Also, this needs to be said. All the ugly hatred levelled at Sakurai for giving his own creations some TLC is really disturbing. You guys must not be aware that Dark Pit was one of the most requested characters for Smash 4 in Japan. Like, more than 90% of other characters. This isn't pure Sakurai bias. And even if Palutena is (she's not), Palutena is awesome.

Look at what you DO HAVE, rather than what you don't have.

Dark Pit does have some altered stats, as do Lucina and Dr. Mario. I am grateful for those characters! I like all of them, and I think they were handled well (I wish Dr. Mario ran faster, though).
Only Doc really has altered stats.
Pittoo has altered moves, and Lucy has no sweetspots. Honestly that sort of hurts Lucy's viability...but hey, at least she gets that cool down taunt.

Let's face it guys; who wouldn't give their favorite franchises slightly more representation?
We all think our favorite franchises to be more deserving. And none of us are really wrong for that, since "deserving" is an entirely subjective term.
I could definitely see Sakurai being the same way.

If anything, I see this as a redeeming trait; he's both proud and passionate about his work. It's good to have a director who actually cares about the games they make(even if they care a tad bit too much).

This is probably an exaggeration, but I could see this being true to some extent. I had secretly wanted Dark Pit playable myself; I just didn't think it would happen.

I know you're trying to be an optimistic Charizard about this but I REALLY can't stand the fact that they ruined Classic Mode to Kid Icarus's mission mode or whatever. Palutena doesn't deserve to be in.

I hope Palutena is removed

Now, those I disagree with. The Intensity system just offers more difficulty levels, along with having something at stake by losing. That said, classic mode WAS indeed ruined, but the intensity system ain't what ruined it.

And Palutena, to me, makes sense as an additon - moreso than Pittoo. She was one of the most threatening boss fights in KI:U, and she's been a part of the KI series since the beginning. And she's pretty fun to play as.

I didn't really know Dark Pit until I already had an idea who he was (Watched Chuggaconroy's playthrough). In 64 and Melee he didn't want to over represent his own franchises and only had Kirby, Brawl he ONLY added MK and Dedede, which is fine. Here he adds in Dark Pit and Palutena and gets some flack for showing some love to his fans from Uprising.

*facepalm* Classic mode, maybe, as it IS supposed to be CLASSIC MODE, but that's the only thing I find agreeable from all of this banter. I don't even PLAY Palutena and I think she deserved her spot plenty.

The only thing they brought over from Uprising was the Fiend's Cauldrin/Scale.
The whole map based thing is new.
What's that supposed to mean?
Dark Pit has the exact same speed, strength, and weight as Pit.
Only 3 of his attacks are different, and only two of which are noticeably so.

Ok, you said something about Lucy (I assume Lucina :p) not being viable?
Oh, yeah. Lucy is short for Lucina. I just like to call the clones by nickname.

I don't really play her much, but because she lacks a tipper, she isn't as potentially powerful as Marth. A skilled Marth player should land the tipper consistently enough that they end up doing more damage in the end, hence making her the less powerful option at high level play.

I'm not saying she's not viable. She just has a tad bit less potential when it comes to dishing out damage.

I'm also just parroting what a few Marth/Lucina mains told me, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

This is one of the reasons I never mind myself getting into high level play, because no one seems to just do what they want to do.

No hype is no fun if you catch my drift skills

You say this, and it's a popular meme to be sure, but I don't think the Marth/Lucina differences are as cut and dry as all that! For one thing, look at how amazing Brolylegs is with Lucina! No Marth player (other than Zero, but he's Zero) in Smash 4 has ever impressed me as much as Broly does with Lucina - the dude wrecks Diddys all day long. Part of the reason I prefer Lucina is that she has "better" hitboxes on her smash attacks.

And I'm NOT "trying to be an optimistic Charizard." No, I am optimistic. I have attained that, because I have resolved to be thankful for what I have. There is no "try."

I know. I've seen the image macro. I was taking issue with the "try" part, as if I could fail in being optimistic. That just irks me, because it sounds weak.

And forgive me, I can't quote more than one post at a time. The 3DS IS weak...

I do like the roster for smash 4 my biggest want is already on the way (mewtwo) and unlike most i could care less if its mantwo or femtwo. just that mewtwo is in. sure, there are others i miss (lucas, wolf and snake *cough cough*) but with dlc being a thing im pretty certain they will be added. and yah. i do want more reps from metroid and donkey kong... and maybe more secret newcomers (not clones, but newcomers.) but other than those things i give sakurai a pat on the back for caring about us mewtwo fans at all.

