After going to West Coast Smash League, its obvious that cali is better than tx. PART of why they are better is that they are divided. North and south. I believe that this kind of rivalry is GOOD(if done right) and WILL make texas AS A WHOLE much better than we are now. It builds a rivalry that MAKES you wanna go to an event to beat some one! it also brings out bigger numbers because people know that they gotta rep there side. Trust me, this is very healthy for out state. Being divided as just cities obviously hasnt got us as far as i thought....but if we combine to where its just 2 sides, i think things will improve.

HOWEVER!!!

We need to figure some things.

1. North vs South? East vs West? what do we call each other? Ea-Tex? Wes-Tex? NoTex? SoTex?

2. Whos on Whos team? Is it fair? Do the teams need to be fair? What about the people who dont travel OOC?

3. We all need to travel to each others events(houston needs to mainly).

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

PS: mods, plz dont close this. This really is better for the state and it involves ALL the major cities of tx so plz let this thread stay alive for a week...PLEASE!!!

Certainly, there's nothing to lose from this, and the fact that Texas gets two representations, who are competing against each other, is a good thing.

Also, splitting it north-south seems easiest, and "NoTex" and "SoTex" sound pretty cool.

what would be the line that determines south from north? is houston south?,,,ive always thought of houston being east tex...maybe east tx and west tx would be the better way to divide it

I'm down...since everyone south of texas doesn't come up north anyways. Nothing will change, simply making a large state more like the others. It just so happens that many good players come from TX. It's also hard for us to develop an accurate Power Rankings list due to the separation. By creating a split...the list would be "easier" to define. I see some pros and almost zero negatives for doing so. Again, I'm down.

This sounds like a great idea. Not only that, but we can do SoTex and NoTex PR like they do in California. Everyone up north knows who belongs where because of all the tourneys we create and attend. I'm sure SoTex can say the same thing.

Good idea imo

What would North and South Texas consist of. Like, city-wise, how would that be split up since alot of the playing cities are either at the center of the cut, a little north of the cut, or in the south.

North: San Angelo, Dallas, Waco

South: Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Beaumont

East: Houston, Dallas, Beaumont

West: San Angelo, San Antonio, Waco, Austin

I did this by considering Waco as a center. (North gets Waco and cities North of Waco, South gets cities South of Waco.) (West gets Waco and cities West of Waco, East gets cities East of Waco)

Edit: North vs South is more even.

San Antonio is about central as you can get.
San Antonio is central in relationship to Texas as a State, however Waco is more central to the Cities in Texas. If we use San Antonio as the center, then it would be horrible skewed for some sides Since San Antonio is in the southern part and on the eastern part. There would be 5 cities on one side and 2 on the other lol. Not an even rivalry IMO.

Lol dude we'd get owned on West vs East. Our top players consist of you, Hyli, Santi, and I. The rest, although good players, aren't on the level that we're on.

That'd give them the 2 biggest smash scenes. XD

Just went over it, compared PR spots and crunched some numbers. North vs South is much more even. PR spot average for North is 7.13539472, for the South it is 7.45056385. East it was like 6.8471034 and West was 8.2946137 lol.

So South vs North is more even.

Also, do not worry about how I achieved my numbers, my math is not done with mere symbols waiting to be given worth or reason. :)

Bam!

But I'm confused. West had it better or worse?

EDIT: Kown, you'll rep College Station from that point on. You'll still be Sotex though.

so what happens when ppl go to college? do they still rep their hometown?
Indeed, yes unless there is a sudden burst of new talent in a particular region that skews things too much (Like if 10 Waco players came outta nowhere that were as good as me and got all 10 top spots at HOBO lol)

E/W=not even. N/S=very even.

Regarding rep based on schools. Hometown is where it's at.

West had it worse, the higher the number the lower of an average PR list spot you had. For example, 6 means the average PR spot is 6 for that region, while 8 means the average is 8. So lower is better basically.

Ok I thought so.

IMO

1. North vs South? East vs West? what do we call each other? Ea-Tex? Wes-Tex? NoTex? SoTex?
It should be North vs South. It's much more balanced in terms with what DMG made the boundary lines which seems to be accurate and what most people have already agreed on, to an extent.

2. Whos on Whos team? Is it fair? Do the teams need to be fair? What about the people who dont travel OOC?
According to DMG's boundary lines, if it was to be NvS: Dallas, Waco, San Angelo, and Anything Northwestern from there is Nortex. That makes Austin, San Antonio, Houston, CS, and Beaumont, the Valley and anything else south of there, part of Sotex. Although the cities are much more inclined to the South, that's life. We need to encourage people to travel OOC more. Set up carpools. Everybody needs to hype up tourneys more.

3. We all need to travel to each others events(houston needs to mainly).
Exactly, the state as a whole needs to travel more. Now that's hard when this state is so ****ing geographically big. We need to hype up tourneys more in different locations, ie. Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, San Angelo, etc. The more we hype these up, the more people show, and thus encourage more to come from all over, etc. We need to promote more than one big tourney a month. Cali and other places have tournaments almost every week. I understand we can't do that thanks to the size of Texas, but we can step it up. And we're going to have to, so we can be better competitors.

Great Idea. Im down to smash anyone. Question if we divide everyone up like into coasts are there going to be tournament leaders assigned to that area that will run tournaments every week to get there coast better or will everyone just have random smash fests like they have been having now to get better. I think there needs to be more tournament leaders in all areas in texas and the tournament leaders comes to huge tournaments and brings the players hes been training with. 1 HUGE texas tournament to get Texas better. However many coasts there are there should be leaders assigned to them.

I'm all for SoTex vs. NoTex, nothing better than a bit of fresh and fun competition for everyone, as we kinda sorta need it.

Are we going to have our first 10 v 10 South vs. North match at FS5?

This is probably the stupidest thing i have heard of doing >_>

Im betting the only reason there is a SoCal and NorCal is because the **** state is so long.

We are doing fine divided up into Cities for the reason that we are all competitive and already have a rivalry with one another.

I do not think separating us into two regions is going to do anything.

buttttttt most likely Allan is referring to Brawl

sooo

Dividing is ridiculous anyway. First things first, Beaumont is everyone's enemy, (Except Nola and Thibideaux) so there's not even a reason to divide it. California is soooo long, so it's far easier to divide. If we're competitive as separate cities it'll be alot better.

It's not long though, and you have to look at smash. There is still Corpus and places like that. Texas expands farther than San Antonio.

In what way will dividing texas into north and south HURT anything? lets TRY it at least. fs5 crew battle should be the beginning of the rivalry.
