banjo proved you don't need to be the most commercially successful property of your respective third party to get into smash, and frankly i just don't feel like resident evil got anywhere near the same amount of support as wright during the ballot days

To be fair, it's been proven since the Classic series that Eggman is faster than Sonic.

So really, they are just respecting the lore.

It might just be the hype affecting my brain, but I actually think he has a shot.

Professor Layton is what Megaman was for the NES or what Banjo was for the N64. Outside of Dragon Quest 8 (funnily enough also developed by Level-5), the best selling 3rd party DS games were Diabolical Box, Curious Village, and Unwound Future. He has been a powerhouse for Nintendo's portable consoles, and has popularity in both the East and West, and especially Europe. I know Katrielle is currently the protagonist, but the series is still alive and carries his name.

Know what, maybe I won't give up on Layton just yet

Truly, we are the best Sonic fan here, we respect so much the canon, we even apply it to real life.

That's horrible that he'd use her as a club like that!

I mean, birds have hollow bones, so they're light and make for horrible clubs. If Banjo really wanted to do damage he should be swinging around a dog or something instead.

Really hope that isn't the case.

Zelda's frequently been a great character even when she's also a damsel in distress, but I really hope they don't retread that that role this particular time around. Aside from the fact that it'd be a refreshing change of pace, lots of folks have really wanted the chance to play as her in addition to or instead of Link. That too would be awesome.

Id rather it be a choice to pick either link or zelda because I always want to play as link
(Because I've gotten attached to him as a charachter) if I can but I would love for people who want to play as zelda ve able to too seems like a win win to me

Now, here's a legit question I have: Cloud, a character from SE's most popular franchise, only gets 2 songs, a battlefield clone with hazards, a moveset that doesn't really rep FF the best, and no spirits besides himself. Meanwhile, Hero over here, from a game that's not as popular worldwide, gets 4 alt costumes, all who are different characters, a seemingly unique stage, a moveset that does a great job representing DQ, and probably more than 2 songs.

So what changed?

A lot of people don't appreciate the fact that DQ finally is being represented in Smash. DQ practically made the JRPG genre, and a lot of people's favorite games wouldn't be the same without it.

But I guess the Smash community will just see the Hero as another anime swordsman.

Ok. So. Now that we know about and :ultbanjo&kazooie: and their release windows, what does this mean for speculation?

I’m convinced that this means no characters from any first party game Nintendo is releasing till winter. Sword and Sheild MIGHT still be on the table depending on how late into fall Banjo releases. But Fire Emblem, Daemon X Machina, and Astral Chain are definitely off the table. I’m also thinking that this confirms the common belief in an all third-party/all new franchises DLC lineup. My faith is still in Crash and a Dark Souls Character, but Travis Touchdowm looks pretty possible too. Just saying. He’s been a consistent request since Brawl. He’s certainly nowhere near as highly requested as Banjo or Ridley, but is certainly possible.

Doubt it. They'll probably release Banjo around September and then reveal character 4 in the September Direct.
