw that broke my back) King DeDeDe...

I was screwing up a lot - walking into smashes, not being able to turn around fast enough because they kept getting behind me, I even had my shield broken at one point. I know Mew^2 and Blue are out there - can anybody link me to some videos of them from the current patch? I mentioned earlier that I thought about dropping Mewtwo as a secondary because he's just become so unenjoyable now that I play him so poorly.

Thanks for any help you guys give.

Thank you! I'm really trying my best to find any videos. I already contacted my classmate to see if any of the attendants happens to have any footage. I wish it was on my Wii U so I could have recorded it!

(P.S for some reason I feel like I am playing as frieza from Dragon Ball Z Whenever I play as mewtwo, I wonder why.....)

Omg guys!

Check the vs recorder thread in our Mewtwo forum. Check out Tourney Locator's Shockwave playlists on youtube to find Mew². For Blue, search for LoF|Blue; he's on several channels since he travels around a bit.
