I did, but I didn't make it top 32 obviously. I was probably around top 300-500, don't know exactly.

Edit: Apparently I placed somewhere around 220-380 :3.

For that alone, you're my hero. : )
There were 1926 entrants. I am assuming that they gave enough Byes to make the tournament a power of 2, so there would be 2048 "entrants" (counting Byes).

Doing some math by the end of the first round there would be 1024 players in winners and 1024 players (counting Byes) in losers.

End of second round there would be 512 players winners, 1024 in losers and 512 DQed

End of third round 256 winners, 768 losers and 1024 DQed

End of fourth round 128, 512, 1408

End of fifth round 64, 320, 1664

I was DQed in the 6th round, which would mean that me and another 160 players lost in the same round. Placings where there are ties are normally calculated by the top placement. Only 224 people advanced to the 7th round so 225 would be my placement.

What this means is that I tied for 225th with 160 other people. So I guess you could say I got 225-384.

225 out of 1926 isn't that bad to be honest :3. I went all Mewtwo.

That talk about GF not allowing Sakurai to put shiny colorations in is the kind of thing I've been trying to bring attention to when Sakurai naysayers blame the man for everything bad in this world. Sakurai is the director for sure but the properties he handles are not his and he has to comply with their owners at times, so it grinds me when I see people complaining "Oh, so you couldn't bother to give Charizard it's shiny palette?", it is not as simple as that.

As silly as GF's decision in this matter is though, I don't see any need to hate it for that. I still like the games they do despite their core mechanics not changing over the years. While the video game industry needs innovation, I rather if pokemon stays the way it is.

Glad to see someone used Mewtwo at Evo.

As for GF or The Pokemon Company preventing shinies in Smash or amiibo costumes in other games, I hear that a lot but would like to see a reliable source for it. I believe it, but would still like to see a source.

Also, I get tired of seeing people mix a part with apart...not related to this thread. I've seen ARTICLES that mix them up...

But the Melee one for Mewtwo was on point aside from the eyes

which were all the same anyway
I think the key term there is "aside from the eyes". That one tiny difference technically makes it legal for Sakurai to include a "Shiny" Mewtwo without The Pokémon Company's permission. If he had made the eyes green, then The Pokémon Company would have grounds for a lawsuit, but, since he didn't, they didn't have anything to stand on. It's the same thing in Smash 4 for Greninja and, to a lesser extent, Mewtwo and Charizard.

I just had this crazy evil idea for a Mewtwo buff: After grabbing an opponent with Confusion, prevent them from jumping afterwards. With this the opponents will stop getting out of reach so easily since they would always jump out and Mewtwo, despite having good aerials, couldn't pursue them due to the floatiness and sluggishness of his jumps. They will still have a chance to attack or tech the move though to prevent it from being extremely OP.

Ok so reading mewtwo's trophy I noticed theres nothing that references to why mewtwo has a light body other that the words "floaty" and "telekenises" but they weren't even used in that context let alone the same sentence. Sakurai explains that Rosalina is lightwieght due to her anti gravity abilities but not him. I get that Mewtwo could utilize the same type of effects if his telekinesis mean't manipulating gravity, but I always saw his psychic powers as an invisible force or energy that lifts him and other objects/people of the ground. Its like saying Darth Vader should be lightweight cause he uses the Force. ( I would say somthing about Superman but we all know that he has made logic his *****)

I wouldnt mind if he got put to around her weight in addition to other buffs since Rose has other assets that make her balanced like cockblocker-er I mean Luma, like buffing Confusion like some people on here were proposing.

Just give Mewtwo's offensive capabilities a sizeable buff.
He's a glass cannon so keep it that way but give him a far greater reward than he currently has for taking risks.

I feel like an idiot who just discovered breathing. You know how Confusion lifts Mewtwo in the air thus aiding his recovery? As you may also know after one use, if you use it one more time in the air he does the move normally while falling. So you have a falling command grab that can aid you in your landing, just like how characters like Yoshi, Wario and Bowser do. It is common sense but for some reason I've never implemented it in my gameplay, I haven't been optimizing Confusion as I should!

...That's actually a good idea! As someone who almost exclusively uses Confusion as a reflector, I should try this too!

The best way to capitalize on this is by always recover using Confusion first, then your second jump, space yourself and use Confusion upon landing next to your opponent. Confusion has a wide grab box which makes it ideal as a landing command grab.
I just played a couple of matches and ate my opponents for breakfast with this. I've been trying to mix it up as well on stage by doing a forward jumping Confusion followed by a retreating Confusion upon landing all on the same jump. My opponent was using Yoshi and he had a hard time approaching me thanks of this. If he jumped and attacked he would get grabbed, if he jumped and threw and egg it would be reflected back at it and/or even grab them. Admittedly is probably because it caught them off guard but it will be a great mix up option for mobility, stage control and recovery. It also makes it easy to grab opponents who challenge you in the air thanks to the wide grab box.

