What a time to be alive, knowing that Smash is going to soon have about 58 characters on the roster is just incredible, more than four times the size of the original's roster.

I've been almost completely inactive in the Smash community due to work responsibilities for a while now. Still playing in free time, and keeping up with the news, but no posting or contributing. I just had to pop in and add my voice to the many praising new Mewtwo. He finally feels like a more complete character with a cohesive game plan. Now that his speed, lag, combos, and hit boxes are improved his threat level is increased. Now his low weight feels more like a fair design choice and the character seems more balanced. My only real issues are minor stuff, I still sail past or bounce off the ledge sometimes, but in terms of battling capabilities Mewtwo is vastly improved. I was convinced of bottom 5 placement but the amazing mobility options, damage racking, and kill potential are pushing Mewtwo's viability far higher. I'm interested to see how results play out and where he lands in public perception, but at least he is usable now and jumped up some. If nothing else, I'm having more fun and feeling far less helpless playing the Legend. My Smash friends say he feels more threatening to fight as well.

I really loved that.... I remember in the 64 days just how much I wished that Charizard was in the game every time he exited the Pokéball.... he would have probably have been my main forever in every Smash if just he was in 64.... same with Bowser if he was in (and Charizard wasn't).... those were the two characters that I wanted so freaking much in that game.
But oh well, I liked Kirby and mained him in every game up until 4. Then I started playing all the Smashes again, but with a new main.

I'm pretty sure I've gotten jab locks to happen with the base of ftilt but they end a lot faster than tipper ftilt and obviously Shadow Ball. And I actually never thought to use nair to force tumble on someone on a platform. Welcome to not playing the game for 3 months and forgetting almost everything about your character!
It's a very quick and safe way to setup a jablock since it works at all percentages due to the set knockback of Nair. Here's a quick video i threw together about a month ago just to show off how it looks:

So: :4metaknight: and :4lucina: have been part of my main list for ages, :4mewtwo: was planned to be among them, but the fact he wasn't very viable made me question him compared to a character like :4greninja. Now that :4mewtwo: has been graced with such good buffs, and the fact :4cloud: is out and fun to play, I'm back up to 4 characters. Not only that, but :4greninja: and :4corrin:/:4corrinf: intrigue me. SO. MANY. CHARACTERS. TO. PLAY. Especially from Fire Emblem, however, I typically only main 1 character from a franchise, so for example:
Fire Emblem: :4lucina:
Kirby: :4metaknight:
Pokemon: :4mewtwo:
Final Fantasy/3rd party: :4cloud:
If I enjoy :4corrin:/:4corrinf: when they come out, I may be tempted to break that rule of mine.
(However, I should probably not play that many characters competitively)
Anyways, :4mewtwo: is probably going to be truly viable now, and I enjoy seeing that of him after all this time.

My favorites to use in order: :4mewtwo::4ness::4greninja::4lucas::4charizard::4samus::4marth::4lucina::4shulk::4robinm::4palutena::4feroy:
I use too many Fire Emblem characters, and I don't own a single game from the series aside from the Awakening Demo. ;_;

when it comes to characters I use, I pretty much only used characters that had tails, because I'm a bit obsessed and a bit of an idiot.
My mains used to be :
:4charizard: - For his very large tail and I liked his style, but some matchups are impossible and he is really slow in the air
:4yoshi: - For his tail attacks, but starting to feel he doesn't fit my style and I don't do that great with him and I get frustrated

Now I'm trying to make it:
:4mewtwo: - For his huge tail and he's fun to play, his floatyness and weight are really irritating but I'm trying to overcome that
:4cloud: - Super fun to play, and fits my style really well, first character where I decided to screw my obsession finally

Once the Feb patch hits, things will change depending on buffs and nerfs I bet, and I have to try:4corrin: and :4bayonetta:
Bayonetta especially, as she was one of my most wanted characters.

Honestly, even though Dr. Mario is listed as my secondary on my profile, I hardly every use him. He's only there because he was my main before Mewtwo came out. I have a tough time using multiple characters at once. I don't really know why, but I like consistency, and, as a result, I tend to superglue myself to one character and only branch out in easygoing matches, if then. So, yeah, Mewtwo is basically the only character I really "use." However, in an effort not to be a boring, jaded person, I guess I could list characters I use in casual matches:p. In order of frequency...

:4drmario:: He's my old main, and I still find him fun to use. Dr. Tornado and his heavier feel make him more fun to use than Mario, in my opinion, and, honestly, I don't think he's as bad as most people seem to think.

