Thing is I'm not inclined to believe him after XY and SM didn't get patched
i definitely remember XY and SM getting patched multiple times. It was mostly bug fixes and small improvements but they did get patches. Now that gamefreak aren't as restricted with patches as they were in the days of the 3DS, i fully expect them to update and fix stuff much more often, including some of the graphical glitches on that tweet (if they aren't fixed by the time the base game is released). that's why i find the idea of delaying the game and throwing the entire schedule into chaos over minor graphical issues dumb but rationality kind of goes out the window when a fanbase is angry.

Can a DQ fan tell me the significance of DQ4?

DQ 3 and 8 I get, 3's Erdrick and arguably the most iconic game in the series and 8's the first big one internationally, but I've always assumed that DQ5 was way more popular, hell, it's the one getting a movie, and it basically started the "Best Girl" wars between Bianca and the rich girl.

Is it cause the DQ5 protag wouldn't fit the Hero's playstyle due to weapon choice?
First game in the Zenithia trilogy, first game (IIRC) to give party members AI controlled tactics, and the first game in the series to put a real focus on its side party members.

On that last note, DQ4 introduces a varied cast of party members that have story chapters dedicated to them. You don't actually start DQ4 as the Hero (besides the intro) and instead play as their allies and learn their stories before the team meet up. A lot of fan favorites ended up debuting in 4.

5 is probably more popular but like you said, it may have come down to weapon choice... as well as some more spoilery factors.

...I might need to try to escape from the Pokemon community for a little bit, all the drama been stressing me out too much.

Don't know if that'll include avoiding this thread or not. This is one of the tamer places but it still constantly reminds me of all the drama happening outside of it.

What a terrible, terrible time to be a pokemon fan. I haven't hated being a part of a fandom this much since the Grinch hoax.

So how is everyone enjoying our newest two additions to the roster so far?

Me I wouldn't care less for Hero but otherwise happy for Dragon Quests supporters.

On the other hand though. I'm greatly enjoying the fact after nearly 20 years of demand and long overdue they are that everyone's favorite bear and bird have finally made the spot!
I'm happy for the fans of those two franchises.

I personally have no real attachments to those two characters myself though so I'm neutral for the most part.

I'm happy that we can finally close that book now and move on though as these debates have been going on for month's or even since the game was revealed as far as Microsoft went.
We also have a more clean slate in regards to the final two characters as they haven't been rumoured by any known insiders yet as far as I know so that's nice.

It's been over 67 hours since the reveal and my brain is still struggling to comprehend that Banjo is in

I still can't wait to try out Erdrick. He seems like a blast to use, and I always liked using technical, non-traditional characters like Inkling, Villager, G&W, Pokemon Trainer. etc.

Banjo seems cool, but not my cup of tea.

I’ve finally gotten to a place where my brain doesn’t automatically think I’m looking at a fake. I’m still so excited to play him. Although the longer wait time for the reveals of 4 and 5 are going to be agonizing.

Also, not gonna be able to post a lot today. Have to go for training at work all day.

I'll be completely honest here. Banjo and Hero don't excite me at all. Like, one bit. I watched my brother play Banjo games like a really long time ago, and sure it was fun to watch, but I never really got into the game, nor the character. Think I only played the little multiplayer minigame, which was fun but I still never really cared for Banjo as a character. Which really means I don't care for him at all in Smash. But I'm not gonna undermine the fact that Banjo was highly requested and that it's definitely a win for his fans, and at least I can be happy for them. Seeing a highly requested character get in is always great.

As for The Hero, I have no experience with Dragon Quest, so I don't really care for them. And tbh it doesn't help that they're swordfighters. Ngl though, the spells look pretty neat.
But yeah, I don't hate any of these inclusions, I'm just like...not interested. But like, I'm not angry or upset, I just hope the next character in the fighter pass might be more interesting to me.

I'm just waiting to play them now before I start getting hyped over them again. That being said, I crack a smile every time I see BK's render.

Probably because a lot of us didn't find their animation to be all that bad in the first place. I recommend this video from New Frame + if you want to see an analysis on it by an actual animator.

And to be fair, that spin off title was one that had 3D animation as its main appeal.
A pretty late reply as I only got around to watching the video just now, but I'm happy that I did it. Towards the end it echoes my sentiment, in fact it's pretty much word for word the thoughts I've had on the current animations, right down to his point that the designs are the only thing that really sell the Pokémon atm. For me it's so important that the Pokémon show personality, it's why I keep bringing Colosseum and Battle Revolution up, because despite some janky animations and models here and there, the games still captivated me with how much personality every Pokémon showed, some of my favorites became such because those games sold me on them.

