My speculation:
-It uses the same animation effect as a shield break, but I can't imagine it will be identical or last as long. If it is enough to consistently pull off a smash or kill throw even with the opponent mashing, it will be good
-Probably immediately. In the trailer Mewtwo stood right up after the flash and crouch, ready to rumble
-Probably immediately, but there will likely be far superior follow-up options, because...
-Knockback for Double Disable will probably be negligible. We want a quick move with good power to take that opening!
-I highly doubt it. It seems that the hitbox is bigger, but we need to know how big, and I really hope eye contact is no longer needed
-Not sure. Maybe slight damage or behaving like Zamus Paralyzer?
(Responding from my phone so I can't quote/respond to every line.)

- I doubt it'll let you pull off a smash attack, or at least one that's charged. I would assume the effect will be enough for a tilt or grab which is good enough. Anything more might be OP, but I wouldn't complain!

- Double Disable could be good for distancing at high percentages on 1 vs 1 and crowd control in 1 vs 2+ battles. Disable from the back could be given insta-knockback, which would be great. And air Disable having Zamus paralyzer? I'd welcome that. A knockback/thrust would be cool too.

- I'm just wondering, for instances like Shulk's shield monado arts, if those characters would be more resistant. I guess that would be hard to find out.

From what I heard Ridley got a stupidly high amount of votes regardless, if the original doesn't become DLC Ridley could be taken in consideration next time
They could do the Spirit Tracks thing where if Ridley is playing on Pyrosphere he just won't show up.

About Ridely, you guys do know Nintendo showed a picture of all the characters that are Assist Trophies/Stage Hazards and said there was no chance of them getting in (Including Nabbit, Shadow, and out course, Ridely)

Looks like another 8 years of hoping for you guys...
If Sakurai did include Ridley, it wouldn't be the first time he flat-out lied to us, but in a good way.

"Melee is the last game."
"Brawl is the last game."
"Mewtwo is testing the waters for DLC."
"Villager's image would be ruined if he got into Smash."
"Miis wouldn't fit into the Smash universe."
"Zero Suit Samus got cut this time around."

Sakurai must have this big pot of lies lying around, and sometimes he'll pick one out and say "LOL, let's troll my fans with this to get them down in the dumps before I let their spirits soar." Seriously, Sakurai, would it kill you to skip the lying part and get straight to the good part:p?

Fixed.

If a 14 year old can make a functioning mod for Project M with limited resources and a small team then a large group of professionals shouldn't have a problem.
The definition of dragon in the Pokemon world is a bit strange.
We've seen dragon masters Lance and Iris use Aerodactyl, Charizard, Gyarados, Aggron, Archeops, and Lapras.

I like to think of Charizard as a dragon, even if it's not technically a dragon type.

Hey, it's hard to tell what's going on in that man's mind.
Maybe with the DLC, he only planned on Mewtwo, but Iwata or someone said "Nope, Smash has too much potential, so you're doing more then just this". Or, alternatively, it could of just been his way of making Lucas an even more special surprise for his fans.
For characters, I think that's generally his initial justification to appease his fans. I generally see his excuses as "this is why making this character would be difficult/not our first priority" as opposed to "this is why they'll never get in".

Uh I can explain this.

  • Melee was the last game he wanted to make.
  • He was roped into making Brawl/Smash 4.
  • Mewtwo was supposed to pave the way for more DLC but someone at Nintendo (no names) thought it was a good idea to start putting more DLC in.
  • He said earlier that villager was supposed to be in Brawl. /shrugs
  • Miis never did fit into the smash universe, blame Iwata.
  • ZSS was originally going to be cut so they could add more characters.
That's everything.

He said Villager wouldn't fit after Brawl's release and Brawl was announced without Sakurai knowing it was in the works, source needed for ZSS

Fair points. I'm interested to see the utility has in this game. It was so completely, fundamentally flawed in Melee, and it's not a big deal if it is a lackluster option considering Mewtwo's other moves, but it has interesting potential. If it works consistently, it could end up being a great way to "catch your breath", forcing the battle to stop briefly and putting you in an advantageous position for the next move. Potentially great for getting pushy opponents out of your face, interrupting the flow, or setting up a combo, string, or grab.

I'm still most interested for the various applications of the improved Confusion. Teleport is gonna be great and Shadow Ball is a solid projectile. Any positive changes to the A game are also welcome.

I want some cool combos with down throw. Down throw to confusion to dair spike would be pretty sweet.

They do have properties for real world dragons but its more of a joke I have in terms of people (and Iris) mistaking Charizard for being a dragon type.
Then Charizard X happened.

And I didn't say the second part you've quoted.

Or... They include a revamped NES Ridley in order to distinguish from Stage Boss Ridley. Yet another reason as to why Revamped NES Ridley is the way to go:p!

It's best not to over think what Sakurai says. People tend to over-analyze things, misinterperet things, mess things up translations, and take things out of context. It doesn't help that Sakurai also has a bit of a habit of changing his mind.

Take everything that man says with a grain of salt, and never assume he means exactly what you think he means.

I much prefer Super Metroid Boxart Ridley with the Purple colour scheme instead of Red.
Revamped NES Ridley is technically ZM Ridley.

Seeing as how everyone in this thread probably has more personal experience with Mewtwo than I do, when Confusion actually did work as a command-grab in Melee, what were Mewtwo's options after holding the opponent?

I could be wrong on this, but I'm fairly certain that Ridley only appears to be smaller because he's further away from the 4th wall than Samus. I think if the box art was done differently, with Ridley the same distance away from the 4th wall as Samus, then it would be more obvious that he's supposed larger.

Purple Aerodactyl with high-tech armor and an army of space pirates for Smash.

His Final Smash can be Meta-Evolution.

F-tilt that's about it. Cause they can tech it, so unless you wanna go for a tech chase afterwards....

So I was wondering...
In comparison to Lucario's Aura Sphere at minimum and maximum strength- how would Mewtwo's Shadow Ball (fully charged) compare?

How it was in Melee minus the zig-zag.
That knockback on a fully charged Shadow Ball was great.

I'd say that Shadow Ball's power should do ~5% than a fully charged Aura Sphere, and that it should do substantially more knockback.

Charizard will always be a dragon in my heart no matter what anyone else says. He's a fire breathing flying lizard... he's a dragon. Yeah, yeah no dragon type... doesn't mean Horsea isn't a seahose because it doesn't have the seahorse type. :p Charizard's design is pretty much 100% based off a dragon, so he's a dragon. Typing doesn't mean everything. :smirk:

aww it just goes straight now? That's lame.
Nah, its still got the zig-zag pattern. It's just a little less drastic now. I personally thought that the erratic path of Shadow Ball was one of the coolest things about in Melee, and I'm really glad to see it return in Smash 4, even if it's a little less crazy.