Dang. If Dark Pit was that heavily requested in Japan, then he by all means deserved to be in, Sakurai Bias or no. Being more requested than 90% of cast is a lot, and I wasn't aware of his status of a popular choice in Japan. Shows how much I know. But, if that is indeed true, he deserved it, and I take back what I said about him having undeserved priority over over Alph. Alph's cool and all, but 90% more than the rest of the cast is massive.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Marth ranks over Lucina once a reliable tier list comes out after several tournaments have been played. Good Marth players, like stated above, should be able to hit with the tipper consistently, and poorer hitbox placement on Marth's end might affect him competitively some, but I can't say much on the matter since I don't know how drastic the difference in hitboxes is. That said, I do know that the tipper is probably going to out her at least little behind Marth. Also, just because you haven't seen an impressive Marth doesn't mean that he can't be. The reason, if I could guess, Zero is showing off Lucina is because most people consider her trash at this point, and he's trying to show them she may not be. That said, I'd like to see him play Marth in the same level and see how good she looks then.
Also, I'm pretty sure Lucina is in a similar predicament to Pichu. Pichu was a deliberate joke character. Lucina is a deliberate beginner Marth, designed to help Marth newbies get to know his basic playstyle more easily, without the competitive tipped sword. So, I'm pretty sure that they were both designed to be inferior characters. But, there's nothing wrong with that. It's just a design choice.

Saying "Trying to be optimistic" is just a manner of speaking. He's basically saying that, while you may be optimistic about the situation, he either isn't or isn't to the same extent. It's just an idiom.

I agree that looking at Lucina like "beginner Marth" is a valid way to see that character. However, I feel like Lucina's hitboxes on her smash attacks are different enough from Marth that she can be played slightly differently. Her hits are in between Marth's tipper and the base of his blade, as far as damage and knockback go, so you can kill people earlier at point blank range, or at weird angles. I'm not saying that's an advantage to base your entire playstyle on, but it is a perk nonetheless.

I've seen Zero play Lucina a few times, but I've also seen him play Marth. Zero can play any character. The only dedicated Lucina main I've ever seen footage of was Brolylegs. That's why I brought him up. The dude is really good at Street Fighter 4 as well, so he has fighting game fundamentals going for him. I like what I've seen him do with Lucina and her smash attacks.

Most people's beef with Dark Pit is not so much that he got in, but he's just a carbon copy clone of pit. Hell I hardly see any regular pit users cause people wanna be "edgy"

Again, my issue with Dark Pit is that he feels like too much. It's hard to explain, but look at it this way; in the 3DS version, Kid Icarus has more music tracks and trophies than Metroid and DK COMBINED. People like to ***** about how many characters Fire Emblem has in Smash, but it's got 13 main series games, with a 14th on the way, and craptons of good characters to choose from.
Kid Icarus was rescued from total obscurity just a few years ago, yet this game treats it like one of Nintendo's major franchises. I don't mind clones, so long as they make sense. But if Dark Pit WAS unique, it would be even worse, as that would mean that time went into making him unique instead of adding Mewtwo in the base game, or rescuing Wolf or Lucas from the cutting room floor. Wonder how much time it took to give Palutena 12 unique freaking specials, time that could have been spent elsewhere.

Exactly. If Dark Pit had gotten the deluxe treatment, people would really be a bit more salty about him. It's good that he's just a clone. Also, just like it makes sense flavor-wise that Marth and Lucina are similar, it makes sense for Dark Pit to be the same way with Pit. In Uprising, Dark Pit is a mirror image of Pit - a dopplegänger. It makes sense then that Pit would be an even match for him, even if Dark Pit is a tad lame... I've grown to like Dark Pit's personality, though. I like both of the angels, though I admit I can't use them seriously to save my life, ha ha.

I main Pit and, outside of a few specific matchups, he is considered the superior pick.

Dark Pit reminds me TOO much of Shadow the Hedgehog whom I find lame.

I remember when I tried arguing that the differences between Ness and Lucas in Brawl was bigger than the difference between Pit and Dark Pit...at that time everyone else was telling me Ness and Lucas were exactly the same playstyle while Pit and Dark Pit are played very differently. Now in this thread I'm seeing people say there are only three moves that are different between Pit and DP but they are the same otherwise...

That's because people did the research and recorded the numbers. Litterally only three moves are different. Now there is actual evidence, rather then just subjective opinion.

The Electroshock Arm sends foes at a 45 degree angle while the Upperdash launches them strait up. Electroshock also does, uh, I think it was 0.5% more damage. Upperdash also kills at about 140%, while Electroshock's KO% depends on stage positioning. Upperdash kills more consistently, though, and is a good set up for juggles. This is why Pit's side special is considered superior.
Electroshock can OHKO Luma, however, but it leaves you open.

The Silver Bow has far less curving ability, but does 2% damage extra damage at full charge and, uh, I think it was 0.25% more damage uncharged. It also has just a tiny bit more knockback. The extra damage is hardly noticeable, but the curvature is. Again, Pit's arrows are considered superior.