:4lucina:: She's fun to play as, and all of her attacks feel solid, no matter where they connect. Unlike Marth, I don't have to put in time to learn to "tip" properly, which is the only way I get any satisfaction out of using him. Basically, to me, Lucina is more fun than Marth simply because it's easier to feel good about myself when I use her. Immediate gratification, I suppose. I know I'm only hurting myself by using an objectively inferior clone of Marth, but I only ever use Lucina in casual matches, so it's not like anything's really getting affected in the long run. Briefly considering using Roy instead of Lucina when the former was released, but I don't feel comfortable getting all up in my opponent's face like Roy has to, and he's simply not as much fun to play as. Oh, and Lucina is what got me interested in Fire Emblem in the first place, so that's pretty neat-o, too!

:4falcon:/:4ganondorf:: Used for styling and disrespect, and, plus, they're both fun to use. That's pretty much it.

:4iggy:: The character I heavily considered maining before I discovered how much I liked Doc and how little I liked Iggy. I use Iggy solely because of his physical appearance and mannerisms; nothing more. I hate his projectile-dependent playstyle and the way he feels, but I love him in the Mario series. Hardly ever used.

I'm also definitely going to give Corrin and test spin or two once he's released. I love the way his moveset looks, although I'm not sure if I'll like his playstyle. We'll see. Bayonetta looks alright, now that I've gotten over my admittedly petty disdain for her inclusion in Smash, but she doesn't look like someone I'll use very often in casual matches. Don't get me wrong: Bayonetta doesn't look bad; but she doesn't really hold my interest, either.

I could go over all of the characters I've used and 'mained' throughout this game but then almost every character head would be used, at least for the former. As for my current 'mains'...

Mewtwo and R.O.B. are the characters whos meta I wish to help advance when I get around to going to tournaments (finally got my g1 so just another year), MK is pretty much the 'back up' character. Just a high tier character I enjoy and can use and Ganon's just fun.

I only main :4mewtwo: since he is my favorite character in the game along with :4metaknight:, who I used before I got Mewtwo. I continued to use him because I was disappointed with how Mewtwo ended up. The buffs inspired me to pick up :4mewtwo: again!

When I'm playing casually, I pretty much use every character. Though, my most used character other than :4mewtwo::4metaknight: is probably :4feroy:.

I feel really confident with Mewtwo, the other characters I use are in my signature, too.

Everything is going to change in Febuary, though. Once Bayonetta is release, I'll definitely spend a majority of my time with her, whereas I sorta have to filter out my "secondaries" and my "co-mains"...

I used to play MK like 5 months ago. Mewtwo was my secondary, but, later, he ended up being my main because MK wasn't so fun anymore.

it's really interesting how people choose their mains, from playstyle to appearance to character loyalty to their power level to whatever it could end up being, everyone has a completely different reason. Some may share a reason but even within that shared reason some slight differences or extra reasons come out.

Though I do wish I wasn't the only one who chose based on tails at first...

But everyone is special in their own way. I know I chose Falcon for his 'tail' too ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Hello! I wanted to share some juicy info I stumbled upon when browsing Game Faqs, regarding the the ballot winners. I actually shared this already in the Corrin boards, but because I frequent the Mewtwo ones I may as well post it.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/633202-super-smash-bros-for-wii-u/73017398/839638290

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/633202-super-smash-bros-for-wii-u/73017398/839639658

Basically, the user named Kyoskue, claimed that he is a marketing specialist whose team was hired by Nintendo during the campaign of Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U. The account he is using is not his but from a friend who lend it to him to protect his identity in case he was violating his NDA agreement. He is pretty much sharing some info about how the ballot characters came to be and that Corrin was basically added as advertisement for Fates; he claims he knows this due to having access to text documents during the marketing campaign and throughout his relationship with Nintendo. I recommend you to take a read to those links, and if you want more you can browse the thread he was posting in for additional info.

Of course, due to the nature of this claims there is no real way to prove he is the real deal, but what he says makes a lot of sense and it's better than the rants of "the ballot is a lie because my character didn't make it in" posts, and if it is true, then Corrin's addition wasn't added due to Sakurai bias but because Nintendo pushed for it. So this one isn't on Sakurai, again if true, and people oughta cut him some slack (They won't regardless, because hatedoms are like that).

