I honestly don't know. I mean, that could have been Nintendo's criteria when they picked the DLC options to give to Sakurai to make the final decision on which 5 got in, but its also just speculation. My opinion is that Nintendo looked at a mixture of A) who was popular in the Fighter Ballot and B) what have been insanely popular releases in the last couple years.
Joker fits an insanely popular game worldwide (I mean, it directly competed with Nintendo's own Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey for Game of the Year on various Game Awards in Magazines and Online). I also wouldn't be surprised if there were a lot of Persona requests on the Fighter Ballot due to Persona 4 being very popular and Japan having multiple Persona 3 movies in Theaters the last few years.
We all know Banjo was a popular request worldwide.
And do I need to say how popular Dragon Quest is in Japan? Dragon Quest XI likely did very well in Japan and various Dragon Quest characters likely did well in the Fighter Ballot.
I mean, never say never, we did get Cloud, Joker, and Banjo, but it seems less likely for Sakurai to pick two Western characters when there are various characters that are more popular/Japanese (Sakurai likes to meet with and communicate with the creator of the characters included in Smash, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Party and its easier to meet someone in your own country that speaks your own language). The only character I could honestly see them going through that hassle for is Crash Bandicoot since he was insanely popular in both the West and Japan..which I say as someone who doesn't really care about Crash Bandicoot.
I, personally, feel that the 3 most likely characters are Sora, Crash, and Heihachi or Lloyd Irving (or another Tales character).

I don’t know where Sora came from. But Crash and another Namco character (Tekken, Tales, Dark Souls, and Digimon being the standout contenders) have been my predictions sense before E3. And I did correctly predict Hero and Banjo (I was saying a bunch of other DQ heroes as Erdrick alts and everyone was like “nah, it’ll just be the one”), plus that they would be revealed together to balance out the east vs West hype so....

If I am right about the last two I should win something.

Can't imagine what it's like to eat salt straight up, but I have randomly eaten slices of American cheese because I thought it would taste good. It did, but it wasn't a good lunch lol.

american cheese is only good if cheese needs to be melted for something, because most other cheeses can't do that **** unless it's also processed like the standard american dairy from wisconsin. makes you remember that cheese is the only reason people remember wisconsin exists.

think about it for a second, do you genuinely know one person from wisconsin?

Hard to say, Arthur has range but moves clunkier and dies in two hits. While the Belmonts have better stamina and a versatile weapon in the shape of the whip and can perform a variety of moves with it. As long as Simon can get close he wins.

Okay. I buy the versatile weapons. But doesn’t Simon die in one hit in Castlevania? Also, both of them take multiple hits to Finnish off in other titles like MvC and Smash.

If you're gonna bring other guys, I dare say Alucard, Death, Dracula, Soma Cruz and so many other characters could beat the GnG cast.

I really liked Chief Thunder more, both his old-school and new design. I imagine Nightwolf will change too, so hopefully his re-design will be sick.

The conversations reveal that Nightwolf is a title that gets passed from generation to generation once a predecessor retires.

I’m willing to throw in a bone that Nightwolf could have two variations of two different characters, one being a “present” Nightwolf and the other being the “past” Nightwolf (the one we’ve seen from MK3-MKX). A bit of wishful thinking, but would go pretty well with the whole past-present thing MK11 is doing by having two different generations take on the name.