The side tilt is an add one. They both look the same, have the same sweet spot, and do the same amount of damage. But for whatever reason, a sweet spotted side tilt from Pit can kill at a decent percentage. Dark Pit's can't. I have no idea what that's about, but Pit's is undeniably better.

...I got too into this.

I agree with this part of your post.
I wish that they made Classic Mode into an Arcade-style romp (aka how Classic Mode was in Melee)
Then, the Kid Icarus rip-off mode would have been Adventure Mode, basically the same thing but with set paths and actual stages to clear. It would be shorter than Melee's Adventure Mode, but longer than Brawl's Classic Mode.

I feel indifferent to Classic mode in Smash for Wii U.
On one hand fighting up to 7 CPU opponents speeds things up a lot. On the other hand Master Core really makes me think twice about playing Classic.

Yeah there really was NO point for Palutena to have all unique customs, time could and should have been spent on other characters,

It's a sad day when you simply have to accept that your character will always be inferior compared to another character of similar traits.
Seriously, the only reason to use Dark Pit over Pit is because you simply like him more. Pit is so much stronger in almost every way.
It just isn't fair....
Please buff him, Sakurai....

I still think he should get a total rebalance. Not new moves, but a rebalance. Make the difference between Pit and Pittoo like :foxmelee: and :falcomelee:; completely invisible to most players (which means no extra work), but just enough to be meaningful.

Other way around for me. I can't see 7 CPUs at once. There's always at least five out of my range of vision. But I find Master Core a rewarding boss fight.

I find it weird that you guys think Alph should've been a character instead of Dark Pit, where did all the sudden support and defense for Alph come from, Alph barely had fans who wanted him in before he was revealed.

I supported Alph heavily for quite a while, but it's just weird and strange that people want him as a separate character just now.

That's what I was thinking. Alph and Olimar can both only do so much with their Pikmin- and it's not like they can do different things in their games.
I mean, sure- Alph has Rock Pikmin and Olimar has Purple Pikmin...but that's not enough.

(Do you guys like my Avatar, btw?)

On the Classic Mode topic: 3DS version of Classic is fairly true to the original concept. I really enjoy my 3DS version. It just sucks that there aren't many 3DS players that I know IRL...

This is one of the reasons I never mind myself getting into high level play, because no one seems to just do what they want to do.

No hype is no fun if you catch my drift skills
Even at fairly casual levels its just so much easir to kill with marth. It's one reason I don't like the 3 clones. Rather than offer a different gameplay experience you just wind up with 2 of the same character, but one of them is worse. I really like lucina so id rather she were a marth alt who was just as good as him.

Why are people even arguing about Palutena? I can't think of anyone who deserved her spot more, except ridley who didn't get in for gameplay reasons

Lucina and Dark Pit I'll give you as "worse" versions of other characters (though I don't feel that way), however, Dr. Mario is quite a bit different than Mario, much more than the other two.

I agree that Palutena was a logical pick for Smash. She was on many people's lists long before she was revealed. I think they handled her well. Palutena is sort of a "boss" character, really, so it felt appropriate that she'd get some special treatment to set her apart a bit.

It's a sad day when you simply have to accept that your character will always be inferior compared to another character of similar traits.
Seriously, the only reason to use Dark Pit over Pit is because you simply like him more. Pit is so much stronger in almost every way.
It just isn't fair....
Please buff him, Sakurai....

....Dark Pit is a badass. .-. Everyone who played Uprising should know this.
I played Uprising, and there was a bad*** in that game, but it wasn't Dark Pit,
It was Hades,
:troll::troll::troll::troll::troll:
Dark Pit was a little annoying to me, plus he struck me more as sort of the opposite of Pit. I like him more than Pit though.

I don't really think anybody else was bringing up Alph except me. I was bringing him up not because I'd give him his own spot normally, but because I'd give him his own spot relative to Dark Pit. However, as others have said, Alph would be quite a bit more difficult to make a completely different character from Olimar given the timeframe that clones are given, so I've dropped that argument.
I believe I've said this before, but I consider Palutena a completely logical inclusion and have nothing against her.
And, yes, as a Dr. Mario main, I can confirm that Doc is considerably different from Mario. He's got Dr. Tornado, and he's heavier, falls faster, and has much stronger attacks. That said, his recovery's not outstanding and he's quite a bit slower than Mario, so people say that may make him inferior. Of course, because there are no reliable tier lists at this point, I've resolved to say that Dr. Mario and Mario are at least equals until considerable evidence surfaces.
he struck me more as sort of the opposite of Pit.
I'm fairly certain that's the entire point of being the literal mirror of Pit:p.

If Pit is right handed, and Dark Pit come from his reflection...why isn't Dark Pit left handed?

Sakurai has some explaining to do.

Dr Mario is whatever still not different enough for me but fine. But if lucina and dark pit were alts instead of clones they'd play the same way and be better. Fans would benefit and the roster would feel better without filler