It is mentioned as well that Mewtwo had some nasty bugs before being fully implemented, and actually some of them carried over after he was downloaded. This could explain why him and the rest of the DLC characters have no customs. Also, remember how Sakurai vaguely said that Mewtwo was an experiment? Apparently, the reason was because Nintendo wanted to see first how their servers would handle the data and traffic when releasing DLC characters. Suddenly, a lot of things are falling into place.

Well since everyone is listing the characters they play i might as well do it too, these are the only characters i've invested any serious time learning in this game, the rest i have played maybe only 20 - 200 matches

:4falcon: - When i was 6 years old and tried Smash for the first time, i was instantly amazed when i was shown Captain Falcons moves and then only wanted to play as Falcon and some Samus in that game. Since then i have mained him in every Smash game to date! I love the super aggresive and combo oriented playstyle while having speed and power at the same time, and also find the character awesome. He just fits my playstyle perfectly and i have played the majority of my matches with him in this game.

:4mewtwo:- I think Mewtwo is awesome as a character, probably my favorite pokemon, and i had Mewtwo as a co main / secondary in Melee, so i was super hyped when it turned out he finally was going return as DLC in this game! I was however a little bit disappointed when he was released and didn't play the character very much because i heard everyone saying how bad he was and eventually believed it and continued playing my other characters.

However, about 2 - 3 months ago i decided that if i had been waiting 8 years for his return to the series i better start playing the character despite his flaws and after investing serious time into playing him more and finding out about his combos and techniques i now find him to be one of the most interesting and dynamic characters to play as in all of the cast! Very underrated and underplayed so there is lot's of untapped potential in the character especially after the recent patch so it will be interesting to see how far we can take Mewtwo from now on!

:4rob:- R.O.B was my secondary / co-main in Brawl and it naturally became so that my skills with the character kind of transitioned between the games so he's probably my second best character even if i don't necessarily enjoy playing him as much as Mewtwo for example. Love the projectile based playstyle and all the different tricks and techniques you can do with his Gyro move (Watch the combo tutorials on my Youtube channel if you want to :D )

:4morton:- Morton is a character i've just had fun playing since the games release, and part of the reason i picked him up was because i think he's probably one of the most underplayed / underrated characters in the game (even if he isn't super good). I like the unusual moveset he has and the combos and tricks you can do with Koopakart and Mechakoopas. I would feel confident enough to pull him out at a tournament at this point.

:4samus: - Before the game was released i was interested in trying to main Samus in hope of her being better than in Brawl, but i didn't understand how to use her at all and missed her missile canceling from previous games so i dropped her pretty fast. However, about 2 months ago i met a Samus player called Lian on for Glory and only won once when he was using Samus and was amazed by how good he was. Contacted him after we played and turns out he is the best Samus in Europe and is also from Sweden! So now i have picked up the character and practice with Lian every now and then in Samus dittos in hope of becoming as good as him.

:4bowser: - I love Bowser as a character and would probably have mained him previously if he was more viable between the games (Project M Bowser is super cool though). Play him every now and then for fun cause i think he's easily the most fun heavy to play as.

:4link: - Was inspired by Izaws videos around the Brawl days so he was my secondary in Brawl and like R.O.B the skills from Brawl transitioned over to an extent and it feels natural to play as him in Smash 4 too. Really cool character to use even if i miss some of the technical stuff he could do in Brawl.

It's hard for me to pinpoint exactly what I like about playing Mewtwo, I just ended up enjoying playing as him more and more over time. I also liked using him whenever I touch Melee for being a "smooth" character in an otherwise stiff game (alongside Luigi).

Maybe it's just that I like his calculated approach to getting damage or combos. Maybe it's his similarities to the heavies that I also enjoy playing (without some of their major hangups).

Other characters I play:

:4cloud:: Formerly Roy, there's just a natural flow (lifestream?) to everything he does. Managing Limit is fun, too.

:4duckhunt::4pacman::4shulk:: These three allow for crazy ingenuity and improvisation.

:4drmario::4mario::4luigi:(in order): I play Mario in every Smash game, and while he's good in this game, I prefer the more punishing Doc (I think he's a great secondary for Mewtwo as well). Luigi I want to like but he's just a bit too awkward-moving for my taste.

:4gaw:: My Brawl main, even with his nerfs is still very intuitive, and feels more fleshed out with improvements to formerly useless moves.

:4lucas:: Much more cerebral, and thus more rewarding, than Ness, at least for me. I'm not really a fan of going ham with aerials.