Edit: I was testing this on training mode a while ago. It seems that falling aerial Confusion, then double jump and then Fair might be a true combo. In order for it to work, you must connect Confusion just above your opponent without touching the ground. If done correctly, Mewtwo will float in place during the duration of the move. Immediately follow up with double jump + Fair.
According to the combo counter in that mode, Confusion does 8 hits but every time I managed to follow it up with a Fair it counts up 9 hits; the enemy seems to have no time to perform any action between those moves. Not sure how reliable is the combo counter in training mode but it is something that might be worth testing with a human opponent. If someone could verify this it would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Nevermind about that last part. The CPU seems to be able to successfully air dodge it every time. Stupid misleading combo counter. Still, you can bait air dodges with this. Although just to be sure, testing on a human should be the best way.

Not sure what game/app it is, but this is Lucario/Basketball levels of weird. :150:
At first I didn't really care for this game, but now I'm definitely sold.

I hope it comes out in the west.

They weren't gonna change the eyes just for one color swap

I don't think so anyway

ftr I like the cyan-ish Mewtwo better than regular shiny

I find a lot of the "weight" in determining character weight in Smash (har har) mainly comes from the appearance of the character.
Forgive me for saying this, but Mewtwo at first glance looks pretty scrawny and as a psychic only gives further credence to the theory that his muscle mass is lacking, like Alakazam.

A big factor in weight really is how much muscle the character has. Just look at Captain Falcon and Ganondorf. Not to mention Roy who used to be lighter than Marth yet now that he's buffed up he's heavier. And none of the females break average when it comes to weight except Samus when she has her armour on since none of them are overtly buff.

Me too! Personally, I find cyan Mewtwo to be much more visually appealing than Mewtwo's actual Shiny palette. I actually created a cyan palette swap for Mewtwo in Project M before I knew that Smash 4 Mewtwo would have such a coloration, so you can imagine my surprise when an official, similar palette was shown off. I had quite the smile on my face:p.

I agree. Mewtwo's tendency to float around instead of actually walking helps give credence to that idea, too, and, like you said, lack of muscle mass is a very common cliché among powerful psychics. In any case, however, I do like how Mewtwo plays in Smash 4. In my opinion, it's very exciting, though I do wish that Mewtwo was just a tad more balanced.

As you already noticed, Confusion gives frame advantage to your opponent, always. In fact once your opponent understands this, hitting them with confusion puts Mewtwo in the disadvantageous position.

Confusion is more of a surprise attack or used to go through shields. It isn't that great to use it as an aerial approach, specially since it lags waaaaay too much. That Yoshi could have punished every Confusion on reaction if he just waited to see it before going for the punish.

Have you seen Mewtwo's legs? Lack of muscle, what? Lucario and Pikachu have much less muscles than Mewtwo does.

Also Ness and Lucas are heavies. Both kids, both have 0 muscles, both psychic, both heavy. Basically invalidates all of that.

Yes, weight is mostly done to make the character "feel right", but it's also skewed massively in favor of "character balance". In Mewtwo's case it's the latter, they wanted an specific feel to Mewtwo, that of a glass cannon. But he ended up being much more glass than he is cannon.

I don't know. "Muscular" isn't exactly the first thing that comes to mind when I see Mewtwo. He can appear pretty average-strength at first glance. If nothing else, he certainly doesn't look like he weighs 269 pounds. Nothing about him suggests a weight that high to me.

I also disagree on the second point. It may just be because the only time we've seen Mewtwo's weight have an effect on gameplay is in Smash, but it's hard for me to imagine him weighing 269 pounds. In my opinion, there's not really anything that feels wrong about Mewtwo being lightweight in Smash. It just sort of feels...natural, I guess. I'm sure that's because Mewtwo has always been a lightweight fighter in Smash, though, and I've just grown used to it. My next point may also help explain that feeling.

So, while Mewtwo being lightweight isn't necessarily canon, the idea of Mewtwo having extreme power and low defense is actually a grossly exaggerated version of his mainstream self. Mewtwo's strong suit in the main Pokémon games has always been his Special Attack and, to an extent, his Attack stats, while his Defense and Special Defense stats have always been his low point. Of course, neither of his Defense stats are truly low, but, relative to his other stats, they do fall a bit short. Smash's Mewtwo seems to be hyperbolizing that stat difference, which would explain his low weight, or "defense." It does make sense when you think about it, and, as I said before, I'm totally cool with it. I think Mewtwo being a glass cannon makes him more fun to play as. I do, however, wish he balanced a little better.