In Gen 6 the current animations were fine, at the time I think we were all just happy to get a full 3D mainline Pokémon adventure, and I could live with it in S/M as well due to the improvements made in the overworld + system limitations, but with Let's Go I feel like the opportunity was there for the taking to do the first steps with the original 151, and then again with Sw/Sh with the cuts being made, but to my disappointment they've let that opportunity pass them by. I don't expect them to reanimate 900+ Pokémon at once, I'm educated in 3D modelling myself, so I'm not that naive, but I'd have liked to see them do it bit by bit, because as is Pokémon is just not visually impressive, despite how much potential it has on that front.

Honestly, if you offered me a deal where half the Pokémon are cut in favor of improved animations, I'd snap your hand off, it's that important of a long term investment to me (plus I'm not that bothered about the cuts, so I share your frustrations with the community atm).

Been watching Aggretsuko season 2...

Man, Retsuko's mom is very toxic. She's the epitome of helicopter parent.

And that makes her the best antagonist so far, because of how hateable she is, while also being polarizing and a force.

Although I dislike Anai more, for obvious reasons.

DQ5's protag is more characterized as a summoner with a cane rather than the knight with swords and shields. DQ4 is also fairly well received and important, being the first of the Zenithean trilogy. Also known as the trilogy that got DS remakes.

Both Hero and Banjo look fun.

If I had to pick, I'm looking forward to Hero more. They look a fun new take on the typical swordfighter and it's nice to see they decided to go for having multiples protagonists as alts. As for who I'm choosing, I'm probably gonna be picking Erdrick because the leaks and speculation has made me grow to appreciate him and his design.

Banjo's pretty cool too, but I'm more intrigued by the fact that his inclusion opens up to western third party characters which has me pretty excited. Characters like Crash and Doom Slayer don't quite seem like impossibilities anymore.

Annnnnnd this is too good to see.
For those asking, it's Kirhope thanking Sakurai for the opportunity to make music for the game, and in return, Sakurai thank him in return for working with him! In English nonethless.

This is one of the reason I love Smash as a franchise.

Very wholesome.
I’ll just wait for a trailer that starts similar to this:

Or one that begins with Sonic & Mario racing.
If the Crash trailer isn't titled "Plumber Boy's Worst Nightmare" I'll be deeply disappointed.

More Aggretsuko thoughts...

Anai is quickly becoming one of my most hated fictional characters ever.

As cruel as Ton can be, I'm glad he called out Anai in episode 5. Makes him more rootable considering how bratty Anai is.

This question has been asked in every corner of the internet, but now that Cadence of Hyrule has been released, what other indie crossovers would you like to see?

Another cool/wholesome fanart.

You may ask why it's cool/wholesome? Well, as the artstyle show, this was done by none other than Tetsuya Nomura himself.

Even the creator of KH himself as to give his respect to the franchise who codified the JRPG genre.

EDIT: of ****ing course the image uploader crash as I post this.

While I don't care all that much about either character, I do think they look good to play and I'm happy for their supporters.

That and I'm happy to be able to play as Eight again after, like, a decade. DQ8 was the only Dragon Quest I ever played (and I only got about halfway through).

Now can I get Agumon and Crash, please?

A thought I had earlier; is Smash the first time a Dragon Quest hero from a mainline game has been playable in a different game?

I don't think any of the spinoffs let you play as them, Dragon Quest Monsters and Builders have different heroes, and none of the Fortune Street games have the heroes playable (e.g. the DQ8 reps are usually Jessica and Angelo, with Yangus and Trode as well in some of the games).

I puts the general Japanese reactions into perspective if that's the case.
-------------------------------------------------
Hey, @Mythra. I was wondering if you had any artistic updates.
A few of the heroes have been playable in the Fortune Street games that weren't released outside of Japan.

I was wondering this myself.

Maybe Solo (which is apparently 4's name?) is Sakurai's personal favourite or something?
Let's just say that skillwise. While every hero can use a sword, including Madason aka the protagonist of 5, a lot of the heroes don't really have shareable skillset including spells or body type.

With all the **** going on with the Pokemon fanbase, we need more wholesome news like this more than ever.

Also, slighty off-topic, but if you're in search of relaxing musics, this video should help ya with that.

Ok but again, they didn't patch a handful of Z-Moves or Ultra Beasts. If they refused to patch a handful of things, patching in god knows how many they cut isn't going to happen. Masuda can say "It has 1000 pokemon if you include forms!" All he likes but if it turns out Spinda's in the game then they probably meant all of Spinda's unique patterns