:4samus:: She was always interesting, but especially so after experiencing Mewtwo and how she differs in approach compared to him.

:4megaman:: The first Smash 4 main, the novelty of a character with projectile characters was too much to resist (and I didn't care much for Villager).

:4robinm:: No surprise that some who enjoys tactical approaches plays the tactician. We'll see if :4corrinf: will be a good companion (her design looks great if nothing else, better than that doofy prince male). Funny how I prefer male Robin, but female Corrin.

:4ryu:: Hey look, a top tier that I like! But even though he's super good, he still has to use everything he has and use it well to win, which I respect.

Oh, we're giving reasons, too? Let's see,

:4mewtwo:-has always been one of my favorite pokemon, his moveset really gels with me and I love his voice and effects. I vowed that if he came back, I would main him, and I have.

:4feroy:-was never a fan in Melee, but his new design, altered playstyle, and my overall love for FE in the years since Melee make him one of my favorite characters this time around.

:4charizard:-another of my favorite pokemon, I love playing with the kind of physical power Charizard wields.

:4ganondorf:-Favorite Zelda character, who doesn't like just destroying everyone who meets your eyes in just a few hits?

:4bowser:-Has been one of my favorite characters to play around with since Melee, but I never could get the most mileage out of his moveset until now.

:4corrinf:-love her design, the fact that she can turn into a dragon, her unique as hell-looking moveset, and all the salt she generated.

:4gaw:-love his retro stylin' and profilin'

Yesterday I played 5 player Smash with coworkers. Here's a highlight reel for my last match as Mewtwo. Final Smash is only item turned on.

As for reasons for mains:

:4mewtwo:- Favorite Pokemon since I found out he was playable in Melee. Also, he was legendary. Still my favorite Pokemon now. Outside of Smash, Pokemon is one of my favorite series.

:4ness:- Main in 64. At the time, I liked him because he was a kid like me. Then I enjoyed EarthBound because of him, and he's been one of my mains since. Mother series is one of my favorite series as well.

:4greninja: - New Pokemon. Also, I like the Substitute doll when I manage to get it to work. :substitute:

:4lucas: - I liked Mother 3. Also, has cool alternates.

:4charizard: - What's left of Pokemon Trainer from Brawl. Mega Charizard X is fun as well.

:4samus: - Have almost all of the Metroid games. Also like some of the colors. Fun to use.

:4marth: - Better than Lucina. Like landing tippers. Easy to use.

:4lucina: - Better alternate colors than Marth.

:4shulk: - Monado Arts are fun.

:4palutena: - Because of her anime trailer from Shaft.

:4robinm: - Fun to use. Also like switching between male and female.

:4feroy: - Because fun DLC character and similar to other Fire Emblem characters.

:4cloud: - Because he's very new and fun to use. His limit function is fun as well.

And then a lot of other characters because I like trolling with them against my co-workers.

That's probably due to her outfits completely referencing different characters from Awakening, not just plain color swaps:

My faves are Default (of course) as well as Cordelia's (Red and White). :3
I know they were referencing other Awakening characters. Mines are Tharja, Cherche, and Cordelia's. Nowi and Tikki come pretty close too.

here is my "mains, secondary, for fun, testing/lab/training" list:

:4bowserjr:: My solid Main. have played him since day one and is my to go to.
:4jigglypuff:: Secondary, because I love Jigglypuff both in smash and pokemon and its my "smashsona"
:4mewtwo:: Secondary, always loved mewtwo since Melee and happy to see him in smash4
:4dedede:: the Third Secondary and my Main in Brawl
:4lucas::4shulk::4greninja::4rob::4ryu::4wiifit::4luigi:: for fun but not as good as them as my secondaries
:4metaknight::4cloud::4pikachu::4mario:: Testing, Labbing and Training

:4bayonetta:: Gotta have them legs and will mostly be my new main/Secondary

:4mewtwo:Awesome pokemon, incredibly technical and difficult to play.
:4shulk:Monados are extremely technical and using them is sooo much fun.
:4diddy:My friends play top tiers... And he fits my playstyle, unlike every other high/top tier character.

Kirby has got to be one of the most frustrating mus we have
It's not that tough, you just have to be really determined to not let him approach, or in other words, be extra lame. There's no point going for much combos since he's too light and floaty.

Don't try to punish him by shielding in general, especially vs. his aerials as they're virtually lagless on landing. Keep moving and your distance.

If you space properly, you are bound to eventually rack up enough damage with projectiles and tilts.