While I do agree they probably went a bit overboard in how light they made Mewtwo, I wouldn't consider the bulk in his legs muscle. He only learns one kick-based move in Pokemon as of Gen 6 (Low Kick via tutoring), and you've seen what happens when he tries to kick without adding psychic power in Melee.

If you'd actually played Ness's or Lucas's games, you'd see they're actually tanks who rely more on their physical strength in battle.

Their only offensive PSI (PSI Rockin' for Ness and PK Love for Lucas) are strong but eat gigantic amounts of PP (mana) making them impractical in general. They only use other forms of offensive PSI in Smash because the supportive PSI they normally use doesn't translate well to Smash (though Shield could have been a cool Magnet alternative, like a full-grown Timber Counter).
Also they're both mid-weights, not heavy. This may make them seem relatively heavy in a meta filled with lightweights but it's the truth.

Pokemon weights and sizes are rather inconsistent in the various game, manga and anime they appear in.
Max carrying Munchlax in the anime and Groudon/Arbok in the anime for example.

It's not exactly a new thing and Smash isn't canon anyway.

But we were talking about physical appearances and not in game stats or such.

Mewtwo's legs rival Arnold's in Terminator. He might never ever kick, but the first thing I noticed as soon as I played him the first time was how buffed his legs looked. And yes, they are muscly, they have outlines to show that it's muscle (and not fat).

If we're going by appearance there's no way any of the Pokemons (except Charizard), Earthbound or many other chars have a "heavier" appearance than Mewtwo. Plus Mewtwo is extremely tall, and being tall is the biggest weight changer in human physique (more so than fat). He also has a huge tail which would weight a ton.

I get that the weight stat is mostly done so that the character feels right, as I said. But with Mewtwo it honestly doesn't feel right with me and with almost all the smash community. Otherwise you wouldn't hear the phrase: "Wow, he's so light" everytime Mewtwo dies. I've never heard anyone say that about G&W, Pikachu, Kirby or Jigglypuff. Only about Mewtwo.

That said, even though the weight doesn't "feel right" I still think it was a good decision. He has a unique and fun design, but the problem is his offensive and defensive capabilities are not even remotely balanced against how easy he dies. I died at 53% from a Shulk F-Smash (sure he was at 113% rage, but he wasn't even in Smash mode, it was just a regular F-Smash). I've died at sub 20% from charged Smashes (with rage), etc.

Mewtwo is the char who dies the earliest in the game (Jiggz air mobility allow her to survive a bit longer), which is just stupid since his combo game sucks and he is FAR from being the one to kill the earliest.

Speaking of Mewtwo's physique, a lot of his mass must surely reside in his prominent tail. Mewtwo has a big tail even by Pokemon standards, which is no wonder why it hits so hard with it.

That was before the deal was fully finalized but it's more of that Rare was difficult to deal with and their relationship with Nintendo kinda dropped off after Conker.
I could have seen them happening eventually at least until Brawl had the company remained with Nintendo. But since they became Microsoft property the ship sailed for any future Smash installments.

I never played Playstation All Stars but I just can't shake this feeling of amusement about the roster. And not to sound like a Nintendo fanboy either, I actually own a PS3 back at home and love it, but I find it funny how characters like Megaman, Ryu and Snake ended up siding with the Nintendo cast despite having a lot of history in Sony consoles.
Yes, I'm aware that Megaman was born on the NES and that early Street Fighter games used to make the jump from arcade to Nintendo consoles but they've featured prominently on PlayStation as well. And then we have Snake who has a bigger association with Sony and yet didn't make it into PS All Stars, getting Raiden instead (don't get me wrong, I think Cyborg Ninja Raiden is awesome).
They kind of missed several opportunities there, like having Donte instead of Dante and not having a Final Fantasy character like Cloud or Sephiroth. The rest of the characters are fine but clearly outmatched to the star power that the Smash roster has, which has more than twice the amount. Smash even got to feature prominent third parties such as Sonic, Megaman, Pacman and Ryu to boot.

Ryu is kinda of a ***** in the video game world where he's been on everything from Xbox to Playstation to Dreamcast so it isn't as bad and Megaman moreso Nintendo considering 80% of his games are all on Nintendo systems. Snake I could see as the only Sony character that's on there but I hate how with PS All Stars, majority of its guest were for Advertising than history like freaking Big Daddy which his franchise started off as a Xbox 360 exclusive and the Donte/Cyborg Raiden situation.
